While the recipes are extremely well-organized and easy to find, have beautiful photos, allow you to create a shopping list (great feature)…and in most cases, turn out to be delicious gems that you prefer to covet, there are as many that lack enough important explanations and cooking directions for novices or beginners. I am not a beginner, and therefore have been able to discern vague writing, poor measuring or questionable techniques. However, if you don’t cook on a regular basis, or better, if you don’t have a fair knowledge of recipe books, then your results easily may be subpar. At times, I question whether many of these recipes have gone through any type of test kitchen! I believe that the NYT should do better, and in fact, I expect better. Think King Author’s Baker’s Companion. That’s the level of recipe quality I want to consistently discover in the NYT. I am a proud subscriber, and truly stand behind their cooking app. But in an age where mediocrity is the latest TikTok trend, I turn to the NYT for something more tailored, much more dependable, and frankly, a higher standard of.
