This is the most significant update of State Lines in a decade - every data field has been updated, double-checked, and verified to be current as of early 2026. Fields that are no longer relevant or difficult to update have been removed - such as many default state speed limits and automated traffic enforcement laws. State Lines is a personal passion project that has been maintained in the App Store for over 15 years, and takes a tremendous amount of time to manually research and update. This app was first released in 2010, pre-dating the era of in-app subscriptions - so the app only generates income from new app sales. If you want to keep free updates coming - please do tell your traveling friends about the app. This is the best way you can support this project and keep updates coming!

Fully updated: April 2017 This long overdue update brings 'State Lines' up to date with all the latest information on tax rates, cell phone rules, seat belts & child safety seat laws, drinking regulations, smoking bans, default speed limits, and more! We've also updated the app to support newer versions of iOS, and changed the displayed Gas and Diesel tax to display State Tax only, instead of combined State and Federal Taxes. This update features all the latest changes to various State Laws, in particular new cell phone usage bans and tax rates.

Major Database Update - seat belt laws, cell phone & texting, alcohol purchasing, speed limits, motorcycle helmets, tax rates and smoking bans. Data now current as of November, 2011. Additionally, we have decided to remove 'gun carry' laws from State Lines. We have found this law to be too complex to simplify enough and remain accurate to cover in this app, and there are many resources (books, apps, websites) that fully cover this topic in detail. Gun owners tend to be well informed anyway, and need full details in their hands - which is something State Lines simply can't provide. Instead, we have added in a field tracking bottle deposits for states that require it when purchasing cans & bottles of beverages.
