CalendarMenu is a macOS menu bar application which provides a small calendar showing all informations you need to keep track of all upcoming appointments, birthdays and reminders in the blink of an eye. It is highly configurable and allows you to specify exactly what you want CalendarMenu to show.
It comes with a Widget Extension adding a convenient monthly calendar to your Notification Center, showing markers to keep close tabs on all your upcoming appointments, reminders and birthdays.
There is another list widget available on macOS Mojave and earlier earlier showing all your upcoming events (today and tomorrow) or reminders.
Calendar features:
• shows all iCal calendar events
• calendars can be selected individually
• highlights birthdays read directly from macOS Contacts (Address Book)
• differentiates between normal and all-day events
• individually highlights events spanning multiple days
• can individually hide normal events and/or events spanning multiple days
• provides daily and weekly overviews showing all calendar events and reminders (with due date) of the selected day or week
• shows calendar weeks and first weekday according to your current system configuration
Reminders features:
• reminders with a due date set are highlighted in the calendar
• allows to quickly mark reminders as finished or pending without leaving CalendarMenu
• you can individually (de)select reminder lists
• reminders can be sorted by their title, by due date, priority or calendar name (either ascending or descending)
• reminders without due date can be hidden
• reminders listed on the main window can be limited to a due date within the next X days
If you should find a bug in this app, please drop me an email (the address is to be found on my website) so I can fix it as soon as possible. Thank you!
Please note: the update frequency of WidgetKit extensions (those available on macOS Big Sur and later) depends solely on update slots assigned to it by the operating system, which in turn takes into account how regularly a widget is being shown. It will increase significantly if the main app is running in the background, so this is highly recommended - albeit not necessary.

The best menu bar calendar app I ever used, small but with all necessary functions, great job!
This update should hopefully fix the menu bar popover's misplacement issue on several macOS Tahoe installations and multi-display setups for good. I've ended up completely rewriting the respective piece of code, so it should now work as expected, regardless of the system settings in terms of menu bar and dock auto-hiding or display alignments in multi-display setups. Sorry about this, and that it took me so long to finally being able to solve this issue.

Bugfixes
4.1.9 2025/10/10
This updated fixes several UI-related glitches.
4.1.8 2025/09/24
This update fixes a few minor UI-related glitches, which have really gotten on my nerves lately. Albeit being totally uncritical.
For example: a Reminder's note containing just plain text was sometimes being percent-escaped, just as if it were an URL. And the "All" Contact groups containing all contacts of a specific comtact container are now being capitalized just like in the macOS Contacts app.
4.1.7 2025/03/25
Adds an option to hide markers for overdue reminders
4.1.6 2024/11/18
This update fixes an error which sometimes caused the weekday of the first day of month to be wrong on macOS Sequoia (starting 1 October 2024). This in turn caused a host of other subsequent errors and sometimes totally messed up the monthly calendar overview. Sorry for that!
And it fixes several other minor glitches, most of them UI related.
4.1.5 2024/10/07
Removed the timezone inside event detail popovers. It could be highly misleading, particularly for calendars using different timezones.
4.1.4 2024/07/24
A mere maintenance update; minor bugfixes, code cleanup, that sort of thing.
4.1.3 2024/06/04
This update fixes several performance and stability issues when changing a reminder's priority or assigning a calendar event/reminder to another calendar/reminder list. It also fixes several other minor UI glitches on macOS Sonoma and adds an "All contacts" group to each contact account for filtering birthdays, replacing the old "invert filter" option. And the contact groups listed in here should now be properly grouped according to their contact account. And this update should finally fix the "launch at login" checkbox on macOS Ventura and later as well.
4.1.2 2024/04/30
Fixes a layout glitch of the birthday marker color picker in the preferences window
4.1.1 2024/04/26
This update fixes several minor issues, implements a few improvements and allows you to maintain a separate list of calendars used for the "upcoming events" list of the menu bar popover.
4.1.0 2024/04/26
This update fixes several minor issues, among them one which prevented a birthday's contact photo from being shown in event lists. Beside that, the event list popover which is being shown when selecting a day or week from the Widget extension is now placed properly on the main panel's monthly overview next to the selected day or calendar week.
Merry Christmas y'all, shana tova, and a happy new year!
4.0.21 2023/12/21
This maintenance update fixes several minor glitches
4.0.20 2023/12/17
The WidgetKit extension (the one available on macOS Big Sur and later) should now be able to update itself. However the update frequency of this kind of widget depends solely on update slots assigned to it by the operating system, which in turn takes into account how regularly a widget is being shown. It will increase significantly if the main app is running in the background, so this is highly recommended - albeit not necessary.
Besides that, past events in the upcoming events list are now grayed out so you can spot them at a glance.
And I've fixed a couple of other, minor issues. Nothing serious though, more like code maintenance.
4.0.19 2023/11/20
This update should fix an issue which sometimes caused the App not to prompt for access permissions on macOS Sonoma, which in turn prevented the app from showing any calendar events and reminders.
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.18 2023/11/07
This update fixes an issue that caused the status bar popover to sometimes lose its focus on appearance when another window such as the Preferences window is being shown at the same time.
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.16 2023/07/20
This update fixes a layout issue of event and reminder popovers with very long notes texts
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.15 2023/06/14
This update fixes a sometimes broken info popover of events and reminders with location-based alarms
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.14 2023/06/12
The upcoming event list's contextual menu was missing several list-specific configuration entries
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.13 2023/03/19
Fixes another possible crash on macOS 10.15 when the system is configured to automatically change its appearance
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.12 2023/02/20
The widget extension (the one available on macOS 11 and later) has gotten yet another configuration option to hide all kinds of event markers in there. This comes in particularly handy for calendars overloaded with event markers due to their sheer number.
And several other glitches have been fixed which apparently passed me by in the previous update.
Please note: the Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later still requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated properly, since these kinds of widgets aren't technically able to update themselves all on their own.
4.0.11 2023/02/13
Improvements:
⁃ The calendar group selection for showing birthdays and anniversaries now shows different address book containers as well
⁃ Several minor UI-related improvements
- The contextual menu of list views has gotten a few additional entries
Bugfixes:
⁃ fixed opening calendar events and reminders in their respective system app
⁃ the status bar panel sometimes showed a wrong year in January for system regions using the ISO 8601 calendar
⁃ the app's status bar item now uses the correct appearance (Dark/Light) matching the current desktop wallpaper (macOS 11.0 or later)
⁃ deselected checkboxes of the calendar and reminder list "View" settings were hardly visible on newer macOS versions
⁃ on macOS Catalina and earlier the reminder markers were sometimes missing and only shown after clicking into the calendar view
⁃ reduced background CPU load a bit, notably on older Macs
⁃ ditched the bugging "app rating" reminder inside the list views for good, seems it sometimes still showed up way more often than intended. Sorry about that…
⁃ fixes several other minor UI glitches
⁃ code cleanup and a few internal optimizations
Please note:
- You may have to reselect a previously selected contact group used for showing birthdays and other reminders
- the new Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated since it isn’t able to update itself on its own by design.

fixes an issue with the about and preferences windows on macOS High Sierra (Version 10.13)
Please note: the new Widget Extension on macOS Big Sur and later requires the main app (the one residing in the menu bar) to be running in order to be updated since it isn’t able to update itself on its own by design.
4.0.9 2022/01/05
