Start using the Lingvis app for learning either of the national languages of Finland. It is a free learning app for those who are eager to learn the Finnish or Swedish language through current media content from Finland.
** The alternative to Yle Kielikoulu Yle Språkskolan **
After the unfortunate termination of the best free learning resource, introducing migrants to Finland to the riches of public service, we can now offer an alternative app with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland. If you registered an account with Yle Kielikoulu Yle Språkskolan it can and should be used with this new app too. It allows you to continue building on the same learning profile.
Based on your chosen language skill level (A1-C2), users can navigate five content categories between Articles, YouTube Videos, Books and Podcasts, to further develop their language knowledge and understanding of culture and society in Finland.
Main features of the Lingvis app include:
* Integrated dictionaries from Finnish to 18 and from Swedish to 32 common immigrant languages in Finland.
* save words from media texts into your personal word list that you can access through your personal learning profile page to revise and turn into Flashcards or Multi-choice exercises.
* Personal Learning Profile, where the App monitors your learned vocabulary corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2), offering text markup according to learning relevance
GREEN - words you should already know;
YELLOW - words to learn now;
RED - words to learn later.
* Gamification both with streak, reading/learning points and activity monitoring where you can set personal daily goals
* The Simplified articles feature will allow you to adapt a wide range of news articles to your language skill level using AI. Just open the news article with the “simplifyable” icon in reading mode using the magic wand button and then tap the “simplify” button. Please note that simplification using AI occasionally might affect the meaning somewhat. For fact check, always go to the original version of the article.
The Lingvis app can also help you master grammar. When you look up words, it is showing their grammar properties in badges inside the popup. You can tap badges to read explanations for that specific grammar property, or you can read them full-screen and explore the full grammar resource. You can also select a grammar rule in the grammar's Contents, and the app will find and mark all examples of that rule in all texts that you read.
We believe access to knowledge should be free and so is our app. No hidden costs and no advertisements to disturb your learning experience.
