Lumo Browser
Desktop web, made for iPad
Free · In-App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Lumo 5.6 refreshes Settings and expands user scripts with resources, commands, and downloads. External-app links now ask first, and more sites stay in desktop view.
Lumo is a desktop-class browser designed for the iPad’s large display, keyboard and trackpad. Websites load in their full desktop layouts instead of being squeezed into mobile versions.
ONE PANEL FOR EVERYTHING
• New Tab and the command palette are now one panel, centred in the window
• Type an address, search the web, or run any Lumo command
• Find in Page highlights every match and steps through them
SPACES, TABS AND FOLDERS
• Keep separate tabs and pinned sites for different activities
• A separate private space: cookies and site data never touch the device, and everything is cleared when you end it
• Your 12 most-used sites in a quick-access grid
• Organise pinned sites into folders, and folders inside folders
• Drag to arrange tabs, folders and quick sites
DESKTOP-CLASS BROWSING
• Desktop layouts and complete website features by default
• Mouse, trackpad, keyboard shortcuts and native context menus
• Hover to preview links; open tabs in the background
• Zoom, fonts, appearance and permissions remembered per website
• Two pages side by side, each kept running
• A customisable toolbar: pin any button, or tuck it into More
VIDEO AND MEDIA
• When a page plays video, speed and Picture in Picture controls appear in the toolbar
• Media View shows every image and video on the page in an immersive, full-resolution gallery
SESSIONS, READING LIST AND PAGE MONITORS
• Save a set of tabs as a session and bring it all back later
• Keep pages for later in the Reading List
• Watch a page for changes and get notified when it updates
WEB EXTENSIONS
• Install compatible Web Extensions from extension stores
• Import local .crx, .xpi and .zip files
• New extensions stay off until you turn them on, and show which sites they can access
• Pin up to five extensions to the toolbar
Extensions require iPadOS 18.4 or later; not every desktop extension runs fully.
CAPTURE, MARKUP AND READING
• Select any part of a page to copy it or save it to Photos
• Full-length screenshots and whole-page PDF export
• Draw on pages with a stylus or finger — the marks come back with the page
• Reader mode and Markdown export
• Import bookmark files exported from other browsers, folders included
DOWNLOADS AND ASSISTANT
• Downloads keep going after their tab is closed
• Summarise pages, extract key points, save tables and organise tabs
• Bring your own API key; Lumo runs no AI relay server
PRIVACY AND CONTROL
• Blocks ads and third-party trackers
• Browsing history stays on your device
• Passwords, system passkeys, user scripts and per-site CSS

Lumo 5.5 introduces in-place translation.
• Translate whole pages for free. Text appears in its original position while preserving the page’s layout as much as possible. Translation continues as you scroll or new content loads.
• Translate more than page text. Lumo can recognize text in images and visible subtitles in videos. Each option has its own switch in the translation menu.
• Choose your languages. Select the source language or detect it automatically, then choose a target language supported by the system. Tap Show Original to end translation.
• Focus with Translation Lens, a Lumo Pro feature. Move and resize the lens to translate only what is inside it.
For new installations, Media View, Page Markup, and In-Place Translation now appear on the default toolbar. Web Toolkit, Page Notes, and the AI Assistant remain available under More. Existing custom toolbar layouts stay as you arranged them.

Lumo 5.4 makes it easier to find pages, manage browsing data, and enjoy videos.
A NEW HISTORY EXPERIENCE
Open history from the bottom of the sidebar to find recently visited pages and recently closed tabs, and reopen them with a tap.
Full history opens in its own tab, with browsing by date, search, bulk deletion, and up to 30 days of history.
MORE FLEXIBLE DATA CLEARING
Clear data from the last 15 minutes, hour, 24 hours, 7 days, or all time. Choose browsing history, cookies and site data, and cached images and files to suit your needs.
IMPROVED VIDEO VIEWING
Improved playback on sites where videos previously started muted, and reduced unexpected autoplay audio from background pages.
Better blending between video ambient lighting and player letterboxing makes viewing feel more natural.
A CLEANER BROWSING INTERFACE
A more compact top toolbar leaves more room for pages. The address bar can show both the domain and page title, with quick sharing and website pinning.
Sidebars and panels open and close more smoothly, with softer toolbar highlights. The AI assistant can now be added to your custom toolbar.
