The shared 2.56.1 core: a vault can carry a name of its own. • Rename Vault… (the ••• sheet, All commands…) or the Vault name field in Settings names a vault for the drawer and the vault switcher. The folder keeps its name; an empty name goes back to it. The name lives in the vault's own vault.json, so a vault named on the desktop shows that name here too. • The vault switcher marks the vault that is open by its folder, whatever it is called, and shows each vault by the name it goes by. • A Markdown table in a note converts into a database the note links to (Convert Table to Database… in the command palette). • Settings search reaches every setting, including where new tasks go, and a hit opens the tab the setting is on. • A task added from the calendar panel joins the note's Tasks section. • In Preview, a code block inside a task stays under the task's text. • Undo after the open note changed on disk (a sync, for one) no longer saves a text nobody wrote. • Help reads as one page. • App core 2.56.1, shared with the desktop and Android apps. The shared 2.55.0 core, and nothing keyboard-only left on the phone. • The New note form (Search, then the Create "what you typed" row) no longer shows keyboard hints in its footer. It holds Back and Create and nothing else. • Nothing on screen names a Vim editor key any more: no ring around the sidebar after a tap, no letter chip on the row under the cursor, no j/k strips in the connections and comments panels, no letter badges under a comment. Vim mode is a desktop feature this app never turns on. • Renaming a note from its title to a name that an older, since-moved note once had now goes through instead of failing silently, and a rename that cannot happen says why. • Move… offers your own folders by their names, with the notes root on top. • App core 2.55.0, shared with the desktop and Android apps. Search creates the note you typed, plus app core 2.54.1. • Search notes (the circle, then Search) now ends its list with Create "what you typed". Tap it and a New note form opens with the name filled in: pick the folder (type a path such as projects/ideas, or leave it in Inbox), add tags from the vault's list or type new ones, then tap Create. The note opens with its heading and its tags on the line under it. If a note with that name already lives in that folder, the form says so and lets you change the name or open the existing note instead. • The first tap on Create counts even while a tag is still typed in the Tags field and not yet added. It used to take a second tap. • The form's header keeps its "in Inbox" label clear of the Cancel button. • Following a wikilink no longer leaves its target sitting in the footer of the note it opened. • Leaving Reading mode opens the editor at the part you were reading instead of where the cursor last was. • With Live Preview off, the YAML header at the top of a note is shown as plain text, not in heading type. • A note whose text returns to exactly what is on disk is not written again, so its modified time and the sync stay untouched. The app launches on iOS 27 again, Favorites come to the home screen, plus app core 2.53.0. • Fixes a crash at launch on iOS 27. Versions 1.10.0 and 1.10.1 quit immediately on iOS 27 because they had not adopted Apple's scene-based app life cycle. Your notes were never affected. • A Favorites section on the home screen lists your favorite notes under Recent. Add or remove the open note with the circle button, then More, then Add to Favorites, or long-press a note in Browse. Favorites are the vault's list, shared with the desktop app. • Long-press a folder or database in Browse and choose Move to… to move it into another folder. Open tabs, folder icons, favorites, and custom order come along. • Tapping a heading or block link in Reading mode now scrolls to it in Reading mode instead of switching to Edit. Back returns to where you were reading. • Dismiss keyboard now keeps the keyboard down for the tap that follows. • Each note keeps its own undo history when you switch between notes, and renaming or moving the note you are editing keeps your place and your undo history. • In the wikilink picker, typing | accepts the highlighted note and starts the display text. • Searches opened from the command palette keep your typing in the search field instead of the note. • Opening Settings no longer raises the keyboard. • The template editor stacks the editor above the preview on the phone. • Cloud: when two devices changed the vault's settings, sync asks right away and lets you pick a side per setting. A sync that fails midway keeps what already landed instead of repeating it on every retry. • A task added to a past daily note after today's note was opened now rolls over on the next open. • Settings > About gains Version details with a Copy button for bug reports. • iPad: each note can remember its own side panels (turn off Keep panels when switching notes in Settings > Editor), the note stays readable when panels do not fit, and Escape ends a Vim block edit. Databases in Browse get a proper menu. • Long-press a database in Browse to rename or delete it. A long press used to go straight to the delete confirmation. • Folders keep their menu: Pin, Rename, Delete. Local and iCloud vaults still work without an account.

