updated every day the Treasury publishes a new number.

yesterday, and how much it moved. Pinch the chart to walk back through
30 years of daily figures and watch the line bend. Scroll the table to
read any single day going back decades.

WHERE THE NUMBERS COME FROM
Every figure comes straight from the US Treasury's daily Debt to the
Penny record, the official total of debt held by the public plus
intragovernmental holdings. Nothing here is estimated and nothing is
projected. If the Treasury has not posted, neither have we.
The data used by this app is taken from the TreasuryDirect website using their "The Debt to the Penny and Who Holds It" JSON API service. Browse the Treasury website https://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/pd_debttothepenny.htm for more information.
