Ninety-eight places to watch the weather from, up from twenty-one. Twenty-one famous mountains, each reading something: Alishan's sea of clouds, the banner cloud off the Matterhorn, Taroko's river after rain, the Dolomites turning pink. And a platform at Qidu station, which reads how long the drizzle has been falling. Fifty-five places in miniature: whole cities as tabletop models, with clouds and their shadows drifting over, the real Sun, Moon and planets above, and puddles, snow and rising rivers below. A new scene picker, with search, favourites, recently used, and rows by shelf and region. Settings are now one grouped list. Each saved place can have its own scene. More than one weather source at once: each place gets the first source that covers it, the ones after it fill in what it lacks, and if it fails the next one takes over. QWeather now signs in with a JWT. Your saved places, and their scenes, come back after you reinstall. People in the scenes walk, stop and turn more like people. The "Automatic" scene is gone. If you had it, you now see the hills — which is what it showed.

Choose where your forecast comes from. MET Norway is now the standard source. New: Sources, a one-time purchase with every Pro feature except Apple Weather. Use MET Norway, or OpenWeatherMap, WeatherAPI.com, Pirate Weather and more with your own API key. Pro keeps Apple Weather and the next-hour rain forecast. Easier to read: the temperature and place name now sit on a shade that deepens when the scene behind them is bright — a sunlit carriage, a white sky. The widgets and the world clock now credit the weather source.

New world clock (Pro): every saved city on one 24-hour dial — noon at the top, midnight at the bottom — ringed by world landmarks that turn with the time and light their windows at night. Each city's weather is drawn over its landmark. Turn the dial to find an hour that works everywhere, and the scene goes there too. Five new views from a window: a plane, high-speed rail, a car, a train and a bus. Rain on the glass is a speedometer — straight down at a red light, flat at 300 km/h — the wipers keep time with the rain, and cold, damp air fogs the window. The scene menu is grouped into Nature, By the water, Cities & landmarks and On the move, with buttons to jump between them. iPhone Duo: open it and the scene and the details sit side by side. What to wear always shows three people: once this morning has gone by, tomorrow morning takes its place. They turn, hop and tap their feet now, and each has their own hair. The hourly forecast starts at the current hour again, instead of at last night's 22:00 — and the detail tiles no longer clip with larger text.

The details below the scene are now in tabs — Forecast, Details and Sky — so the Sun and Moon are one tap away instead of a long scroll down. New Rain tab: where Apple Weather has a minute-by-minute forecast, it tells you when rain will start or stop in the next hour, with a chart of how heavy it will be each minute. Where that forecast isn't available, the tab doesn't appear.

The clock keeps up now. The time on the timeline — and the Sun, the Moon and the colour of the sky with it — used to stay at the minute the app was opened. It now follows the real time while the app is open, and catches up the moment you come back to it. Coming back after a while also fetches fresh weather, so the hour on screen and the temperature beside it agree. A quick switch away and back does not ask again.

Seven widgets for the home screen, where there used to be one. Sky tonight — the Moon at its true phase, drawn rather than picked from eight icons, with the planets that are actually up. Today — temperature, feels-like, high and low, UV. Five days, three ways — the icons, the highs and lows as floating bars on one shared scale, and rainfall beside the chance of rain, because those are two different questions. What to wear — coat or no coat, umbrella or not, and how far the day moves between morning, afternoon and evening. Scene now — the landscape the app is drawing at this moment, photographed from the app itself rather than redrawn, so the Sun, the Moon, the cloud and the rain on your home screen are the ones on the screen inside. Français. The app speaks French throughout now — the forecast wording, the warnings, the settings and the widgets. Today is free to scrub. The timeline used to be locked end to end; now anyone can drag today's sky hour by hour, and Pro opens the days on either side of it. Weather fetching is faster and steadier on launch. Open the app once after updating. The widgets show what the app last published, and this version changed what gets published.

Six new landscapes, and each of them reads the weather in a way nothing else here can. Taipei 101 shows you where the cloud base is by which floor disappears into it. Mount Fuji puts the freezing level on a cone of known height, and wears the lens-shaped cap cloud that is the oldest forecast in Japan. The Golden Gate's 1,280 m span is a ruler laid across the strait, so how far along it you can still see is a direct reading of the visibility. The Eiffel Tower's fountains lean in the wind — and Paris drains them in a hard frost, so below freezing there is no water in the picture at all. Liberty stands in open water that turns to pack ice in a hard winter. The Pyramids throw the Sun's bearing and altitude across the sand as a shadow. Festive scenes. On the few days a year that call for it, the scene puts up lanterns or lights — Chinese, Japanese or Western, following your language or your own choice. It only ever adds the things people hang up; it never changes the weather. The hills are now free to pick, rather than only whatever automatic hands you. And a short introduction on first launch, for anyone meeting the app for the first time. Fixed: a new Moon in daylight was drawn as a grey disc across the Sun, which looked like an eclipse. It is invisible now, which is what a new Moon is. Fixed: the screen could sit on "Loading weather…" indefinitely when the forecast service never answered. It now gives up and offers the retry button.

The night sky has planets in it now. Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are drawn where they actually are for your latitude and the hour, and the details panel lists the ones that are up — how bright each is, and when it rises and sets. The landscapes were reworked. People swing their arms as they walk, the horse and the camel move the way those animals move, the city reads clearly on a rainy night, and the alpine and countryside scenes now layer front to back properly. In the forecast, every day carries its own sunrise and sunset, and the hourly strip shows the chance of rain as a band you can read at a glance. Scrubbing the timeline is smoother: the scene holds its weather while you drag instead of flickering through it.
