Retold: Record Family Stories

Every week, Retold hands you one great question to ask a parent or grandparent. Press record and let them talk. Over time those answers become a searchable family voice archive and, when you're ready, a typeset memoir you can share as a PDF or print at home. HOW IT WORKS • A new question every week: 288 hand-written prompts across eight interview kits, plus room for your own • Press record and pass the phone. No account, no setup, nothing to learn • Watch their words appear as they talk, transcribed entirely on your iPhone • Long sittings are split into chapters you can tap to hear • Every story is organized by storyteller and searchable by every word, person, place and year ASK THE ARCHIVE Type a question like "What did Grandma say about the bakery?" and Retold searches every transcript on your phone. With on-device intelligence turned on, it answers using only what your family actually said, with links back to the exact moment in the exact story. THE BOOK Retold typesets your family's recordings into a memoir PDF with a cover, chapters, a dedication and photos in place, ready to share or print at home. BUILT FOR FAMILIES • Add every storyteller: grandparents, parents, anyone with a story • After each story, send the same question to another relative so they can record their answer too • Invite relatives into a read-only family circle for any one storyteller. They can listen and read, never edit, over Apple's own iCloud sharing • They speak Spanish, French, Hebrew, Mandarin or nine other languages? Transcription follows them, and any story can be read in another language, translated on your device • Retold learns a storyteller's voice and offers "Looks like Grandpa, confirm?" so you stop picking names • Mark a loved one's passing and Retold quietly remembers the day each year. Birthdays bring a themed question too • A Home Screen widget shows this week's question, or who you're remembering this week, with a Lock Screen view while you record • "Record a story for Grandma", "Play something of Grandpa's" and "Transcribe my latest story" work from Siri and Shortcuts • On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Retold can suggest a title, a people-and-places index, a follow-up question drawn from what was said, and a chapter opening. Always marked as a suggestion, always yours to edit or ignore JEWISH FAMILY (OPTIONAL) One switch in Settings adds the Hebrew date and parsha to every story, a yahrzeit for anyone you remember (with the after-sunset rule, alongside or instead of the calendar anniversary), a weekly question drawn from the parsha and a holiday link, both from Derekh Learning, two Jewish interview kits, Hebrew as a speaker language, and a fully Hebrew interface. Off by default. Free. YOURS, PRIVATELY • No account, no sign-in, no server of ours holding your family's voices • Recordings stay on your device, with optional iCloud backup under your own Apple account • Nothing is sent anywhere to be transcribed, translated or analyzed. It all happens on your iPhone • With the Jewish family setting off and no family circle shared, Retold makes no network calls of its own at all Try Retold free: record your first 5 stories from up to two storytellers, with on-device transcription, the searchable archive, Ask the Archive, chapters, sittings, the weekly question, the widget, reminders, family circles, sharing a story, a plain export of everything, and iCloud backup. What you record is yours to keep, forever. Retold Family, one optional in-app purchase, unlocks unlimited recording for every storyteller, The Book as a PDF, a sealed safe copy with a succession letter, question cards to print at home, story threads, and the best-in-class transcription and speaker-recognition downloads. Pay once, no subscription, and Family Sharing covers your whole family. Everything is digital; nothing is mailed. Some questions can only be answered by one person. Ask them while you can, and keep the answers forever.

Retold 2.0 is the biggest update yet. • New way to start: record your first 5 stories free, then Retold Family (formerly Retold Keepsake) unlocks unlimited recording, The Book and more, as a one-time purchase. Already using Retold? You keep unlimited recording. • Watch their words appear. On iOS 26 and later, the transcript now writes itself under the meter while they talk, so you can see it working. • Chapters. Long sittings are split into titled chapters you can tap to hear, and they become the table of contents in The Book. • Ask the Archive. Ask a question in plain words and get an answer built only from what your family said, with links to the exact moment. Works as a fast search even with intelligence off. • Family circle. Invite relatives to listen to and read one storyteller's stories, read-only, over Apple's iCloud sharing — including who's talking, for a shared table conversation. Stop sharing any time. • Read in another language. Any transcript can be translated on your device, with the original one tap away. • It knows the voice. After a few recordings Retold offers "Looks like Grandma, confirm?" instead of asking you to pick. • Recording survives a phone call. When the call ends, recording picks back up on its own where it safely can. • Photos help. A photo's own caption can inform the suggested title and index, on your device only. • A widget that remembers. In the week of a remembrance day, the widget shows who you're remembering, with a button to hear one of their stories. • "Transcribe my latest story" joins the Siri shortcuts. • Redeem a Code on the unlock screen, for gift codes. • A refreshed look for iOS 26 and 27, and a new app icon. • Bring the family in. After you save a story, Retold offers to send the same question to another relative so they can record their answer too, or to invite family to listen in a read-only family circle. Skip it any time. • Every story card, book, and export you share now says "Made with Retold", so relatives know where it came from. • Table conversations. Tag who's talking in a holiday-table recording by hand — tap a name, or "from here until the voice changes" — and hear back just one person's turns. The Book prints it as dialogue. An optional download finds where the voice changes and where people talk over each other, so tagging goes faster; it never guesses who's who. New and optional: a Jewish family setting. Turn it on for Hebrew dates and the parsha on every story, yahrzeits alongside anniversaries, a weekly question from the parsha, two Jewish interview kits, and a full Hebrew interface. Off by default, and free. Everything still happens on your iPhone. No account, ever.
