After learning of her grandfather’s untimely passing, Kathy Rain, a strong-willed journalism student, returns to her hometown for the first time in many years to pay her respects — but things are not what they seem. An air of mystery surrounds the circumstances of Joseph Rain’s death, involving unsolved investigations and disturbing behavior from the locals, driving Kathy to vow to uncover the truth for her widowed grandmother.
As she follows a trail of clues he left behind, questions emerge… What was Joseph Rain really looking for that night all those years ago? What turned him into a mere shell of a man, confined to a wheelchair? What secret did a suicidal young artist take with her to the grave, and why are so many people in Conwell Springs going mad? Armed with her motorcycle, a pack of smokes, and her sharp wit, Kathy soon discovers that the truth is more dark and sinister than she ever imagined…

Klare Empfehlung für Fans von Point&Click Adventures
Kathy Rain besticht vor allem durch seine besondere Atmosphäre, die ähnlich wie bei David Lynch´s Twin Peaks an der Schwelle zwischen realer Detektiverzählung und bizarrer Anderswelt angesiedelt ist. Was als normale Ermittlung beginnt, erhält zunehmend bizarrere und düstere Züge und nimmt den Spieler derart gefangen, dass man das Spiel zum Ende hin gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen möchte. Auch die (Haupt-)Charaktere sind gut konstruiert, haben Persönlichkeit und Hintergrund und können mit einigen zynischen, sarkastischen oder bissigen Kommentaren aufwarten, die auch bei der großen Menge an Dialogen keine Langeweile aufkommen lassen. Die Rätsel sind angemessen schwer, aber nicht unlösbar. Manchmal sind die Hinweise ein wenig sehr kryptisch, aber mit ein wenig Nachdenken und Probieren ist alles zu bewältigen. Ein echtes Highlight für Fans von düsteren Point&Click Adventures, die den Fokus vor allem auf die Handlung legen und den Erzählfluss nicht durch unnötige Quests behindern.

Und ich habe mir mehr Adventure des alten LucasArts-Charmes gewünscht. Das Spiel ist super, die Hauptdarstellerin war mir sehr sympathisch. Es ist nicht perfekt, man merkt dem Spiel ein begrenztes Budget an, auch ist die Story etwas löchrig und zum Ende scheint sie mir gar ein wenig wirr. Aber alles in allem bleibt es spannend. Das Spiel ist stark Dialoglastig, leider kommen daher Puzzle auch etwas kurz. Da wäre mehr drin gewesen. Trotzdem, Daumen hoch und gerne mehr davon.
Pixelig aber gute Story
Ja, das Spiel ist pixelig, aber die Story ist spannend und unterhaltsam und gut vertont in Englisch mit deutschen Untertiteln. Gerne mehr davon :)
