Decanon is a critical study companion to all 66 books of the Protestant Bible. Every book is broken into short, readable sections, each annotated with what mainstream academic biblical scholarship has documented about the text.
Unlike a devotional Bible app, decanon takes a scholarly perspective. It surfaces what the academic study of religion has been teaching for over a century: the Documentary Hypothesis, archaeology of the ancient Near East, the dating of biblical texts, internal textual contradictions, and the ethical and historical questions modern readers reasonably bring to ancient literature.
The app is designed for religious-studies students, comparative-religion readers, people exploring critical biblical scholarship for the first time, and anyone who wants to engage with the Bible as carefully as they would any other ancient text.
EVERY BOOK, EVERY FLAG

• Historical error
• Racism and ethnocentrism

SOURCES
Content draws on standard reference works in the academic study of religion. Among the core sources informing the app's commentary: Bart D. Ehrman (UNC Chapel Hill), Richard Elliott Friedman (UC San Diego), Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman, and the broader historical-critical scholarly tradition. Every flag includes a specific verse reference so readers can independently verify any claim.
The same material covered in decanon is taught in undergraduate religion courses at universities including Yale, Harvard, UNC, and many others.