MORE DIRECT NEW TABS
Tap New Tab in the sidebar to open your start page directly. Your selected home page or new-tab extension still applies.
PRIVACY AND RELIABILITY IMPROVEMENTS
Strengthened private-space data protection and isolation of private tabs from extensions and the AI assistant. Improved password filling and user-script permission checks.
Improved backup restoration, download file management, extension reimporting, and recovery from page errors. Fixed input-method editing issues in notes and other details.
5.4 16 Oct
Lumo 5.3 makes the sidebar easier to use.
NEW KEYBOARD CONNECTION GLOW
A soft glow appears around the page when you connect or disconnect an external keyboard, giving you a clear visual cue. When Reduce Motion is enabled in system settings, the effect is simplified.
IMPROVED SIDEBAR TOUCH CONTROLS
Fixed an issue where finger swipes could fail to scroll the sidebar when many tabs were open. Scrolling, holding to reorder, and long-press menus now work better together.
STEADIER TAB REORDERING
Fixed tabs jumping back and forth while being dragged, keeping their positions and the reordering process more stable.
5.3 15 Oct
Make Lumo more personal in 5.2.
APP ICONS
Choose from 10 icons, including nine alternatives, in Settings → App icon.
SEARCH
Bing is now the default for new users. Choose from 10 search engines, including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Kagi, Brave Search, Ecosia, Startpage, Yahoo, Baidu and Yandex. Your existing selection is preserved.
BOOKMARK IMPORT
On iPadOS 26 or later, open Safari’s export settings from Lumo, then select the exported ZIP to import bookmarks with their folder structure. Passwords and browsing history are not imported.
EXTENSION START PAGES
Lemon New Tab joins the tested extensions list. Use search, quick links, Lumo bookmarks and daily wallpapers. Installing or enabling it automatically selects it for new tabs; disabling or removing it restores Lumo’s built-in start page. Extension pages now show a friendly name in the address bar and sidebar. Improved link opening, search navigation and startup recovery.
HISTORY & FEEDBACK
Clear the last hour, last 24 hours or all browsing history in Settings → Browsing History, with confirmation before deletion. Bookmarks, passwords, cookies and open tabs stay untouched. Copying an address now briefly shows a green checkmark.
NAVIGATION
Improved back and forward button state updates on pages that change their history without a full page load.
Extensions require Lumo Pro.
5.2 14 Oct
AMBIENT LIGHT
• When a video plays, its colours glow out from the player and fill the whole page — even the address bar and status bar
• The light sits behind the page, so lists, comments, danmaku and menus stay crisp
• Works on any video site: YouTube, Bilibili, X and embedded players
• A vivid glow on dark sites, a soft one on light sites, with text always readable
• Three strengths, remembered per site; turn it on from the video menu in the toolbar
VIDEO
• Picture in Picture now keeps playing after you leave Lumo
• A tidier video menu: Picture in Picture first, playback speed in its own submenu
• When you leave the app, video and audio not in Picture in Picture now pause
DOWNLOADS
• Save Image and Save Video now work on sites that show a placeholder first, such as Civitai
• A notice at the top of the page shows saving, done, or why it failed
• The folder button opens the Files app at the download's folder, as in Safari
• Double-click a file in the folder browser to open it
TABS AND PERFORMANCE
• Up to 16 pages now stay loaded at once, up from 8
• Pinned sites gain Open in New Tab, so the same site can be open more than once
• Fixed some text that was not translated
Ambient light is part of Lumo Pro.
5.1 2 Oct
Lumo 5.0 is our biggest update yet: a set of new features, smoother performance, and a careful reworking of everything from the toolbar to the sidebar.
