Wait. What?
What was I doing?
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Wait. What? is a daily accountability app for distracted, busy, and easily-overwhelmed brains.
Most task apps assume you'll remember to open them, stay motivated, and won't spiral if you miss a day. This one doesn't.
GET TASKS OUT OF YOUR HEAD
Hold to record — speak a task and AI parses it instantly
Photograph your notebook — Quick Scan turns handwritten lists into tasks
"Hey Siri, add to Wait, What?" — Siri Shortcuts support
Brain Dump anything — it's your inbox for every loose thought, errand, and someday idea. Sweep Mode helps you triage it one note at a time, no overwhelm
STAY ON TOP OF TODAY
"What should I do right now?" gives you one answer, not a list
Overdue tasks stay visible — they don't vanish and guilt you from the shadows
Reminders follow up until something is done, not just once
Streaks forgive one miss per week, because life happens
The focus timer (10, 20, or 45 minutes) lowers the bar to starting
Partial days are celebrated, never penalized
BILLS, WITHOUT THE DREAD
A dedicated Bills section tracks monthly payments separately from your tasks. Set due dates and amounts, get a gentle heads-up before each bill arrives, and mark them paid — without it messing up your streak or your focus score. Import from DUE, Apple Reminders, or any CSV.
YOUR YEAR AS A STAR MAP
The Sky view turns your task history into a personalized galaxy — every completion becomes a star, shaped by what you finished, when you did it, and how hard you pushed. Your sky is unique to you. Capture special moments by attaching a photo to a completion. Watch shooting stars when you hit milestones.
WEEKLY STORY MODE
Instead of a dashboard of numbers, see your week as a story — Focused, Heavy, Comeback, Scattered, or Quiet. One headline. A few beats. The whole picture: tasks, bills, focus sessions, notes. A mirror, not a report card.
WORKS EVERYWHERE YOU DO
Apple Watch — glance at your complication or quick-capture tasks from your wrist
Apple Calendar + Google Calendar sync — see your tasks alongside your events
Apple Reminders bidirectional sync — changes flow both ways
iPad layout — full responsive design
YOUR KIND OF WIN
Pick how the app celebrates with you: confetti, a hype coach, a sarcastic nemesis who's furious you actually finished, or a micromanager convinced you could've done it faster. Choose from 7 themes.
BETTER TOGETHER
Body-doubling works. Invite a partner, housemate, or friend — see who's focusing in real time, start a shared session, send nudges, and chat without leaving the app. Share tasks and track each other's progress. No leaderboards. No shame.
HONEST BY DESIGN
No streaks that break at midnight. No overwhelming dashboards. No all-or-nothing scoring. Deleted tasks can be restored. Just a calm, structured place to show up.
Built for people who need a little external structure to get things done.
more Small fixes and polish on top of 4.0.
Fixed a Focus timer trap — closing the focus challenge with × now just minimizes it. No lost tree, no penalty, and your tabs are always one tap away.
Your constellations are easier to see. Once the nebula sky unlocks, the constellation shapes and connecting lines now stand out clearly against the bright background instead of washing out.
"Whenever" is now "Someday" — a clearer name for your no-pressure list. Your tasks are exactly where you left them.
A calmer notebook. Removed some visual clutter and gave the ruled lines more room to breathe.
A more consistent look. Selected buttons and rounded corners now match across the app.
Thanks for using Wait. What? — wait, what was I doing?
4.0.2 16 Jun
Version 4.0.1 — Paper & Sky
Wait, What? is redesigned from the ground up.
A whole new look
Ruled notebook texture, ink typography, stacked paper category cards with a color band for each category. The light theme is now a cream notebook by default.
Ink completion
Complete any task and a pen-stroke animates across it, a checkmark draws itself, and your completion flies up as a star into the sky.
The Sky is alive
The Sky tab follows the clock — sunrise, blue sky, golden hour, dusk, stars at night. The moon tracks its real phase and arc across the sky. Complete 500 tasks to unlock the Milky Way nebula as your sky background.
Radiant — a new theme
White gallery base, rose accents, and hand-drawn botanical garlands that wrap around every category header. The Sky tab becomes a flower Garden where your completions grow as blooms instead of stars. Reach 500 completions to unlock a lush garden background.
