The HP 12C has been the financial calculator of bankers, real-estate agents, accountants and finance students since 1981 — still made today, still allowed in the CFP and CFA exams, still on countless desks. RPN 12C puts one on your iPhone, iPad and Mac, with the face, the keyboard and the display of the real thing. RPN 12C is a new simulator written from the calculator's owner's handbook, every worked example of the handbook serving as a test: it computes as the 12C does, to its ten digits, with its rounding, its stack and its error messages. THE CALCULATOR • RPN with the four-level stack, LAST X, the 20 storage registers and register arithmetic • Time value of money: n, i, PV, PMT, FV, payments at the beginning or end of the period, odd first periods (simple or compound interest) • Cash flows: NPV and IRR, up to 20 groups of repeated flows • Amortization schedules, simple interest (360 and 365 days) • Bonds: price and yield to maturity • Depreciation: straight line, sum-of-the-years' digits, declining balance • Dates: days between two dates (actual and 30/360), a date some days ahead or back with its weekday, day-month-year or month-day-year • Statistics: mean, standard deviation, weighted mean, linear regression and estimation • Percentages, powers, logarithms, factorial, rounding, fractional and integer parts • Programs of up to 99 lines, with GTO, conditional tests, single-step and pause THE 12C PLATINUM The app holds a second calculator, the 12c Platinum, written from its user's guide, with its own face and its own memory (menu → Calculator): the same functions, and an ALG mode with up to 13 parentheses, undo, backspace, x², programs of up to 400 lines and cash flows up to CF80. THE APP • The calculator's memory stays, as on the 12C (Continuous Memory): close the app, come back later, everything is where you left it • Turn the calculator over: its back plate, the reference table of keystrokes for dates, interest, amortization, bonds, depreciation and statistics • Copy the number in X with all its digits, paste numbers from the clipboard • Decimal point or decimal comma • Hardware keyboard on iPad, iPhone and Mac; on the Mac, the window takes the calculator's shape and zooms in steady steps • Works fully offline, no account, no ads, no tracking The app contains no HP software. • The 12c Platinum, a second calculator in the app: menu → Calculator. It adds an ALG mode with parentheses, undo, backspace, x², 400 program lines and 80 cash flows, on its own face and back plate. The 12C and the Platinum each keep their own memory. • On the 12C: RCL g 12× and RCL g 12÷; storing n, i, PV, PMT or FV no longer stops the stack from lifting; the depreciation amounts and the principal part of AMORT are rounded as on the calculator. • The faces drawn for the screen are cleaner: no lighter box around the keys.