ONE PANEL FOR EVERYTHING
• New Tab and the command palette are now one panel, centred in the window
• Type an address, search, or run any Lumo command
• Open it from New Tab in the sidebar, or with ⌘⇧P
NEW FEATURES
• Private space: its own tabs and site data, never written to the device, cleared when you end it
• Find in Page: ⌘F highlights every match and steps through them
• Video speed and Picture in Picture, appearing in the toolbar whenever a page has video
• Sessions: save a set of tabs and restore them together
• Reading List: keep pages for later
• Page monitors: get notified when a page changes
• Media View: every image and video on the page, full resolution, with swiping — even across several tabs
• Subfolders: folders inside folders, with drag-and-drop nesting
BACKUP AND SYNC
• Fixed folders and bookmarks sometimes going missing after a reinstall
• iCloud now syncs every space, plus settings such as theme, toolbar and search engine
• A daily automatic backup to iCloud Drive, keeping the latest three — restore it in one tap after a reinstall or on a new iPad
• A new full backup: choose tabs, history, Reading List, appearance, user scripts, extensions, notes and page monitors, and restore them category by category
TOOLBAR AND SIDEBAR
• Customise the toolbar: pin any button or move it into More; the assistant always stays on the right
• A new Library button brings history, downloads, the Reading List and sessions together
• Menus now use the native system style, with no flicker
• More reliable tab dragging: drag directly with a mouse or trackpad, drag vertically with a finger, and drop tabs straight into folders
• A redesigned profile page with a softly breathing, iridescent glow
INTERFACE
• Corners of the page, sidebar and panels now follow your device’s own screen corners, with tighter margins and more room for the page
• Adapted for iPadOS 26 windowed mode — the window controls no longer cover the sidebar

• Clearer quick-site icons in Dark Mode
MORE LANGUAGES
• Added Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish and French
• Choose the app language separately in Settings

• Many interface and stability improvements
Sessions, page monitors, and video speed and Picture in Picture are part of Lumo Pro.
5.0 27 Sept
MEDIA VIEW
Every image and video on a page, gathered into one grid. Open any of them at full size, and page through a whole set at once. Works across several open tabs at the same time.
FIVE LANGUAGES
Lumo now speaks English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, throughout — every menu, setting and explanation.
FIXES
Purchases now unlock Lumo Pro reliably. A signed receipt is trusted on its own, instead of waiting for a second service to agree.
Tabs you had open now come back after you force quit Lumo. They were being erased by the launch itself, one step before the restore.
Restore Purchases no longer reports an error when you simply decide not to sign in.
4.1 23 Sept
Lumo 4.0 introduces web extensions and an easier way to bring your browsing collection with you.
• Added Web Extension support. Install and manage compatible extensions, and pin favorites to the toolbar.
• Added bookmark import from other browsers. Import HTML bookmark files while preserving folder structure—no need to rebuild your collection.
• Two-Page Workspace is now free.
• Added Lumo’s own start page with search and quick access.
• Added search engine selection: DuckDuckGo, Bing, Google, Brave Search, and Baidu.
• Added monthly and yearly Pro subscriptions alongside lifetime access. Existing lifetime purchases remain valid.
• Improved the default download folder and Files app integration.
• Fixed toolbar entry points and Two-Page Workspace button feedback.
• Added Privacy Policy and Terms of Use links to the subscription purchase screen.
4.0 18 Sept
Three things in this update: downloads you can manage, a clear account of the video on a page, and tabs that come back whole after the system reclaims them. Along with fixes for several old causes of slowness.
SMOOTHER
· Browsing and scrolling on video sites is noticeably smoother
· Long pages that keep loading images and video no longer scroll worse the further you go
· The brief stall as a page finishes loading is gone
· Fewer pages are kept running in the background, so the one in front gets more of the machine
DOWNLOADS
· Close the tab a download came from and it carries on
· Cancel anything in progress
· A failed download stays in the list and says why: no connection, connection lost, server unreachable, not enough space, sign-in required
· Continue where it stopped once the network is back, or start again
· Every download shows the site it came from
VIDEO ON THE PAGE
· The Professional Web Toolkit gains Video: everything on the page, with format, resolution, length and file size
· One video offered in several formats or sizes appears once, with the versions underneath
· Listed largest first
· Right-click to save the ones that can be downloaded
· Segmented streams, video the page assembles as it plays, and protected video say so plainly — rather than saving a file that will not open
TABS
· A tab reclaimed by the system comes back with its history, not just the page you were on
· A short note while it comes back, instead of a blank rectangle
· Tabs show their state: asleep, restoring, failed to load, making a sound
· Mute a tab from its row; it stays muted as you follow links within the site
ALSO
· Fixed some sites failing to open
· A quiet line at the foot of the sidebar when a new version is available, gone once you update
· The buttons on a failed page, and the toolkit's Extract section, were redrawn
3.4 15 Sept
Lumo Browser 3.3 brings several major new features:
• Added Passkey support for faster and more secure sign-ins on compatible websites.