Hold to edit, tap to peek
Tap any task to see your attached note or photo inline. Hold for half a second to open the edit sheet — no more accidental opens.
Critical tasks
Hand-drawn gold star, floats to the top. No more red flashing dot.
Cleaner edit sheet
Simpler by default, with an inline schedule picker. No surprise keyboard popup.
Bug fixes
Fixed "What's New" popup appearing on every launch
Fixed timer hanging at 0:00
Fixed session log accidentally completing tasks when tapping
Fixed session log reappearing every time after dismissal
Fixed category colors colliding after reorganizing categories
Fixed Apple Reminders sync stamping the wrong completion date
Fixed lifetime tree count being incorrect

Bug fixes and performance improvements
3.6 11 Jun
What's New in Wait, What? — Version 3.5
June 2026 · A lot happened.
The app got a lot calmer.
The Today page used to stack a dozen things at once. We pared it back. Categories now rest as slim rows — tap to expand into full task cards. Only one category opens at a time. Everything else stays out of your way until you need it.
The animated background blobs? Still there, just still now. Less motion, same vibe.
Profile photos in groups
Set a profile photo in Settings and your face shows up in your group's Together room and member list. Tap the avatar circle in Settings to upload from your camera or photo library.
Timer got smarter (and quieter)
A few things that were broken are now fixed:
Backgrounded completion — if you finished a timer while the app was in the background, you'd come back to a flash that disappeared before you could read it. Now there's a persistent Done button waiting for you.
Alarm notification loop — the completion alarm used to keep firing until you tapped the notification. Now it stops the moment you switch back to the app on any tab.
Countdown drift — the timer now stays accurate even when your phone is doing other things.
"Focusing" badge — the task you're timing shows a live indicator on your Today view.
Group picker is gone — starting a focus session used to ask which group to broadcast to. Now it just broadcasts. Being in a group is the opt-in.
Focus tab layout — the controls were floating in weird places. Fixed. They're centered now.
3 seeds per day cap — Challenge mode now caps seed awards at 3/day so it stays meaningful.
Sunday Deck
Sunday evenings, the app now opens a swipeable wrap-up: see your week's recap, sweep through your Whenever list, plan what's next, and end on your constellation. It replaces the two banners that used to appear. One surface, one flow.
Calendar got cleaned up
Week view now uses the same day strip as Today — tap any day, see that day's tasks.
Day view handles overlapping timed tasks side by side instead of stacking them.
Tasks support end times now (shows up after you set a start time).
The "Completed" view moved into Insights where it makes more sense.
Filters (categories, sources, export) collapse behind a funnel button so the header isn't a wall of controls.
Insights you can actually read daily
Month heatmap replaces the 4-Week Fingerprint. Tap any day to see what you did.
Today pulse at the top — how today compares to your usual for this day of the week.
14-day mini strip under the Today header.
Groups cleanup
Chat scroll no longer hijacks the whole page.
The keyboard hides the nav bar properly in chat now.
Personal tasks are always yours — no more accidental group visibility.
Shared group tasks show up inline on Today instead of on a separate page.
A bunch of smaller fixes
Tapping an un-complete now shows an undo toast instead of asking you to confirm (no shame dialogs).
The Whenever cloud no longer suppresses itself for the entire day after first appearing.
Adding a task no longer hangs if you're offline — the form resets immediately.
AI quick capture now respects the date you're adding to, not just today.
"Due time" is now called "Start time" (because that's what it is).
Category colors are now auto-assigned — the custom color picker is gone.
As always: if something's broken or weird, you know where to find us.
3.5 8 Jun
Today has a new look — a large date header and a tap-to-navigate week strip let you scrub forward and back without leaving the screen. Task-density dots show at a glance which days are heavy.
Calendar tab
The Plan tab is now called Calendar. Same features, clearer name.
Sky tab
Your year-in-stars Constellation now has its own dedicated spot in the nav bar. Tap Sky to see your full year at a glance.
Notes quick access
Brain Dump is now a pill in the Tasks header — one tap to jot, no tab switch needed.
New Bright theme
A clean, high-contrast light option under Settings → Appearance.
