NEW • Authors by country: every author profile shows their country with its flag, in the app's language – and all of them for authors with more than one nationality. Countries that no longer exist, such as Prussia, are listed too. • Filter authors by country: tap the globe next to Sort in Authors to see only the authors from one country. • Enrich authors: under Library management, three steps in one place – Link to Wikidata, Fill in details and Add countries. You first see what was found (Certain, Uncertain or Not found) and only what you approve is saved. • Select several books under On this device and delete them all at once. • Comics downloaded from WebDAV can now be deleted from this device only. • Rate Grim Reader from Settings. Grimmory • Works with any Grimmory account, including users without admin rights, and is ready for Grimmory's new API. • Large audiobooks from your server start playing right away again, without timing out. • Your Grimmory account needs at least download permission to open and read books. New: support for iPhone Duo! Grim Reader now makes full use of the foldable screen. Lists and details sit on either side of the fold, half-open shows the same screens as fully open, and you keep the familiar five tabs. Books read in two columns, one on each half. Also new: • The reading menu now hides by itself after four seconds without a touch – in books, PDFs and comics. It stays put while a panel, the table of contents or the page grid is open, or when VoiceOver is on. • EPUB books now show two columns by default on iPad in landscape. Turned it off yourself? Then it stays off. • Pressing play on an audiobook now opens the Listen screen straight away. • Comics now have their own icon, so you won't mix them up with Series. • More text translated.

New - Delete now works the way you expect. A book's More menu now has "Delete from this device". For a book from your WebDAV server you can also choose "Delete from device and server". If it's your own import, the app warns you first. - More than one author when editing in bulk. When you edit several books at once, you can now give them multiple authors too, such as a writer and an illustrator. Improved - An edited series refreshes straight away, and a book without a volume number no longer gets a made-up one. - The app notices sooner when your NAS goes offline or comes back, including when you switch Wi-Fi networks. - If a file can't be updated when renaming an author or publisher, the app tells you which book and why. - Language is now also saved in comics (CBZ). - A damaged EPUB or comic is rejected cleanly, and your library stays intact if an update fails halfway. - Plus many smaller fixes.

New - Grim Reader in German. If your iPhone or iPad is set to German, the whole app now speaks German. - CBR comics. Import a CBR, or open one from WebDAV or your own OPDS catalogue. The app converts it once, and from then on it reads like any other comic. - Manga reads right to left. A comic marked as manga turns its pages the right way automatically. You can also choose the reading direction for each book. - Reading stats. Under Settings you can see how much you read and listen: your reading time per day and per month, your most-read authors and formats, and your reading streak. Everything stays on your device. - One calm reading menu in every reader. EPUB, PDF and comics now share the same compact floating bar with bigger buttons. Close panels with the close button or by swiping down. - Choose your read-aloud voice. Pick a voice for each language, or let the app pick the best voice on your device. Play and pause now share one large button. - Footnotes in a popup. Tap a footnote and the note appears over the page, and you keep your place. - Audiobooks from your OPDS catalogue, including books in several parts. If a download is interrupted, it picks up where it stopped. - Sort and filter the way your catalogue offers, such as Newest or Popular. - Sharper comics. Turn on "Sharpen" to make low-resolution scans look crisper. Improved - A new read-aloud voice applies straight away, even if you change it while paused. - Comics that were wrongly reported as "too large" open again. - Books that are only for sale or for loan are no longer offered as downloads. - A downloaded PDF keeps its cover. - Plus many smaller fixes.

New • Bring your own book server. Grim Reader now works with many more OPDS catalogs: Grimmory, Komga, Calibre (its own content server, including login), Stump, Ubooquity, COPS and Project Gutenberg. The server address is enough, because the app finds the right catalog address by itself. Both OPDS 1 and OPDS 2.0 are supported. • Catalogs match the rest of the app. Books appear as covers in a grid, or as a list if you prefer. Rows like "Most popular" show up as shelves with "See all". • Catalog books get a full book page. You get a large cover, the description, subjects and book details. There are cards for the author and the series, and you can tap the author, a subject or the series. • Comics (CBZ) from a catalog can be downloaded and read. • One comic reader for everything. You can pinch to zoom and double-tap to zoom in or out. A page counter and a slider sit at the bottom. Large comics open instantly. • Read comics as a continuous vertical scroll. There is also a variant without gaps between pages, for webtoons. • Read aloud in the book's own language. An English book now gets an English voice. • A calmer, more consistent design for books, series and authors, with clearer selection on iPad. Fixed • Grimmory now receives your reading position in the standard format, so its web reader and other apps can pick up where you left off. After a lost connection, your progress is sent automatically. • On iPad, a book no longer moves back one page each time you reopen it or return to the app. • Swiping in a comic always lands on one full page. Pages no longer stop halfway or jump around. • A book from an OPDS 1 catalog such as Project Gutenberg no longer crashes the app. • Descriptions from a Calibre catalog are no longer empty. A wrong password is now reported as such. • Searching with characters like & or + (for example "C++") now works. • Covers from catalogs that require login stay visible. • Missing English translations have been added.

New • Search inside a book: find text in any EPUB or PDF and jump straight to the match. Step through all results with previous and next. • Better PDF reading: use the progress bar, page thumbnails and the table of contents, and choose between paging and continuous vertical scrolling. • Sleep timer for audiobooks: stop after a set time or at the end of the chapter. • On iPad, the reader shows two columns in landscape when you turn that on. SUBJECTS • Browse your library by subject — pulled straight from your EPUBs, PDFs and comics • Merge variants like "Science Fiction", "science fiction" and "SF" under one name; your choice survives a rescan • Delete subjects you don't want, and optionally remove them from the book files themselves • Pin your favourite subjects to the home screen PUBLISHERS • A section of their own, with every book per publisher and a bit of their history • Merge different spellings of the same publisher under one name • Look up missing details online, just like for authors GETTING YOUR LIBRARY IN ORDER • Add several books at once, or a whole folder or USB drive, with progress you can follow • Let the app find books with missing details and fill them in • Track down damaged EPUBs • Books with more than one author can now be edited, and "Christie, Agatha" counts as one name again READING • The reading controls have been rebuilt: one close button in a fixed spot, a panel that always fits the screen, and a slider that runs through the whole book • The table of contents shows subheadings and actually jumps to the chapter you pick • Your reading position is kept more reliably, even if you close a book quickly or lock the screen • Audiobooks no longer skip chapters BUGS fixed many bugs got flattened in this release, including: • A server address without https:// now works the way the screen promises • Network problems tell you what went wrong, not just that something did • You can send your own HTTP headers, for example for Cloudflare Zero Trust. this is experimental and currently only for the grimmer server option. The layout has been cleaned up too: without a Grimmory server, the options that need one disappear from the menu, and every book now shows where it came from. Plus a long list of fixes for books that vanished, came back, or showed each other's details — and noticeably faster lists.
