Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

Easy to use encrypted messaging app from a non- for profit organisation. It gives me full control of my private data as messages is only stored on my own devices. Also has a timer if you need to send sensitive data which should only be visible for a short time before it self delete.
Where is the iPad app?

I really miss the iPad app. Any plans?
Developer Response
iPad support has arrived. :) Update to version 3.0.2+ and you'll enjoy a brand new interface that gives you more space without artificial zoom. You can also reinstall Signal on your iPad to set it up as a linked device. It will work alongside Signal on your phone (similar to Signal Desktop) so you can send and receive two-handed messages or keyboard support. We also suggest that you enable automatic updates: 1. From the Home screen of your iPhone 2. Tap Settings> [your name]> iTunes & App Store. 3. Activate applications

• We've introduced additional confirmations and educational messaging in the app to help protect Signal users from phishing and social engineering attacks. As a reminder, never reply to chats pretending to be Signal, and never send your verification code, PIN, or recovery key to anyone.
• Animated GIF searches are now much faster, but it's still up to you if you say what you mean or meme what you say.