Bug fixes & polish
Tapping Save in the edit task sheet now closes it (it was saving silently but not dismissing)
Add Checklist is now always visible in the edit sheet, no longer buried under "More options"
Removed a broken "Spatial Day Bar" toggle that pointed to a removed feature
Tightened the spacing above the header on iPhone — less wasted space near the Dynamic Island
3.2 30 May
Your constellation just got a whole lot more real.
A real night sky
Your Constellation now uses an actual astrophotography image of the Milky Way as its backdrop — the same kind of photo you'd take from a dark sky preserve. Your completed tasks live among real stars now.
Capture moments
When you check off a task, you can now add a photo to mark the moment. Those completions become a special star in your constellation with a subtle iris ring — a memory embedded in your sky. Tap it anytime to revisit.
Your sky unlocks
Reach 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 completions and real named constellations — Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, Orion, Scorpius, Leo, and more — fade into your sky with a shooting star. Your most active categories can unlock constellations of their own.
Cleaner Settings
Settings is reorganized into three chapters — YOU, THE APP, and YOUR DATA — with a quick-jump row at the top so you can get to what you need in one tap. ADHD settings now has four labeled groups: Celebration, Timing, Friction, and Sensory.
Daylight theme
A new adaptive theme that automatically shifts between light and dark based on your local sunrise and sunset. No alarm needed.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.

3.0.51 23 May
Wait, What? — Version 3.0.4
Version 3.0 is the biggest update to Wait, What? yet — new tools built specifically for how ADHD brains work, a full visual refresh, and fixes throughout.
Constellations
Every task you complete becomes a star. Over time, your finished tasks form a personal star map — a quiet, satisfying view of everything you've actually gotten done. No streak shame, no graphs. Just stars.
Live Activity Timer on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen
Start a focus session and your timer lives on the Dynamic Island and Lock Screen — no need to keep the app open. A visual progress ring drains in real time so you can feel how much time is left without doing math. The timer stays accurate whether the app is open or backgrounded, and ends cleanly when your session is done.
Today Timeline
The top of your Today screen now shows a live timeline of your day. A "now" marker tracks the current time, and your scheduled tasks are plotted along it so you can see at a glance what's coming up and how your day is laid out.
Insights Story Mode
Weekly Insights now reads like a story, not a spreadsheet. Instead of raw numbers, you get a plain-language summary of what you completed, where things piled up, and what patterns showed up across the week.
Brain Dump Sweep Mode
Got a backlog of notes in Brain Dump? Sweep Mode gives you one note at a time, fullscreen. Swipe to turn it into a task, archive it, or trash it. One decision, no overwhelm.
Bills
A dedicated Bills section tracks your monthly and biweekly payments separately from your regular tasks. Bills only count toward your daily total on the day they're actually due — not all week.
Settings, Simplified
Bills and Notifications each have their own section now instead of being buried inside ADHD Settings.
Bug Fixes and Polish
The task editor now shows all of your categories when moving a task, including the option to send it to Whenever. The privacy toggle no longer hides behind other content. Dozens of spacing, color, and typography fixes across all nine themes.
3.0.4 21 May
Bills get their own spotlight on Today.
A new horizontal preview shows the next 7 days of bills at the top of your Bills category — see what's coming, what you've already paid, and how much you still owe, all without tapping in. Paid bills show with a soft strikethrough and so you can spot your progress at a glance. Tap any bill card to edit the amount, due day, name, or notes right there. Prefer Bills to behave like any other category? Toggle it off in Settings
Today & Plan
Bills and biweekly bills now save reliably when you add or edit them
Duplicate Bills categories from earlier versions are cleaned up automatically
Quick-add captures work more cleanly on iOS
The Plan view's edit sheet scrolls focused fields into view so you can actually see what you're typing
Notifications, kinder
"Streak at risk" and end-of-day messages were rewritten to drop the shame-framing
A few Petty Rival lines that punched too hard have been retired
Duplicate push notifications no longer pile up
Streaks, smarter
Streaks no longer break on days that legitimately had no tasks scheduled (like weekdays-only routines on a weekend)
Apple Watch
Watch app reads your bills and tasks again (an earlier regression is fixed)
Calendar and Reminders integrations got a few rough edges sanded down
Under the hood
Tighter security rules across shared groups and chat
Notification scheduler is faster and easier on your battery
Account deletion flow polished
Plus a long list of small fixes across the app
2.9.1 15 May
What's New
Fixes and refinements based on real-world use.