Safer file moves, smarter Cloud recovery, and app core 2.51.0. • Moving, renaming, trashing, or deleting notes and folders now finishes completely or not at all. Comments and database files travel with their folder. • A menu, gesture, or confirmation left open while you switch vaults no longer acts on the new vault. • If a linked Cloud vault is deleted from another device, the phone unlinks only that vault, keeps your local notes, and preserves unsent conflict drafts. • Typing [[ inside code no longer opens the wikilink picker. • Bracketed text that is not a link reads as ordinary prose. • Rolling a daily note forward no longer creates empty tasks. • Forwarded and cancelled tasks stay off every Kanban board. • Templates can show a live modified date that follows the note's last save. • Notes keep pointing at attachments after they are renamed or moved. Cloud uploads and recovery improvements. • Fixed attachment uploads that could fail after sending an empty file. • Keep your Cloud sign-in when the app restarts. • Receive incoming edits sooner while the app is open. • Update public notes from Cloud Settings using the same link. • Give large publications more time to finish and explain uncertain results clearly. • See restored text and images without reopening the note after a backup restore. • Keep both full versions available when reviewing a conflict. • Show accurate file-size limits and recovery guidance. ZenNotes 1.9.9 keeps Cloud sync out of your way while you write. • Views stay put when nothing changed. A sync that finds nothing new leaves your vault views alone; a batch of pulled changes refreshes them once. • Typing keeps its turn. The sync scan and large attachments are processed in small chunks with pauses for the interface, so keystrokes land while a sync runs. • Conflict review reads the real file. Both versions of a conflicted note are loaded in full, even when the file was cached as unchanged or moved to a new path. • Safer caching. A file with an unknown timestamp, or one that changes while it is being read, is read again instead of being trusted from an old fingerprint. No new permissions or data collection. ZenNotes 1.9.8 puts your notes on the Home Screen and brings app core 2.46 to the phone. • New Note widget. One tap starts a note in your Inbox with the title ready to type. Small on the Home Screen; on iOS 16 and later also as a Lock Screen circle, rectangle, or inline line. • Recent Notes widget. Your pinned notes first, then the ones you edited last, with a + to start a new one. Tap a row to open it. Medium or large. • Today's Tasks widget. What's due today, overdue, or waiting for a date, overdue first, with the count in the header. Tap a task to land on its line; tap the header for the Tasks view. • The widgets wear your theme and update within seconds of a change, so the Home Screen stays current without opening the app. Underneath, app core 2.46: • Comment threads with names. A reply files under the comment it answers, every entry shows who wrote it, and an assistant connected over MCP on your desktop can answer in the same threads; its replies arrive on the phone through your synced vault, signed with its name. • Pick any date from the @ menu. Date… opens a calendar; Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow and Now stay one tap away. • Saved Tasks filters. Name a filter once and recall it from the chips under the Tasks header. • The Kanban Folder board gives every note folder its own column, or the children of one folder you name. • Display math renders inside callouts, and Typst formulas match KaTeX's size, with square-root bars in the text color. ZenNotes 1.9.7 is a phone editing release: six things that got in the way when writing with one thumb, fixed, plus app core 2.45. • Autocorrect and the predictive bar work in the note body. The editor used to switch off iOS autocorrect, predictive text, and sentence capitalization for the whole note; they now behave as they do in any text field. Titles and code blocks are unchanged. • Bullet, Checkbox, and Heading work on an empty line. Tap one on a fresh line and the marker appears, caret after it. • The caret stays above the keyboard toolbar in long notes, instead of hiding under it until you added blank lines. • Long-press any note for its options (Pin, Rename, Move to…, Copy wikilink, Archive, Delete), swipe left to archive or delete, swipe right to pin. In every list now: Home, Quick Notes, Tags, Archive, Trash. Quick Notes can finally be deleted. • New Start screen setting in Settings → Appearance: open on Home instead of where you left off. • Home no longer bounces back to Tasks a second after you tap it. • App core 2.45: arrow keys move through the @, / and [[ menus again on a hardware keyboard, and a self-hosted vault behind a proxy without WebSockets stays current. ZenNotes 1.9.6 turns Cloud conflicts into clear choices and brings the app core from 2.38 to 2.44. • When two devices change the same note, ZenNotes merges the safe edits on its own and asks only about the overlapping words. The versions are labelled This device, Other device, and Last synced; pick a wording per change, edit the combined note, or keep one complete version. No more numbered (cloud conflict) copies. • First sync is honest: with no shared earlier version, both complete notes are shown and you choose to keep either, keep both under a name you pick, or combine them yourself. • Finish later without losing anything. An unresolved note keeps its local version in the vault and its other versions and your draft in app storage, while unrelated notes keep syncing. Its tasks stay out of Tasks, Calendar, and Kanban until you decide. • Coming back online after the desktop saved a note several times no longer parks conflict copies or re-uploads the phone's stale version. • Sync incomplete now names each file Cloud could not apply, with the reason and an Open button. • Editor fixes: the wikilink picker keeps a link's section and alias, a pasted video no longer takes the keyboard away, Auto-close Markdown leaves code alone, and the bin icon on a note opened from Trash deletes it for good. Find the queue in Settings → Cloud or through Review Cloud Sync Conflicts in the command palette. No new permissions or data collection. Local and iCloud vaults work without an account.

