Wordbrush: Learn Chinese HSK
教育
免费 · App 内购买 · 专为 iPad 设计。未针对 macOS 验证。
Free, in full. Drill every HSK 1, 2, and 3 word into long-term memory, all 2,199 of them, in frequency order. Natural HD audio for every word and every example sentence, every character decoded by its radicals, scheduled by FSRS spaced repetition. No accounts. No ads. No streak guilt.
Ten minutes a day. Open it, do today's session, close it. Come back tomorrow.
The science wins arguments.
Wordbrush uses FSRS, the modern free spaced repetition scheduler that powers Anki. Cards reappear on the precise day your brain is about to forget them, not before, not after. Failed cards loop back in minutes; mastered cards stretch out for months.
A Chinese flashcard without sound is half broken.
Every word is paired with studio-quality audio rendered by Google's Chirp 3 HD voices. Tones, prosody, register, all there. Every word also gets a hand-curated example sentence in a second voice for context.
Show, don't tell.
Each character is broken down into its radicals, the meaningful sub-components, with pinyin, name, and a one-line note on what they signify. The water radical 氵, the heart radical 心, the woman radical 女. You stop memorizing characters one stroke at a time and start seeing how they're built.
The HSK levels unlock in order.
You start with HSK 1. Once you have introduced every HSK 1 word, HSK 2 unlocks. Then HSK 3. The Statistics screen shows your progress through each level. The scheduler keeps you focused on what's actually in front of you, not what comes next.
What's inside:
• 2,199 words, every HSK 1-3 word, in frequency order
• 4,398 audio recordings (one per word, one per example sentence)
• Five card formats: recognition, listening, and production for every word, plus sentence-building and character-tracing cards
• Hand-curated example sentences for every word
• Character breakdowns by radical, with etymology and position
• Bottom-up unlock so you finish HSK 1 before HSK 2 starts
• A simple home page: a calendar showing your activity, today's count, and a single "begin" button
• iPhone and iPad
• Full VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, and high-contrast support
What it costs:
• Nothing. Wordbrush is free, in full.
• Nothing is locked. No trial to run out, no locked words, no tiers, no add-ons, no ads.
What's not inside:
• No accounts. All your data lives on this device.
• No advertisements.
• No notifications nagging you back.
• No streak shame. Skip a day, the app waits patiently.
• No leaderboards. The only person you're competing with is yesterday's you.
Open the app. Today's session is already cued up. Read or listen to the front of each card, mentally answer, then tap to reveal. Rate it strictly, Again if you missed it, Easy if it was instant. Wordbrush handles the rest.
Built for:
• Adult learners who already know other resources exist for grammar and conversation, and want a tool that does one thing well
• Anyone who's bounced off gamified language apps and wants something that respects their time
• People who appreciate restrained, calligraphic design over neon mascots
Wordbrush is finished. Open it, do today's session, close it. Come back tomorrow.

更多 Lighter days, clearer first steps.
A new "reviews only today" link under begin starts a session with no new words, just the ones due. For the days you want to consolidate rather than grow.
Already know a word? Rate it easy the first time you see it and it leaves without using up your daily new words. The first-run tour says so, and so does the rating bar on your first sessions.
The first listen card in the tour now tells you what to do, and a round of fixes to word parts, glosses and example pinyin lands with this update.
Also fixed: the day's target no longer shrinks as you study.

Your words, finally in view.
A new all words tab in your statistics lists every word you have met, grouped by how well it holds: learning, reviewing, mastered. Search by hanzi, pinyin or English. Tap a word for its full story: every review as a bead on a timeline, bigger beads for longer intervals, so you can see a word climb from shaky to mastered.
The home counts are tappable now, and the day's end screen shows today's words with one clear button to keep going.

The listen card, back the way you know it.
Tap the speaker to hear the word again, tap anywhere else to flip the card. The separate replay button from the last update is gone.
Every screen in the first-run tour stays usable at the largest text sizes, with the main button always in reach.

2.4.5 10月6日
Easier first steps.
On a listen card, one tap now flips the card once the word has played, and a smaller speaker replays it. No more tapping the big button and wondering what comes next.
Every screen in the first-run tour stays usable at the largest text sizes, with the main button always in reach.
A small polish: the learn-more note for 派 now explains its right-hand side in words.

2.4.4 10月3日
A steadier rhythm.
Example sentences, reply cards and tone drills now arrive at a steady pace, at least ten word cards apart, and the first one no longer waits until deep into a session.
Your daily plan is yours to set. It stays at 75 reviews unless you change it in Settings, and anything beyond that counts as extra, never as tomorrow's quota.
Miss a word and it comes back later in the same session, after a short gap, so you get a second try while it's still fresh.
Sessions feel quicker on a big deck: swipes and flips land right away.

