“This app is home to the best journalism in the world. If I could only afford to pay for one news source, The Economist would be that source.”
“Great app, excellent journalism! The Economist is wonderful. The content is interesting and relevant and the reporting is superlative. Equally impressive is the drive to stay relevant by presenting media in multiple formats, from print to podcasts and short videos.”
“Impeccable journalism with an app to match. The Economist doesn’t need my endorsement of the quality of their journalism. It speaks for itself. Rather, I’ll comment that their app is well-designed and refreshing to use…I love being able to easily download entire editions, listen to articles with real narrators and search for past articles.”

The Economist is by far the best experience I have ever had with a newspaper. This review however focuses purely on the app.I had an issue that did not let me use the app on an old version of IOS on my iPhone X. I posted a critical review and, within two days, the developer answered saying that the issue had been identified and fixed.Furthermore, small details like remembering where I've left off in an article, marking the ones I've read, and the fact that you can view the print edition in an intuitive way in the app - not as a scan of the paper but as the collection of articles - make this one of the best user experiences in any app I currently use.The only gripe I have is that there is no synchronisation between the app and a browser instance logged in with the same account. I read quite often from my laptop and find it somewhat irritating, though not worth a reduction in stars, that the articles I've read there aren't marked by the mobile app as read.Which other major newspaper cares this much about its users? Or even, which other subscription-based app with a major user base in general? They are few and far apart, dare I say.

Save position in article
miksteri
I have been hoping for a feature where the app would remember my position in an article. Sometimes I don’t read articles in one go, and finding my place in the weekly issue takes always some time. Othewise great app.
Makes sense

It is pure luxury to be a subscriber of The Economist, a newspaper that makes sense in a world that does not (make sense)

Developer Response
We are currently investigating an issue specifically affecting devices running iOS 17. As a workaround, please update your device to the latest software version or, if possible, use an alternative device with a newer OS in the meantime. We are also rolling out a permanent fix in app version 4.80, which should be available in the App Store soon. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
We've made general improvements and fixed bugs for a smoother experience.