ZenNotes 1.9.5 fixes attachments and remote vault access. • Attached files now go into your vault's assets folder and use stable vault-relative links, so attachments opened from nested notes point to the right file. • Self-hosted uploads now arrive as their original bytes instead of larger, unreadable base64 text. • Imported filenames are cleaned before they are written or linked, preventing unsafe paths and broken wikilinks. • On iPad, Settings → Vault now includes Manage…, restoring access to Add Remote Vault…. The iPhone quick switch is unchanged. No new permissions or data collection.

ZenNotes 1.9.4 gets big files into the Cloud — and catches up with two features the Android app got first. • Files over 5 MB — photos, scans, PDFs, voice memos — now sync to ZenNotes Cloud from your iPhone. They go straight to storage through a signed upload address, the same way the desktop app sends them; your account token never travels with the file, and a failed transfer is cleaned up and retried on the next pass. • When Cloud declines a file — vault full, plan capacity reached, over the size limit — Settings → Cloud names the file and the reason instead of a generic sync failure. • Attach any file to a note: a paperclip on the keyboard toolbar opens the Files picker (photos, PDFs, anything, multi-select). The file lands in your vault and the embed or link goes in at the cursor. • Swipe gestures are yours to configure (Settings → Appearance): map a left or right flick over a note to next/previous note, Browse, or the outline, and pull down from the top of a note for a quick action — the command palette, search, or a new note. • The app core moves to 2.38: an In progress column on the Status board, the Publish icon only once you're signed in to Cloud, smooth typing next to mermaid diagrams, and a Reflow Paragraph command for hard-wrapped text. No new permissions or data collection. Local-first storage and iCloud Drive work with or without a ZenNotes Cloud account.

ZenNotes 1.9.3 makes iCloud vaults live. • Edits from your other devices now arrive on their own — while the app is open, or the moment you return to it. Previously iCloud needed a nudge from the Files app to sync; ZenNotes now keeps the sync engine engaged itself and refreshes the vault when changes land. • Tip: the Browse drawer also supports pull-to-refresh whenever you want to force a pass by hand. • The app core moves to 2.37 with the desktop line's latest fixes, including sharper search ranking and table-editing shortcuts. No new permissions or data collection.

ZenNotes 1.9.2 is the catch-up release: everything the app core learned recently arrives on iPhone and iPad at once. • Atlas — your vault as a map. Open it from the command palette: pinch to zoom, drag to pan, tap a note to focus it, tap again to open it. • Find in note. A search button on the keyboard toolbar opens find-and-replace inside the open note — the keyboard stays up and matches highlight as you type. • Strikethrough joins the formatting row, working on a selection or as a toggle at the cursor. • Block links: [[Note^block-id]] jumps to the exact block, not just the note. • One task filter shared by the list, the calendar, and the board. • A new Layout setting lets iPads keep the desktop layout (or big phones keep the phone layout). • About now links to ZenNotes on GitHub, and the two mismatched Done buttons became one. • Cloud: delete a linked vault from your device, clearer sync status, large attachments stream straight to storage, and if a vault's settings change on two devices, ZenNotes asks which side wins. No new permissions, services, or data collection. Local-first storage and iCloud Drive continue to work with or without a ZenNotes Cloud account.