Apple Watch task capture: fixed an issue where dictating a task on the Watch sometimes created two copies instead of one.
Today tab: completed tasks now collect in a single "Completed today" section at the bottom of the screen — collapsed by default — instead of being scattered across each category. Tap a row to un-complete if you tapped by accident.
Plan tab: added a new "Completed" view that shows your last 30 days of finished tasks, grouped by day, with search.
Edit form: simplified the task edit sheet across both Today and Plan tabs. Cleaner layout, faster to change a name, time, or category, with quick access to a "Push to Tomorrow" shortcut.
Up Next strip: fixed a bug where tasks completed days or weeks ago could linger in the Up Next preview.
Category cards: fixed a phantom "+1 overdue" badge that could appear on categories with no actual overdue tasks.
Progress rings: overdue tasks no longer prevent today's ring from reaching 100% when today's list is cleared.
Group tasks: fixed duplicate push notifications for one-time group tasks that were already finished.
AI quick-capture: resolved an error where the AI parse button would show "AI unavailable" on web.
Stability and performance improvements across the app.
2.8.1 12 May
Apple Watch — Wait, What? is now on your wrist. Start focus timers, capture quick tasks by voice, and body-double with your group. Timers stay in sync with your iPhone.
Built for hyperfocus — When a focus timer ends, your Apple Watch keeps buzzing until you tap Dismiss. No more missing the alarm because you were locked in.
Custom timer durations — Pick any duration from 1 to 90 minutes on Apple Watch.
Hey Siri, add a task — Add tasks hands-free. Just say "Hey Siri, add a task in Wait, What?" and it's waiting for you when you open the app.
AI Voice Capture — Tap the mic inside the app and speak your task naturally. The AI figures out the title, due date, and time for you.
Action buttons on more notifications — Tap Complete or Snooze right from the notification, including for shared group tasks.
Stability fix — Resolved an issue that could unexpectedly sign you out. You should stay logged in reliably now.

Bug fixes and performance improvements. This update also adds Apple Calendar and Apple Reminders integration — see your events and reminders alongside your tasks without switching apps.
2.2.1 5 May
New: Add tasks with Siri
Say "Hey Siri, add a task in Wait What" — Siri asks what it is, you say it out loud, and it's waiting in your list when you open the app. No typing, no unlocking, no forgetting.
New: Focus Strip
A collapsible strip at the top of your Today tab shows your top tasks for the day — no digging required. Tap one to check it off, or tap "See all" to drop into Focus Mode.
New: Upcoming view
Plan tab now has an Upcoming view — your next 7 days of tasks, grouped by day, at a glance.
Improved: Category cards
Tap a category to expand it. Everything else compacts so you're not staring at a wall of tasks. One tap to switch, one tap to go back.
Improved: My Week
The 7-day activity dots are now right in the streak row — cleaner header, same info, one tap to open your weekly review.
Fixed: Auto night/day
When you picked a color theme AND had auto night/day on, the app was ignoring your theme choice and snapping to plain light/dark. Fixed — your theme is the day mode now.
Fixed: Settings
Settings was blowing open every time you visited. Now it opens clean and you expand what you need.
Fixed: "You have tasks waiting" popup
It was showing up way too often. Cooldown extended — you'll see it much less frequently.
2.1 4 May
Version 2.0 brings Body Doubling, Streak Sharing, and a Home Screen widget.

2.0 1 May
Step 1 — Critical Task Pulse Animation
Tasks marked as Critical now have a subtle breathing glow effect. It pulses on the box-shadow every 2.5 seconds. It stops automatically when the task is completed.
Step 2 — Tab Swipe Haptics
Every time you switch tabs (by swiping or tapping), you get a light haptic tap. It's intentionally lighter than the swipe-to-delete haptic so the two gestures feel physically different.
Step 3 — Streak Milestone Haptics
Hitting a streak milestone now has a unique haptic pattern per milestone:
7 days = 2 medium taps
30 days = 3 medium taps
100 days = 2 heavy pulses
