WireView is a menu bar utility that turns your Mac into a screen capture station for your iPhone or iPad. Connect via USB and instantly capture screenshots or screen recordings—no wireless lag, no extra setup.
Built for developers, designers, and support teams who need to capture iOS screens quickly.
- Lightning-fast USB capture with no wireless delays
- Clean recordings with no on-screen indicator—unlike Control Center, capturing from your Mac never bakes a red recording dot into your footage
- Crop to any region before capturing—screenshots and recordings, no post-processing required
- Keyboard shortcuts for every action—keep your hands on the keyboard and your eyes on the prize (retirement)
- Live Text built in—select and copy text straight out of any capture
- Multiple save destinations: clipboard, file browser, or open in any app
- Screen recording with one shortcut—handles rotation and disconnects gracefully, no frames lost
- Support for multiple connected devices
- Keep it running in the background in menu bar mode
- Optional reminder nudges in case you forget about an ongoing recording
PERFECT FOR
- Bug reports and issue tracking
- Design crits and redlines
- App documentation and tutorials
- Customer support screenshots
- App demos and presentations
- Portfolio-ready demo footage and design archives
- Plotting, scheming, and concocting
SIMPLE WORKFLOW
1. Connect your iPhone or iPad via USB
2. Trust your computer if prompted
3. Use ⌘C to copy, ⌘S to save, ⌘R to record, ⌘O to open in Preview
4. Drag to crop any region before capturing—because cropping after is a pain
WireView uses the built-in device mirroring technology—the same system QuickTime Player uses—so your captures are always pixel-perfect.

New in WireView 1.4:
- Device margins: Although not a true device frame, margins give your preview a little breathing room around the edges, with device-specific corner radii where known. Toggle margins from General settings, the View menu, or by clicking the preview. You can now also add a margins toggle through Customize Toolbar.
- Added support for uneven display corners for the iPhone Duo.
- You can choose the preview scale from the menu bar window's toolbar.
Enhanced:
- You can drag snapshots from WireView into even more places, including the terminal (for Codex/Claude Code) and Chromium-based apps.
- Configurable Space bar shortcut: Space toggles device margins by default. In General settings, you can change it to do nothing, copy a screenshot, save a screenshot, show Save As, or start/stop recording.
- Improved cropping: Press K instead of Command-K to toggle crop mode, and Escape to leave it. Drag anywhere along an edge to resize the crop.
- Reorganized settings: Settings have been broken up into tabs, with a shortcut to more settings from the welcome screen.
- Capture metadata: Screenshots and recordings now preserve more capture information, including timestamps and available device details.
- Device responsiveness state is shown in the sidebar. If a connected device goes to sleep or stops responding, a lock icon will appear next to it.
- If you have multiple devices connected when launching WireView, the preview will default to the first device with a responsive connection. This is useful if you have multiple phones connected and one is locked.
Fixed:
- Safer saving: Failed or cancelled saves retain your screenshot or recording so you can retry. Automatic saves avoid overwriting existing files, and saved-folder handling is more reliable.
- Safer quitting: WireView asks what to do with an active capture and waits for saving to finish before quitting. This build also fixes an issue that could leave Quit disabled or leave the app hanging while trying to quit.
- Better recording recovery: Improved recovery of interrupted recordings and completed segments. An optional notification lets you find recovered recordings without automatically opening Finder.
- More reliable recording: Improved handling of rotation, changing capture dimensions, missing frames, audio gaps, and devices disconnecting or switching during a recording.
- More responsive previews: Reduced work during live preview, screenshot capture, cropping, and device switching. Improved recovery when a device’s capture stream stops responding.
- Improved device identification when multiple devices are connected.
- Preview and Live Text fixes: Improved window sizing, crop and text-overlay placement, and handling of late Live Text results after switching devices or dismissing the tool.
- Fixed the “Open in…” application picker appearing empty or failing to open.
- Fixes an issue where the device icons might not reflect the actual device's model.