2.4.3 10月3日
Example sentences, reply cards and tone drills no longer repeat like flashcards. Each shows at most three times in its life, two weeks apart, and when nothing new is ready that slot goes to your words instead. Word cards keep full spaced repetition.
Finish a day's plan and tomorrow always brings a new word, even with a review backlog.
Settings now shows how many new words a day your pace can sustain, next to the setting.

The back of a word card now fits everything at once, at every text size: the character, pinyin, meaning, the full example sentence with pinyin and translation, and the learn more link.
Long sentences and larger text used to push the translation off the bottom. Now the card tightens its spacing and sizing so nothing is hidden and nothing needs scrolling. Swiping to rate stays exactly the same.

Reply cards that stop repeating, and five times more of them.
The "someone says this, what do you say back" cards have grown from 70 to 348 everyday formulas, each with native-quality audio, and most of them open up early in the course. They also stop cycling: a reply you have already met waits at least a month before it comes back, and no two arrive within twenty cards of each other, so each one lands fresh.

2.3.6 9月18日
Sessions that end cleanly, and words that answer when you tap them.
Tap anywhere around a revealed word to hear it again, not just on the characters. The end of a session no longer flickers before it finishes. Daily targets now measure what you actually study, so heavy days stay humane. And a deep pronunciation audit corrected over sixty cards and sentences where a character was being taught with the wrong reading, like 教 and 长, each with fresh native-quality audio.
One Short a day: youtube.com/@wordbrush.
2.3.5 9月9日
Small words, made exact.
Every number in the app now says 2,199, because that is precisely how many HSK words are inside. The method page now says what it means: grade yourself against the answer without flinching. And the audio is described as what it is: clear Mandarin on every word and every sentence, ready before you ask.
One Short a day now too: youtube.com/@wordbrush.
2.3.4 9月6日
Tap the word, hear the word.
The example sentence on a revealed card has always replayed when you tapped anywhere on it. The word above it did not, you had to find the small speaker beside the pinyin. Now the top of the card behaves the same way. Tap the character, the pinyin or the meaning and the word plays again, in the same native take, as many times as you like. The speaker button is still there if your thumb is already on it.
The App Store listing now speaks ten more languages. Japanese, Korean, Spanish for Spain and for Latin America, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Vietnamese, Russian and Italian learners can read what Wordbrush actually does before they download it. The app itself is still in English, and every listing says so plainly instead of hiding it.
Wordbrush teaches the 2,200 HSK words in ten quiet minutes a day: characters decoded into their components, native HD audio on every card, and real sentences from your very first session.
2.3.3 9月3日
Seven words now say what the card teaches.
Audio is the whole point of a listening card, so a clip that says the wrong thing is worse than no clip at all. The old recording for 岁 said a different word entirely. We went through the flagged words one at a time and re-recorded seven of them: 我, 请, 送, 岁, 多少, 忘 and 十. Every one now matches its card exactly, tones and all, in a clean native take.
If any of those seven are already in your rotation, the corrected audio is there the next time the card comes up. Nothing to reset.
Backups also travel cleanly between iPhone and Android now. Restore a backup from either one and your review history lands with the same shape it left with, so your daily numbers stay honest across the move.
Wordbrush teaches the 2,200 HSK words in ten quiet minutes a day: characters decoded into their components, native HD audio on every card, and real sentences from your very first session.
2.3.2 9月2日
The writing hint now draws the real brushstroke.
Tap hint on a writing card and you no longer get a thin guide line down the middle of the stroke. You get the stroke itself: the weighted entry, the taper, the hook flicking out at the end, laid down in the order a hand would write it. A light sweep then travels the shape from start to finish, so the direction is unmistakable before you try it yourself.
It is the difference between being told roughly where the stroke goes and being shown what the stroke actually is.
Have not tried a writing card yet? Settings, practice, word cards. Switch writing on and it joins your next session.

