I’ve been a long-time legacy user of the paid version of MindNode (now called “Classic”), and it’s an app I use for many things, especially structured note-taking, Ux and information architecture. So when the “Mindnode Next” app came around, I was eager to take a look and pay for it. Until I discovered it was a subscription model. When I look at all my monthly and annual expenses, a single payment with several years of updates is far more appealing than yet another thing bill I have to pay on the regular. Everything is moving to subscriptions, but what these app developers seem to forget is that regular people will have to make choices, and MindNode is something I can sacrifice in favor of less practical but free alternatives.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. If you don’t want to subscribe, I’d recommend you use our free editor. It has all basic mind mapping features and allows to export all documents. Also syncing with CloudKit works flawlessly in the free version.I understand your concerns regarding our subscription model and wish we could over an alternative. However as an app that has been developed by the same team for more than 16 years, we require some form of recurring revenue. Paid upgrade are sadly not possible on the App Store and unfortunately also many users don’t like them. With subscription we can assure our users the continued development of the application and give them the safety that we will stay around. For example one of our competitors sadly disappeared this year as they ran out of money.
