Detune is an iOS app that teaches synthesizer sound design by ear. Short, hands-on lessons run on a real wavetable synth built into the app, taking you from your first waveform to patches you build yourself: an '80s pluck, a synthwave lead, a dubstep wobble, an evolving pad.
Unlike video tutorials, where you watch someone else turn the knobs, every Detune lesson gives you a sound, a control and a question: what changed? No theory degree and no manual required.
WHAT YOU LEARN IN DETUNE
How synths work: waveforms, filters, envelopes and LFOs
Layering: two oscillators, detune, sub and noise
Effects: delay, reverb, distortion, chorus and phaser
Modulation: the mod matrix, FM, ring mod and hard sync
HOW THE LESSONS WORK
Narrated tutorials on a live synth. Every concept comes with a sound and a control to try it on.
Ear-training challenges: pick the brighter sound, spot the effect, match a target patch by ear.
Lessons take a few minutes each, so a session fits between other things.
29 MODULES IN SEVEN ACTS
The Detune Sound Synthesis path has 29 modules across seven acts: Foundations, Building Sound, Movement, Effects, Performance, Modulation Routing and Advanced Timbre. Each act ends with a checkpoint patch you build from scratch and keep.
A REAL SYNTH, NOT A SIMULATION
Detune runs its own wavetable synth engine: two oscillators plus sub and noise, a resonant filter, two envelopes, an LFO, a modulation matrix and an effects rack. The same engine powers every lesson, the Daily Patch and Free Play, where the whole synth is yours to explore and your own presets are saved.

WHO DETUNE IS FOR
Beginners who want to make their own synth sounds instead of scrolling presets, and producers who can use a synth but can't yet hear why a patch sounds the way it does. No prior music theory needed. Headphones help, but the built-in speaker works for every lesson.

The first module of Detune is free. Detune Pro unlocks all 29 modules, from your first sound to a finished patch.
Yearly: $59.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial.
Monthly: $12.99 per month.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel any time in your Apple ID settings. Prices shown in US dollars; the App Store shows your local price.

Lessons sound like music now: every sound plays a real line, in the right register, over a produced backing track. The whole synthesis curriculum has been reworked so each new sound is heard before you're asked about it. Patch-building challenges show you the finished sound first, compare one control at a time, and point out what's off instead of moving on. Plus smoother sound switching, better-feeling knobs, and fixes.
