Keep the receipt, and give an expense a split of its own.
PHOTOS ON TRANSACTIONS
Attach a photo to a transaction: the receipt, an invoice, a warranty. Take it with the camera or pick one from your photos; you both see it, and a camera on the row marks the transactions that have one. Tap it to see it full screen.
A SPLIT FOR EACH EXPENSE
An expense no longer has to follow the month's split. Under "Who paid?", give it its own: 100/0 for something that's yours alone, or anything in between. On a recurring expense it applies every time. The row shows it beside the description, and the balance counts each expense at its own split.
ALSO IN THIS VERSION
- The payment method folds into one line in the editor, and opens when you need it.
- Bug fixes and small improvements.
Both features started as requests of yours. Keep telling us what's missing — we read everything.
4.3.0 10月17日
Search adds things up, and instalments say which one they are.
- Search shows how many transactions it found and what they add up to: expenses and income side by side, to the cent, for every match — not just the ones on screen.
- A transaction from a recurring expense that ends shows which instalment it is on its row: 3/12 is the third of twelve.
- Plus bug fixes and small improvements.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.2.5 10月9日
A round of fixes for categories, reactions, search and signing out.
- New, renamed or deleted categories show up right away, without closing and reopening the app. The same goes for payment methods, the spending limit, the split and the currency.
- Balance no longer refuses to delete a category because it was still counting the old list.
- Reactions show up again for families with lots of expenses: past a certain number, none appeared at all.
- Search shows reactions too, on transactions from any month, and updates as soon as you edit one of its results.
- Signing out works even without a connection.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.2.4 10月7日
A maintenance update: bug fixes and performance improvements, so Balance runs a little smoother.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.2.2 10月3日
A round of fixes, mostly for things you told us about.
Balance no longer gets stuck on the Retry screen when you open it. A check left over from an older version could block the way in even with a working connection; now it stops running once it has done its job.
A profile photo that showed only initials — to you, to your partner, or to both — comes back on its own, and choosing one with a quick double tap no longer trips Balance up.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.2.1 10月2日
Find any expense — and never forget one.
SEARCH YOUR WHOLE HISTORY
Transactions shows one month at a time, so it could never tell you when you last paid the dentist. Search can: type a word from the description, narrow by category, payment method or a range of dates, and every match comes back, newest first. It is in Settings, under Data, and it is free.
A REMINDER TO ADD YOUR EXPENSES
On iPhone and iPad, Balance now reminds you to log what you spent — on Sunday evening, to begin with. Choose the days and the time in Settings, under Reminder, or switch it off. Your partner's notifications also show while Balance is open now.
RECURRING EXPENSES THAT END
A recurring expense can stop on a date, or after a number of times. That is how installments go in: the amount of one, and how many there are.
FILTER BY CATEGORY
Transactions can be narrowed to one or more categories, and to more than one payment method.
SMALL FIXES
While adding an expense, the keypad stays away once you have put it away, and a few messages now say the right thing.
All four of the features above started as requests of yours. Keep telling us what's missing — we read everything.
4.2.0 9月30日
Another small one, behind the scenes: nothing changes on screen.
A few fixes where you won't see them, so Balance keeps running smoothly.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.1.3 9月13日
Fixes — mostly the small ones you meet every day.
AMOUNTS WITH CENTS
The keypad you set a limit with finally has the decimal point, so 12.50 goes in as 12.50. It applies to the monthly limit, to the ones you set per category, and to the one you pick when you first set Balance up.
CATEGORIES
Add income and the category you land on is an income category. Before, you could start on an expense one and only notice afterwards.
THE MONTH YOU LEFT
Step out of Balance and come straight back, and the month you were reading is still there. Stay away longer and it opens on the current month, as it did before.
STABILITY
An expense you had just saved could vanish for a moment before coming back, and a past month could show an error in place of its figures — both fixed. Gone too are the crashes that came from closing a screen while it was still saving.
Thanks for every report — we read all of it.
4.1.1 9月11日
The Overview, your way.
CHOOSE YOUR OVERVIEW
The Overview can now lead with either of two things: the month's spending against your limit, or who spent what between the two of you. Pick whichever matches the way you share your money, from the new button at the top right — and when you turn the shared account on, Balance sets it for you.
WHAT'S LEFT, PER DAY OR PER WEEK
What remains of your monthly limit, read as a pace: how much a day, or how much a week, until the month is over. Daily, weekly or off, in the same menu.
STABILITY AND SPEED
Fixed a freeze that could hit the charts in a month holding only small expenses, crashes around subscriptions and the paywall, and an error that appeared after an expense had in fact been saved. Balance also starts faster, and moving between months is quicker.
Both of the new features above are here because you asked for them. Keep telling us what's missing — we read everything.
4.1.0 8月31日
Balance 4.0.1 — fixes and polish after the 4.0 update.
STABILITY
Fixed the crashes reported since 4.0, from the rating prompt to the end of onboarding, plus a few places where a slow first load could leave the app waiting.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Premium features no longer ask an active subscriber to subscribe again.
PERFORMANCE
Balance starts faster — the type it uses now ships with the app instead of being fetched — and the charts scroll smoothly.
AND A FEW SMALLER THINGS
The amount keypad keeps up with what you type, a profile photo that can't load falls back to your initials, and signing in handles the resend timer properly.
Thanks for every report — we read everything.
4.0.1 8月4日
Balance 4.0 — a whole new Balance.
REDESIGNED, TOP TO BOTTOM
Every screen has been rebuilt around a clearer overview. The new gauge shows at a glance whether your spending is in balance, and who owes who.
REACTIONS
React to any expense with an emoji — a quick way to celebrate, approve or comment on what you spend together.
NOTIFICATIONS
Know the moment your partner adds a transaction or reacts to one of yours.
WIDGETS, EVERYWHERE
The Split gauge and category limits now have widgets of their own, plus Lock Screen widgets and Control Center buttons to add an expense in one tap.
BUILT FOR THE BIG SCREEN
On Mac and iPad, Balance now has a layout of its own: two-column browsing, and a real window instead of a stretched phone.
Tell us what you think — we read everything.