• Lumo can now be set as your default browser on iPad, so links from other apps can open directly in Lumo.
• Introducing Reader Mode. Lumo automatically detects supported webpages and displays a Reader button in the toolbar.
• Reader Mode supports multiple themes for a more comfortable reading experience.
• Easily copy article content or download it as a Markdown file.
• Fixed known issues and improved overall browsing stability and performance.
Thank you for supporting Lumo!
3.3 13 Sept
This update helps open pages stay where you left them, gives the context menu back to Lumo, and brings the interface into one design.
[Fewer page reloads]
· Pages recover on their own when iPadOS reclaims them, instead of coming back blank.
· Lumo keeps more pages live according to the device's memory, which noticeably cuts reloading while moving between tabs.
· When a page does have to be restored, its address and scroll position are still there.
[Video sites stay on the web]
· YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Bilibili, iQIYI, Youku, Tencent Video, Mango TV, Douyin, Kuaishou and others no longer push you toward their apps when you open a page or start a video.
· Dragging a video's timeline takes effect at once instead of jumping seconds after you let go.
[Hide distracting items]
· Enter selection mode from Lumo's context menu, then tap an ad, overlay or sidebar to hide it.
· Undo at any time. Hidden items return after a refresh; no permanent rule is saved.
[The context menu belongs to Lumo]
· A secondary click on a page opens Lumo's own menu, without the system's Writing Tools, Look Up, Translate and Share taking it over.
· Sidebar and pinned-site menus are down to what gets used, with the easily mistapped items removed.
[New tab and home page]
· Open a new tab to type an address or search the pages you visited recently. History is kept for seven days.
· Set any page as your home page, or restore the default in one tap.
· The new-tab popover carries a coloured glow.
[Web toolkit and translation]
· Headers, type, colour, icons, switches, selectors and code fields now share one design.
· Code fields gain a border and an example, and no longer autocapitalise "body" into "Body".
· The page console adds search and separates real script errors, cross-origin exceptions and failed resources.
· Detail screens no longer jump when opened, and actions say when they are done.
[Folders]
· Organise Tabs, New Folder and Rename Folder are now one dialog.
· Organising shows how many sites are selected, and the window fits its contents instead of leaving half a screen empty.
· Sites inside a folder can be dragged straight away, without opening them first.
[AI assistant]
· Every question and answer has a copy button beneath it.
[Other fixes]
· Coming back from another app no longer leaves the sidebar missing a button or showing a fragment of one.
· A row no longer goes blank after its menu is used.
· Pressing and holding a sidebar item no longer lifts and shifts it.

3.0 7 Sept
Lumo 2.7
[Come back without starting over]
· When you switch to another app, Lumo gives the page you are reading priority, reducing unnecessary reloads when you return.
· Background tabs use less memory, leaving the page you are working on more likely to stay put.
[Ask anything, or ask about the page]
· The assistant can now answer questions unrelated to the page: explain an idea, think something through, or help make a plan.
· Ask about a page and it still puts that page first, with the source lines it found highlighted in place.
[Edit the address by touch]
· Tap the address bar to edit and bring up the keyboard, even when it is resting as a shortened site name.
2.7 4 Sept
The assistant reads more of the web, and reads it back better.
[Admin pages and reports]
· Pages built from tables — CRM, ticketing, reporting — used to give it only the navigation. It now reads every row.
· A row is one whole record, and every value carries its column name.
· These pages keep only what is on screen. What is not there, it calls not loaded — never empty.
· Scroll across and ask again; it reads the page as it now is.
[Answers are laid out]
· Headings, lists, bold and code appear as themselves, instead of as punctuation.
[Open it and you can see what to ask]
· The page you are on is already in the box. Change tabs and it follows.
· An empty panel lists seven things it can do, each written as a sentence you could say.
· Question and answer no longer have to be told apart.
· Return sends; Shift-Return starts a line.
[Fixed]
· The page no longer shrinks while you type.
· Toolbar buttons no longer arrive a beat late.
· Pinned site icons no longer linger after the sidebar retracts.
· The assistant panel now gets out of the way when a translation opens.
[Unchanged]
· Bring your own key, or sign in with a subscription you already have.
· Lumo has no server; questions do not pass through us.
· Any site can be set to never be read or acted on.
· The assistant is part of Lumo Pro.
