Gather your friends and play riichi mahjong over Bluetooth. No ads, no sign-up. "Mahjong Together" is Japanese riichi mahjong for people who are already in the same room. It links nearby devices directly over Bluetooth, so there is no account to create and no internet connection to find. There are no ads. When you are on your own, CPU players take the other seats. ■ The table appears wherever you are One device picks "Host", everyone else picks "Join", and the hand begins. Nothing goes through a server, so there is no matchmaking and no waiting. Set a name and it shows at the table for everyone. ■ Play with however many turned up Two of you, three of you: it still works. Two- and three-player mahjong are supported, and CPU players can fill any empty seat. On your own, you play four-player mahjong against three CPUs. CPU strength is Easy, Normal or Hard. "Hard" reads dangerous tiles, holds them back, and judges when to push and when to fold. ■ Lose your connection, keep your seat A seat that drops out is marked "Offline", and play carries on without waiting for it. When that player comes back, they return to the same seat with the same hand. You can get up and walk around; the table survives. ■ The Japanese rules, in full - Riichi, ippatsu, ura dora, furiten - Pon, chi, open / closed / added kan, chankan, rinshan kaihou - Chiitoitsu, kokushi musou, daisangen, suuankou and the other main yakuman - Dora, red fives, ura dora - Honba, riichi sticks, dealer repeats, dealer rotation, ending on a bust - Abortive draws: kyuushu kyuuhai, suufuu renda, suucha riichi, suukaikan, sancha hou - Nagashi mangan, pao (liability payment), no kuikae - Three-player uses 108 tiles with the 2-8 of characters removed (no chi) ■ Easy to read, easy to play Portrait, one hand. The tile you just drew sits apart at the right end of your hand, so you can see it at a glance. Tiles you may not discard are dimmed, and buttons appear the moment you can call. A winning hand shows its yaku with the han and fu breakdown; the match ends with a standings table. Discards, calls and riichi have sounds (you can turn them off). ■ Rules belong to the table Red fives, open tanyao, rounded-up mangan and agari-yame can each be switched on or off. When you play together, the host's settings become the rules for that table. ■ What is free, and what the full version adds Free for good: east games against the CPU, and joining any table a friend hosts. On top of that, you can host three east games with friends for free, so you can try playing together before you decide. Hosting from the fourth time on, plus half games, the "Hard" CPU and rule settings, are unlocked by the full version, a single purchase. Only the host needs to buy it. Everyone who joins plays for free. ■ Nothing leaves the room The whole match runs over a direct Bluetooth link between the devices. No internet connection is used while you play, and nothing about your game is sent anywhere (the store is contacted only when you buy the full version). No user information is collected.
