Pico now talks you through every lesson.
• Every level is introduced by Pico: he says the title, then explains it in a few simple words. Lessons are now written the way a teacher would say them.
• New: learn to read note lengths. A new lesson shows whole, half, quarter and eighth notes, and you can hear each one while you count along.
• New: nine short reading etudes to practise note values and rests. You can listen to each one, then play it.
• Every chord and chord progression now tells you how it feels, for example happy, sad or dreamy, and Pico shows the mood on his face.
• Beginners can now start with chords, songs, melodies and strumming whichever guitar they play.
• Back and next buttons moved onto the lesson card, where they are easier to reach.
• A smoother iPad layout, with more space and larger text.
• Smoother page transitions, and many small fixes.

New: the AR Practice Room
Learn chords and notes by playing a game in your own room. Open the new "AR Practice Room" chip, move your phone around, and diagrams float in the air around you. Aim at one, pick its name, and beat the clock.
• Chords: 10 levels, from the open majors to every chord in the library
• Notes on the staff: 11 levels that follow the order of the lessons, from the top strings to sharps, flats and the high frets
• Win a level to unlock the next, and earn points and up to three stars
• After every right answer you see where the note lives on the neck, and you hear it
• New in onboarding: choose the AR Practice Room as your starting point
No table or floor needed, and nothing leaves your phone. Needs an iPhone or iPad with a camera.
Thanks for practicing with us!
8.7 10月5日
Slow it down until you can see it
Every demo video now has a speed control: quarter, half, three-quarter, one-and-a-half or double speed. The pitch stays where it was played, so a clip at half speed is still in tune to play along with — watch which finger moves first, then bring it back up to tempo.
Demos on far more lessons
Around forty new clips, filmed close up: the classical right hand through the planted rolls, the fretting hand through the awkward pairs and its first scales, and the speed bursts. On electric, alternate picking now runs into the Giuliani arpeggios, with more speed bursts, scales and advanced studies. Guitar Basics gains chords through the sevenths, ten melodies and the strumming patterns behind real songs.
Shorter sessions, better spent
Every level on the fretting-hand and speed ladders is now two exercises rather than three. A hand held at tempo tightens by the third study, and nothing is dropped — the rest simply start the next level.
Also in this release
• The classical scale burst now sits in IV–V position, with the fingering written in
• A corrected up-strum in the Tresillo pattern
• Fixes to a rhythm glitch and an audio crackle
• Various refinements
8.6 9月30日
Watch it, then play it
Short demo videos now open the first levels of every chip, on both paths: right hand, left hand and speed on classical; alternate picking, speed bursts, scales and advanced studies on electric. Watch the drill played close up, then play it yourself — no guessing what it is supposed to look like.
Your practice on the Home Screen
A new widget shows your streak and your next exercise, one tap away. Home Screen or Lock Screen, in every size.
The left hand, rebuilt
Finger independence now runs the way a teacher teaches it: one finger at a time — first the index, then the middle, then the ring, then the little finger — and only once all four can work alone do two move together. Every study also names its position on the neck, so your hand starts at the right fret every time.
Also in this release
• Shorter electric sessions: two exercises per level, so your picking hand stays loose
• Clearer session screens, so your attention stays on your hands
• Various fixes and refinements
8.5 9月23日
Play from the first minute
Your first practice session opens straight away, built around the technique you want to improve. No searching, no setting up. Just pick up your guitar and play.
Start where you really are
Beginner, intermediate or advanced: on the Classical and Electric paths you now start on level 1, 2 or 3, so your very first session gives your hands something worth working on. The earlier levels are always there when you want to go back to the basics.
More focus, less clutter
• A simpler path that takes you straight to your next exercise
• Cleaner session screens, so your attention stays on your hands, your timing and your tone
Also in this release
• Various fixes and refinements
8.4 9月14日
Teach with PracticeOS
Teachers now have their own mode, and it's free. Mark yourself as a teacher, share your one join code, and your students appear on a dashboard where you can see what they've practised and set them work.
Assignments arrive as ordinary practice blocks in the student's routine, same timer, same streak, same history. There's no separate homework screen to remember to open.
Chords on Apple Watch
Chord shapes now play on the watch, with sound. Handy for running changes when your phone isn't to hand.
More to play
• New chord families: flamenco voicings, three-string shapes, open E-minor forms, and drone chords across several keys
• More chord progressions, and a redesigned progression screen with playback
• More strumming patterns and classical arpeggios
Clearer about what you're paying for
The subscription screen now lists exactly what unlocks, counted from the libraries themselves — how many chords, scales, progressions, songs and filmed lessons you actually get.
Smoother playback
Scales, chords, arpeggios and progressions start faster and hold up better through long practice sessions.
Also in this release
• The beginner levels are separated more clearly, so it's obvious where one finishes and the next starts
• Various fixes and refinements throughout
8.3 9月10日
Every path now opens on the scale circle: one screen that shows what an interval really is, with the octave drawn as a shape you can hear.
