The icon is new. Ask when something was, in Search or of Siri, and the answer is taken from the days already on this iPhone. Photographs of a place are framed the way a person's are. When an evening hands a day back, you can answer from the Lock Screen. What you say is kept as a thought on that day. The first evening home after a trip, there is one question: what do you want to remember. The numbers Health already recorded sit beside the day.

People can now have a birthday, and a date of death. Set them on their page, and they are kept on the contact card too. Until they turn 18, their days say how old they were. With Yesterkeep Plus, the anniversary of a death may bring back one ordinary day you spent with them. Hold a face with no name. The photograph it came from is usually enough. A day asks about one you keep seeing, and the timeline asks once your photographs have been read. Answer, and it stops asking. Give the face a name, and you see the days it now stands on. Someone can also leave a day that never had a photograph. On Places, tap a pin and the place opens. The whole map is one tap away. The row shows a photograph taken there. The first iCloud backup starts while the app is open, on Wi-Fi. After that, it sends what changed when you leave. Small changes can go over cellular, up to a daily limit. The larger ones wait for Wi-Fi. A backup your other iPhone has just finished is left as it is. A locked iPhone no longer mislays a week of walking, and an old day can say how far you went on foot. If Health was already allowed, “Allow more from Health” in What builds your days adds the rest. Faces stay in the picture, on the timeline and on People. Photographs fade in. Delete one, and it leaves no empty space — on the timeline, on People, or in Favorites. A receipt is not the day, and neither is a screenshot. If the first photograph of a week is gone, the others are still there. Scrolling brings the picture on the screen, not the whole file behind it.

The first reading of your photos now shows how far it has got, and continues overnight while the iPhone is on charge. Health is read while the phone is still unlocked. On the timeline, the year sits beside the name. Tap it, and you land there. A photograph names the city it was taken in. A day without a picture is still a day. An empty cover is paper, not a made-up photograph. People show faces. "It's me" binds your own. A place is the nearest one, and the day under it says why. A day written on this iPhone no longer vanishes at the next launch. The lock now covers widgets, Apple Watch and Siri.
