Capoflip is the single-purpose chord-chart tool every guitar and ukulele player wishes their songbook came with: paste a chord chart in any key, pick the key you can actually sing in, and Capoflip tells you exactly where to put your capo so the chords land on easy open shapes.
WHY CAPOFLIP
- That random chord chart you found has an F#m and a C#m and you cannot play it. Capoflip moves the song to a fingering position you can actually finger.
- "Use a capo" advice is everywhere; "use a capo on THIS specific fret because your chart has THESE specific chords" is not.
- One-tap transpose with proper enharmonic spelling. Capoflip writes Eb (not D#) in a flat key, and F# (not Gb) in a sharp key - the way a real songbook does.
HOW IT WORKS
- Paste any chord chart. Capoflip's parser handles both [bracketed] chord syntax and the classic "chord names above lyric lines" layout. It will not mistake "A bird flew by" for an A-major chord.
- Capoflip detects the original key from the chord set. Tap the +/- buttons to transpose to any new key, or pick from the row of key chips. Every chord on the page updates in place.
- Hit Suggest Capo Positions and Capoflip ranks the top three capo placements by how many of your transposed chords land on easy open shapes. Lower frets win ties (so you do not park the capo on fret 9 when fret 2 works).
WHAT YOU GET
- Side-by-side original + transposed chart view, with the chord names highlighted inline so you can still see where they sit over the lyrics.
- Tap any chord to see its fingering diagram, with finger numbers, on guitar or ukulele.
- 8 public-domain song charts to play with right away: Amazing Grace, Twinkle Twinkle, House of the Rising Sun, Scarborough Fair, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Oh Shenandoah, Danny Boy, and Wayfaring Stranger.
- A bundled fingering library of 40+ guitar shapes and 20+ ukulele shapes covering every common chord quality (major, minor, 7, maj7, m7, sus2, sus4, add9).
- History tab - save the charts you transpose, mark favorites, jump back into any of them in their last-used key.
- Instrument toggle in Settings: switch between guitar (6 strings, EADGBe) and ukulele (4 strings, GCEA) and the capo recommender uses the right open-chord set automatically.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Capoflip has no account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no subscription, and no developer backend. The chord parser, the transposer, the capo engine, the fingering library, and your saved charts all live on your device and stay there. The PrivacyInfo manifest declares only the standard UserDefaults reason code required for local preferences.
ONE-TIME PURCHASE
Capoflip is a single $0.99 purchase. No in-app purchases. No upsells. No daily limits. The features above are the whole product.
GREAT FOR
- Worship leaders printing charts a week in advance and trying to put them in the singer's key on the day.
- Beginner guitar players who can play C, G, D, Am, Em - and would like that to be the whole songbook.
- Ukulele players adapting guitar charts (capo recommender handles instrument-specific open-chord sets).
- Songwriters demoing in one key and rehearsing in another.
- Anyone who has tried to find a "capo on fret 3" tab and given up.
Paste a chart, pick a key, find your capo. That is the whole app.

Version 1.1
Key Context Panel — Every transposed chart now has a collapsible theory section showing the relative key (e.g. Am for C major), the parallel key, and all seven diatonic triads for the current key. Tap any chord chip to open its fingering diagram instantly.
Voice Range Advisor — Singers can now find the best key for their voice. Open the Capo Positions sheet and tap "Find key for my voice." Pick your voice type (Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Mezzo-soprano, or Soprano) and get the top 3 target keys ranked by how well the tonic sits in your comfortable vocal range, weighted by how many open chords fall under your fingers.
ChordPro Export — Export any transposed chart as a standards-compliant ChordPro file (importable into OnSong, GigBook, Chord!!, and most musician apps) or as plain text for Messages, Notes, or email. Tap "Export chart" at the bottom of the transposed view, preview the output, copy to clipboard, or share via the iOS share sheet.