Twenty new scales from around the world. Persian dastgāh (Māhur, Shur, Chahārgāh, Homāyun), maqamat from the Arab world and Turkey, ragas, Chinese court tuning, Japanese, Korean and Thai scales, the five equal steps of Uganda, Ethiopian tizita and the mode of Brazilian forró. Each one says where it comes from, plays once, and loops only when you ask it to.
Seven studies for the right hand trill. Two strings a whole step apart, the left hand holding one note, and only the plucking fingers to move between them. Four new levels close the Right Hand path with them.
Chords are taught differently now. One shape, then the next, then the change between them, and every stage ends on a move out of the family, so what you have just learned connects to what you already own.
Theory and ear training come in small pieces. Two intervals, then a quiz on exactly those two. The same for chord colours and for the written lessons, with review levels where it all comes back together.
Practice reminders now open the exercise they name.
8.2 9月1日
Practise one thing at a time.
• NEW, Focus tracks on your path. Right Hand, Left Hand, Speed and Accuracy for
classical guitar; Alt. Picking, Speed Burst, Scales and Advanced for electric.
Each level is one short session of three exercises, in a teaching order rather
than a list.
• NEW, Run a whole level as a timed session. The app holds the clock: exercise,
rest, next. The tempo it asks for rises as you climb the ladder.
• NEW, Planting. The right-hand preparation studies, where the finger is already
on the string before it plays.
• NEW, Paco. A burst drill that gets longer instead of faster.
• More melodies to play, including Handel's Passacaglia, Chopin's Nocturne and the
Presto from the Moonlight Sonata, each with the composer's portrait on the card.
• The Chords journey now hands you every shape the progression at the end of a
stage needs, so nothing turns up unannounced.
• Songs now open with reading a chord grid, then Brown Eyed Girl: three shapes,
one song.
• Sight Reading is simpler, one note at a time, and it listens more carefully. A
correct note is no longer marked wrong because it was judged at the pluck rather
than at the note.
• Fixes: the microphone no longer sleeps through a listening exercise, long
melodies fit the screen again, and every arpeggio shows its p-i-m-a fingering.
8.1 8月25日
PracticeOS is still built for classical guitar technique, and now it has a clear path for anyone starting from zero.
GUITAR BASICS: A JOURNEY, NOT A LIBRARY
One card at a time: the chord, the change between chords, the strum, then the song. Every step tells you why you're practising it.
Four ways through — pick the one you came for:
• Songs — learn songs people recognise, one at a time
• Chords — shapes by family, and the changes between them
• Melodies — read the tab, then play the whole tune
• Technique — scales, picking and legato, with no song to hide behind
START FROM ZERO
Two interactive first lessons: how to read tab, and how to read a chord diagram. Tap each string, name each finger, then play it — nothing moves on until you can.
THE APP LISTENS
Chord changes are counted by the microphone while you play, so you can watch your hands instead of tapping a button. Play a chord and the app tells you whether every note is ringing.
PLAY ALONG & RECORD
The notes fall to the strings while the front camera films you. Count-in, full screen, and a video ready to share.
CLASSICAL GUITAR
Right hand, arpeggios, tremolo, slurs, rasgueados, campanella, interval studies, sight reading and speed work — all unchanged, and still the heart of the app.
ALSO
• The first three stages of every track are free
• Tab now stays on screen while a lesson plays
• Fixed: a melody now keeps perfect time from the very first play-through
8.0 8月18日
Sight Reading now reads music, not just notes.
NEW: One bar at a time. Instead of a single note, read a full bar of 4/4 straight through, quarter notes, eighths, or both in the same bar. The whole bar stays on screen, so you can look ahead the way real reading works.
• 10 graded stages, from open-position naturals with the fingering shown all the way to seventh position in mixed rhythms. Your practice path opens the stage that matches your level.
• Better listening. Note detection now follows a melody played smoothly instead of waiting for a hard pluck, and it no longer judges a new note using the pitch of the one before it.
• Set it to move on by itself after two wrong tries, so a note the microphone won't accept can't stall the bar.
A cleaner screen for every exercise.
• Classical, acoustic and electric exercises now share one layout: the music first, then the transport, then everything else.
• Press play and the page clears — just the notes and the stop button.
• Tab, fretboard, details and the written notes now start closed. Open only what you need.
• The same hexagon play button and tempo control on every screen.
Practice path
• Legato — hammer-ons and pull-offs — is now part of the path, graded across the levels.
• Sight Reading now appears at every level, from step 1 to step 10.
• Every exercise can be added to your practice list, and every practice block links back to the lesson it came from.
Notation
• Whole notes are drawn the way they are printed.
• A sharp or flat now carries through the bar, and a natural sign cancels it.
