A brand new onboarding flow has arrived! New users will be prompted to complete their profile by entering their username, profile picture, display name and location. Existing users who are just upgrading to this version will also go through the onboarding once. Other feature improvements: - The Following Feed is now fully functional. Unique Usernames are here! You can now choose your own unique account username, and find other photographers by searching for theirs. We've assigned a username to the 8000 existing Newgrain accounts. To update your username, go to "Edit Profile" and then to "Username". This is a big step towards making it easier for users to discover photographers, and overall towards making Newgrain feel more social and engaging. In this update, we’ve made a few improvements to the app interface to make Newgrain easier to use! Feature Improvements: - We’ve moved the “Notifications” page (previously on the top right of the feed) to a standalone tab in the main navigation bar! We had noticed that a lot of users did not know it existed, so we’re now experimenting with this new position. - We’ve added timestamps (“yesterday”, “a week ago”…) to notifications, so you know when you’ve received them - We’ve moved the buttons to “My Gear” and “My Rolls” to the profile tab! In this update, we introduce the Lens index! Now, when making a new post, you will choose from a list of lenses instead of typing it. If you don’t see your lens in the list, just add it by clicking the “+” on the top right of the screen, and we will take it as input to expand the index. We still have a lot of work to do to clean this index, as there are a lot of duplicates and lenses without any maker information. Also, My Gear with multiple elements is now fully running - just select your cameras, lenses, and scanners from the lists, and these will show at the top of the lists when making a new post! What’s Next: - We still have problems setting up the subscription for Newgrain Plus, but will try releasing the official subscription and paywall it as soon as we can.

In this update, we introduce a new section called My Roll: a personal home for your film photos. Rolls are private albums which only you can see, which contain information such as film stock, camera, etc… and from which you can directly post to Newgrain! Feature improvements: - You can now add multiple cameras, lenses, and scanners to My Gear! You are currently limited to 2 each, but you will soon be able to upgrade to Newgrain Plus directly from the app, allowing you to have unlimited Gear. - We are temporarily introducing advanced filtering in film stock Sample Photos, which means you can narrow down your search according to Format, Push/Pull, Expired and Developing Method. This will be a Plus feature in the near future. - Newgrain Picks photos will now be displayed in the correct order - An optional “City” field was added to the New Lab page - “Format” was made a mandatory field when creating a new film stock Design improvements: - Post titles are now smaller in the post page - Spacing between the elements has been slightly reduced - A pencil icon has been added to the “Edit Profile” button - The “More” menu icon was changed - The Upload button is now sticky at the bottom of the New Post page - The “Allow curation” description part of New Post was made clearer What’s Next: - We will soon be releasing a new update to complete this one. Since the very beginning, Newgrain's film stock index has been the backbone of the platform, and we became the best resource to find out information and sample photos for any film stock. Now, we've brought this same capability to film cameras – one of our most requested feature ever! In our new "Index" tab (formerly "Film Stocks"), discover over 800 approved cameras, with description, brand, type (SLR, Rangefinder, Point-and-shoot, etc...), format (35mm, 120, 4x5...), and sample photos. - Navigate directly to a camera page from a post - Browse through all cameras grouped by Brand (Canon, Minolta, Nikon, etc...) - Filter through the cameras by type (SLR, Rangefinder, Point-and-shoot, etc...) - Search through the cameras with our powerful search bar In the next few months, we'll work hard to approve new cameras from the ones you've suggested, so don't worry if your camera isn't in the index yet. Welcome to our biggest update yet! INTRODUCING: CATEGORIES Categories are a whole new way to discover amazing work on Newgrain. Portrait, Landscape, Street, Documentary... there’s a place for any style of photography on Newgrain. You will find all categories in the “Explore” tab and browse through each category’s photos. Tag your new (and existing) posts with a category! THE HOT FEED With the new “Hot” feed, you can browse through Newgrain’s most liked posts in the last 24 hours. A great complement to the “Recent” feed (formerly “All”) to discover the greatest photos shared by the Newgrain community. NEW NAVIGATION The new navigation bar now welcomes the Discover tab (formerly the “Community” tab). It also includes one big upgrade: you can now tap on your current tab to navigate back to the original page, making the app so much smoother to use! REDESIGNED PROFILES No more cropping your photos on your profile. The new profile page shows your photos as a staggered grid to maintain the original aspect ratio of the image. Saved film stocks are here! You can now see a list of all the film stocks you saved by clicking on the “More” menu on your profile. MAIN IMPROVEMENTS - The Feed loads much faster than before. Instant film is here!! Many of you had requested this – you can now filter your feed and film stock list to only see Instant films (Polaroid, Instax, etc.) – and a new array of instant films has arrived in the Film Stock index. But wait, there’s more: - New B&W film developing options have arrived: HC110, XTOL, Rodinal, and Adonal! - Expired film support is here - you can now specify if the film you shot was expired, and what year it expired. This will appear in the post’s page along with the other details. - Film stocks you’ve saved are now at the top of the film selection menu when uploading a new post - Film stocks have been grouped into types (Color Negative, B&W, Instant, etc) in the film selection menu - Labs in your own country now appear at the top of the selection list - The “developing method” field is now auto-filled according to the film stock you’ve selected Other small improvements: - Cleaned up the selection menus of film stocks and labs by removing titles from lists with no elements in them - The “ISO” field when added a new film stock now opens the numeric keyboard (not the alphabetical one) - “Suggested film stocks” has been renamed to “Film stocks you suggested” and now shows Brand + name (instead of just name) - Removed unapproved film stocks from the Brands pages - “Country” and “name” are now mandatory fields to add a new lab. “Name” is also now mandatory to add a new camera or film stock. - The “Brand” field when adding a new film stock is now a text field (as it was originally when the app launched - we received requests to reinstate this after we changed it to a selection field) - The popup page for selecting a film/camera/lab now closes after pressing “Clear” - The “Instagram” field when completing your profile now detects Instagram URLs and changes them into Insta usernames Go to newgrain.nolt.io to post your suggestions and bug reports, and see you in the next update!