2.6 27 Aug
The assistant reads, and now it acts.
ASK, AND SEE IT ON THE PAGE
· Ask in your language about a page in another, and the lines it found
light up where they are
· When a page does not say it, it says so rather than filling the gap
SAY IT, AND IT IS DONE
· Export a PDF or a long screenshot, download a picture, save a table
· Hide the images, change the page size, force light or dark
· Open and close tabs, pin a site, put two pages side by side
· Write a note
· Every step is shown as it happens, and can be stopped
READ ANOTHER TAB
· "Read the third tab and tell me how it differs" — nothing to add by hand
SCRIPTS IT WRITES, THAT YOU DECIDE ON
· Ask for a small script and you see it first, marked with whether it can
send anything off this device
· Kept switched off, and only for the site you were on
ALSO
· Conversations stay on this iPad and are still there tomorrow
· Any site can be marked never to be read or acted on
· Your own key, or sign in with a subscription you already have
· Lumo has no server. Nothing passes through us
· Fixed page zoom: it now scales everything the way a desktop browser does,
and stays put when you turn the page
· Part of Lumo Pro
2.5 24 Aug
Lumo now has an assistant that has read the page.
ASK ABOUT YOUR PAGES
· A panel on the right that has already read what you are looking at
· Put several pages in at once and ask where they agree and where they do not
· With the two page workspace open, both halves come in on their own
· Bring your own key, from whichever service you like — or sign in with a
subscription you already pay for
· The key stays in this iPad's keychain. Lumo has no server, so nothing
passes through us
· Any site can be marked never to be read
· Part of Lumo Pro
ALSO
· Shortcuts for all four side panels, each one changeable
· A short opening on the first launch and after an update, and nowhere else
· Fixed opening a downloaded PDF doing nothing
· Fixed user scripts running inside the PDF viewer and making it unreadable
2.3 19 Aug
Lumo can now run scripts you install yourself.
USER SCRIPTS
· Standard .user.js scripts, added from a link, a file on your iPad, or pasted source
· Nothing comes preinstalled — what runs is your decision
· A mark appears in the address bar when a page has scripts on it
· Press it to see which ones, or to switch them off for this site alone
· A script's settings stay on this device and survive updating it
· Part of Lumo Pro
KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
· Every shortcut is listed in Settings, and can be changed to whatever you already have in your hands
· What the menu shows and what the page responds to are now the same thing
· Combinations a website needs for itself are refused, so you cannot take one by accident
AVATAR ORNAMENTS
· Seven to choose from, in your profile
· Part of Lumo Pro
ALSO
· A short opening on the first launch and after an update, and nowhere else
· The Lumo Pro page has new descriptions and new icons
· The profile card is redrawn
· Various stability improvements
2.2 17 Aug
Two new tools for work that takes a while.
TWO PAGE WORKSPACE
· Two websites open side by side, both of them live
· Click either page and the address bar and keyboard follow it
· Drag the divider to rebalance, or swap the two sides
· Markup runs across both pages instead of stopping at the divider
PROFESSIONAL WEB TOOLKIT
· Extract: images, links and tables, downloaded in bulk or copied as Markdown
· Display: hide images and media, force light or dark, adjust zoom, text size and line spacing
· Inspect: page information, resources, cookies and storage, the console; pick an element on the page, measure it, sample a colour
· Automate: custom CSS and JavaScript saved for one site, kept on this device
· Export: the whole page as a PDF, one long image, or a QR code
Both are part of Lumo Pro.
ALSO
· Whole-page export rewritten: the PDF and the long image are now the entire page rather than the screen
· Exporting happens out of the way — the page you are reading does not move or lose its place — and says how far along it is, with a way to stop
· The five feature buttons are redrawn: fixed slots that no longer shift under your finger, and a highlight that travels to whichever one is on
· The side panels now take turns: opening one closes the other, so the page always has its full width to be read in
· With the sidebar away, bring the pointer to the left edge of the window to borrow it back
· Resting on a link shows what the page is called, from this device's own history — nothing is fetched
· Loading a page says so plainly, and retrying a failed page returns to the address that failed
· Fixed video controls going dead after a long session, recoverable only by relaunching
· Fixed a mail site being forced to its mobile layout
· Trackpad scrolling is identical to a finger now, with no dropped frames
· Various stability improvements