• Two-bar studies are laid out on two lines instead of scrolling sideways.
7.9 8月15日
Your daily routine is here.
Open the app and you get three exercises picked for today, one for each
hand, so nothing gets neglected. Add up to two more of your own, mark them
done when you've practised, and watch your week fill in.
NEW SECTIONS
• Rasgueados, the flamenco roll, from the four-finger throw to the
six-stroke roll, each with its own finger-order variations
• Finger Independence, 16 left-hand studies that plant most of the hand
and free one or two fingers to work alone
• Right-Hand Velocity, written-out speed bursts where the burst grows
bar by bar
CLEARER PRACTICE PATH
Exercises are now grouped by the hand they train and labelled with the
technique they belong to, so you always know what you're looking at and why.
FASTER
Standard notation now draws dramatically faster on long exercises —
scrolling and playback stay smooth even at high tempos.
Plus: every advanced study renamed to say what it actually does, and moved
into the section it belongs to.
7.8 8月12日
Classical guitar
• Campanella scales: laid out so no two consecutive notes share a string, letting
the whole scale ring together like a chord instead of a line.
• Interval training: Tárrega's chromatic octaves plus thirds through every major
key, with two-voice notation and a fretboard diagram.
More to play
• New scales, chord progressions, melodies and rhythms.
• add9 and open-voiced chord shapes.
• Improvisation over backing loops, now with strumming patterns.
Practice path
• Every exercise now shows its position in its section (3/24), so you can see
where you are and how much is still ahead.
Design
• Playback, loop and tempo controls redrawn in the app's honeycomb shape.
Account & subscription
• 7-day free trial.
• Account deletion now available in-app under Profile › Account.
Plus a number of smaller fixes and refinements.
7.7 8月6日
Version 7.6 introduces the Path, the simplest possible answer to "what should I practise today?"
YOUR PATH, TEN LEVELS
Pick a level from 1 to 10 and get the exercises that belong to it. Nothing else, nothing to wade through. The level you chose when you signed up is already selected, so the right material is waiting the moment you open the app.
A REAL COURSE, NOT A SHUFFLE
The ten levels add up. Work through them and you will have been taken through every chord, every melody, every chord progression and every strumming pattern in the app — each one exactly once, in an order that makes sense.
Classical players cover every Giuliani arpeggio study, the tremolo patterns, the scales and all the filmed technique lessons before level 7 — then it turns to speed work and concert-level studies. Electric players cover every alternate-picking study and the scales, then move on to speed bursts and advanced drills.
ONE LESSON AT A TIME
Levels no longer hand you a whole section and wish you luck. Level 1 names the two things to read: Reading Chords, and The Musical Alphabet. All seven guitar fundamentals are covered by level 4 and all eight theory lessons by level 6, so the explaining is finished before the material gets hard. The theory quiz arrives in the middle, once there is something worth testing.
A FASTER, CALMER APP
The main page used to take several seconds to appear. It now builds only what it needs, when it needs it, and tells you where it has got to while it works. Picking a level or a section has a proper click to it.
ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• Onboarding rebuilt around the honeycomb, instrument, level and focus as tiles
• Five free Speed Burst exercises instead of one
• The bottom bar stays out of your way until you reach the end of a page
• Artwork on every practice card
• Smaller, faster app, plus the usual fixes and polish
7.6 7月30日
What's New
More accurate notation, so what you read is what you play.
Smarter time signatures: the standard notation now matches the actual notes in each pattern. Arpeggios and exercises show their true meter (6/8, 6/16, and more) instead of a one-size-fits-all 4/4.
Scales now open in eighth notes by default, giving you clean, complete bars right away.
Small performance and stability improvements.
Keep practicing. You're getting better.
7.5 7月22日
PracticeOS 7.4 makes your practice system even stronger, whether you're just starting out or working on advanced technique.
New: the Study Lessons hub, your starting point for the fundamentals. Guitar basics, reading music, music theory, and a theory quiz, perfect for beginners who want to understand what they're doing, not just repeat it.
For electric and acoustic guitar players, every exercise shows tabs, instantly readable, immediately playable. For classical guitar, you'll find standard notation with classical p-i-m-a fingering right above the notes, so you learn technique the way it's actually taught.
At the other end of the spectrum: a new auto speed-up feature for advanced exercises. The tempo climbs automatically as you play, so you build real speed under control, without ever getting ahead of yourself. Ideal for anyone working through arpeggios, tremolo, and demanding speed exercises.
The practice Guide has been completely redesigned: a clear, step-by-step path that adapts as you go and stops showing you what you're already practicing, so you always know what matters most to work on next.
We've also tightened playback timing, so fast passages stay perfectly in rhythm, added an at-a-glance view of which lessons are already in your practice routine, and cleaned up the practice screens throughout.
From your very first chord to the most demanding concert-level etude, PracticeOS 7.4 gives you the material and the tools to actually get better.