2.3.1 8月29日
Wordbrush is now completely free. Every word, every card, every story. No trial, no locks, nothing held back while we grow.
That means all 2,200 HSK 1-3 words, native HD audio on every word and every sentence, every character decoded into its components, the short stories, and the FSRS schedule that knows when you are about to forget. Open it, do today's session, close it. Nothing will ask you for money on the way.
Also in this update, the writing card's hint is rebuilt around actually being usable.
- The hint is simply always there now, in a fixed slot on the pad. Tap it and the stroke draws itself start to end, with a bright sweep travelling the path so you see the direction, turns and all. Previously it appeared once and then vanished for the rest of the card.
- Replays are free. You pay for a stroke's hint once, however many times you watch it.
- Run out of hint budget and the card no longer just ends. It walks you through every stroke that is left, one at a time, until the character is whole. Failing to produce a character and then never seeing it produced was the wrong place to stop.
- Friendlier finger tolerances throughout. The old ones were tuned against a stylus-straight ideal rather than a fingertip that has width, starts late, and covers its own ink.
Already subscribed? Thank you, genuinely. You paid for this app when paying was the only way in, and that is a large part of why it can be free now. You can cancel any time in Settings, subscription, and you keep absolutely everything. Nothing is taken away.
Downloaded Wordbrush in the free era? Nothing changes for you. You were always free, forever.
2.3.0 8月28日
Wordbrush teaches the 2,200 HSK words in ten quiet minutes a day: characters decoded into their components, native HD audio on every card, and real sentences from your very first session.
In this update, the writing card is rebuilt around the thing that actually teaches: writing from memory.
- A blank pad, and no model to copy. You produce the character yourself, or you find out that you cannot.
- Your own ink stays exactly as you drew it. Nothing is snapped into a tidier shape you did not really write.
- Each stroke is quietly checked as it lands. A wrong one fades away without showing you the answer, because being shown the answer is just copying again.
- Stuck three strokes running? A hint is offered, never forced, and it is honest about what it costs: take it and the card's suggested rating caps at hard.
- No tracing busywork, and no fanfare at the end. You decide the character is finished and tap done.
It is trained on the characters worth writing by hand rather than all 2,200: the core stock, and the ones that look alike. Producing a character from memory is the strongest exercise there is for telling look-alikes apart, so this is the card that keeps 我 and 找 from blurring together the next time you meet them in a sentence.
Writing is off by default. Turn it on in Settings, practice, word cards.

2.2.0 8月17日
Wordbrush teaches the 2,200 HSK words in ten quiet minutes a day: characters decoded into their components, native HD audio on every card, and real sentences from your very first session.
In this update:
- Cleaner English on the earliest sentence cards: the first 200 sentences now carry natural translations instead of word-by-word hints
And if you have been away for a version or two: sessions now keep their balance (words lead, sentences take their turn), and words you know well sometimes appear in a real-world sans or a brush face, so you learn to read Chinese as it appears in the wild, not just in your study font.

2.1.2 8月17日
Your daily session keeps its balance now: words lead, sentences take their turn, and no card type can crowd out the rest. If your queue had drifted sentence-heavy, it gently rights itself over the next few days.

2.1.1 8月14日
Characters the way China actually writes them.
Once you know a character well, Wordbrush now shows it in different type styles: the crisp serif of print, the clean sans of screens, and a flowing brush hand. Real signs and menus never stick to one font. Now your memory will not either. Turn it off any time in settings.
Every character in the app is sharper too: our full serif typeface now renders exactly as designed.

2.1.0 8月10日
Wordbrush is growing, and to keep it growing it is becoming a subscription: free to try for seven days, then $7.99 a week or $49.99 a year. One price, everything included, no tiers and no locked words.
If you downloaded Wordbrush while it was free, thank you. It stays free for you, forever. That was the promise, and we are keeping it.
Still no ads, no accounts, no streak guilt. Every word of HSK 1, 2, and 3, native audio, and the FSRS schedule, all on your device. Ten minutes a day.
2.0.0 8月6日
One clear count of what is left. A single reviews countdown now follows you across the session, the home screen, and the end of a session, so you always know how close you are to done.
Audio cards play on their own now, no tap needed. And the example sentences on the back of a card show their characters bigger, easier to read at a glance.
New words arrive at a gentler pace when a backlog has built up, so a heavy day never piles on more than you can meet.
Ten minutes a day. Free, as always.
1.9.32 7月17日
A big update, gathered from the last several weeks of work.
- Review scheduling now tunes itself to how you actually remember, so you see fewer cards each day without forgetting more, and new words spread out instead of stacking up at once.
- Drills: quick rounds that sharpen the words easy to mix up, by sound, by tone, and by shape, built from words you already know.
- Sentences you know come back as reading checks, not just dictation. Read the characters cold, then reveal the pinyin, the meaning, and the audio when you want them.
- A new horizon report, the third statistics page, charts when every card you know returns and gathers the bank of words still to come, all in one scroll.
- Hundreds more practice sentences, with fresh context rotating in so every word arrives with several sentences of its own.
- Sentence exercises now sit properly spaced through your day, with bigger, easier to tap choices.
- Reading cards speak the sentence aloud when you flip them.
- Quieter reminders that stay out of your way while you are already in the app.
- Sharper audio, fairer grading on near misses, and small refinements throughout.
Ten minutes a day. Free, as always.
