A new Tides tab. El Niño raises the sea along the West Coast, and now you can see it at your gauge: - Tide forecast: 10 days for 42 gauges from Southern California to Alaska and Hawaii. NOAA's tide table, plus how far the water is running above it and what the weather adds, with a 90% confidence band. Scroll through the days and tap for the numbers at any hour. - Flood days: the whole season on a calendar, coloured by the chance each day's highest tide reaches the minor, moderate or major flood level, or the gauge's record. Past days show what the gauge recorded. - Sea-level tilt: the Pacific's slope against every winter since 1993. - Tide alerts: choose a gauge, a level and how many days of warning you want, under Alerts & Settings. - Two new Learn chapters, Kelvin waves and Tides, and diagrams in every explainer. Also: units and Local/UTC time are now in Alerts & Settings, and every About page lists its sources.

Follow the Kelvin waves. The new Kelvin wave tracker on the Current tab maps every wave of the last three months as it crosses the equatorial Pacific and runs up the coasts of South and North America. Open it full screen and pinch to zoom, then turn on Moorings + gauges and tap any station to see its record against the model, with each wave's crest passage marked. Right below it, the new Kelvin wave Hovmöller follows each wave's crest along the equator and both coasts, day by day, with mooring and tide-gauge columns beside the gridded field. Also new: - El Niño phase plane: warm water volume against Niño 3.4, the loop the ocean traces from recharge to El Niño to discharge, with the current phase named in a tile at the top of the phase plane row. - Absolute or Relative Niño 3.4 on the peak card, kept in step with the headline, and on the forecast plume. The card now says plainly when no peak is forecast or when the peak has already passed. - Daily Niño chart: 1M / 6M / 1Y / All range chips, and a "Previous years" overlay of every year since 1982 (since 1991 in Relative) so you can see how today compares. - Current and Evolution are grouped into Surface, Below the surface, Kelvin waves and The record, and Forecasts and Hovmöller. Each collapsed row shows a small live preview and a status line, so you can see the state of things without opening anything. - Notifications now name the wave and take you straight to the tracker (or to the phase plane for a phase change). The old "Below the surface" tiles became the phase plane and the tracker. El Niño Forecast is now free. If you'd like to support it, there's an optional tip jar in Info. Built for expert-level tracking: a new "Below the surface" section (phase, warm water volume, ocean–atmosphere coupling, wind bursts, and a coastal Kelvin wave tracker with method explainers and references on every tile), a Temperature/Sea surface height switch on the Pacific map, an Absolute/Relative toggle and daily chart on the Niño 3.4 headline, the full NOAA/CPC advisory readable in the app (with push notifications that deep-link straight to it), and an MEI toggle on ENSO history. Also new: the ENSO Longitude Index (ELI) with its own forecast, a subsurface temperature cross-section of the equatorial Pacific, and the equatorial Pacific Hovmöller — sea surface temperature, convection, thermocline depth and sea surface height, observed and forecast on the same diagram.