ZenNotes 1.9.1 fixes the remaining dark background that could appear around Apple's rounded keyboard on newer iOS versions. When the keyboard opens, the exposed area underneath it now matches your active ZenNotes light or dark theme instead of appearing as a separate black block. The keyboard remains Apple's system keyboard. This update adds no new permissions, services, or data collection changes.

Two visual distractions are gone in ZenNotes 1.9. • The ensō inside the round navigation button now has a clean, truly transparent background — no more faint gray rectangle above the brushstroke • On newer iOS versions, the native keyboard is edge-to-edge again instead of appearing as a rounded panel over a black block The App Store icon is unchanged, and the keyboard remains Apple's system keyboard. This release adds no new permissions, services, or data collection. Local-first remains the default. Local storage and iCloud Drive work as before, with or without a ZenNotes Cloud account.

The gestures you expect from a notes app now work all over ZenNotes. • Swipe right on a note or folder in Browse to pin it to the top • Swipe left on a note to archive or delete it • Flick left or right in a note to move through your list, pinned first • Pull down in Browse to fetch iCloud changes and shared captures • Pinch in a note to make the text bigger or smaller • Rotating to landscape now keeps the phone layout instead of flipping to a desktop one • iPads — iPad mini included — keep the full layout fullscreen, and switch to the phone layout in Split View Swipes, flicks, pinches, and pulls all coexist with scrolling and long-press, so the right gesture wins and interrupted ones snap back harmlessly. Local-first remains the default. Local storage and iCloud Drive work as before, with or without a ZenNotes Cloud account.

Organizing your notes is now much easier to find. • Create folders straight from Browse — including folders inside folders • Long-press a note to rename, move, archive, or delete it; long-press a folder to rename or delete it • Rename a folder from your iPhone or iPad for the first time • Picking a destination folder no longer buries the list under the keyboard • The Tags screen explains how tags are made, and new vaults start with one • The welcome note now covers organizing with tags and folders The organizing tools that were buried are now obvious, while nested folder creation and folder rename are new on mobile.

New in ZenNotes 1.5 Attachments open where they should, your vault catches up on what changed while you were away, and a checklist no longer has to be a task. • Attachments open in the right app — tapping a .zip, .docx, or other non-previewable file now opens the share sheet, so it can go straight to the app that handles it, or Quick Look. Images and PDFs still open in place. • Deleting an attachment can no longer lose it — the restore record is now written before the file moves, so if anything goes wrong the attachment stays exactly where it was. Restoring from Trash is safer too. • See what changed while you were away — reopening the app now refreshes your settings, attachments, databases, comments, and the note you have open, not just the note list. A vault edited on your Mac looks right the moment you come back, and unsaved edits on this device are never overwritten. • Not every checkbox is a task — a packing list or a README checklist no longer has to show up in Tasks. Add "tasks: false" to a note's frontmatter to opt it out, or long-press a folder in the sidebar and choose "Exclude from Tasks". The setting travels with the vault, so a folder you excluded on your Mac stays excluded here. • Choose how notes open — Edit or Read, your call, and switching to Preview keeps the spot you were editing. • Nested lists finally look nested — every level steps a full tab width, with indent guides down the page. • Database cells can find and link your notes — start typing in a cell and pick the note you mean. • Self-hosted vaults: full attachment management — duplicate, delete, restore and purge attachments on your own ZenNotes server, not just local vaults. Needs server 2.24 or newer. • Rendering fixes — callout titles keep their links, math, and color; display math renders inside table cells; frontmatter survives editing intact; favorites keep their custom icons and colors; and the sidebar stops fighting your scroll. • The About screen now shows the version you're actually running. iOS 15 is now the minimum. No device loses support — iOS 15 runs on everything iOS 14 did. Same rules as always: plain markdown files in a folder you own, no account, no server, nothing tracked.

New in ZenNotes 1.4 Tasks grow up: an in-progress state, subtask progress, and the full task menu under your finger — plus diagrams that draw while you write. • Mark a task in progress — a task can now be "doing", not just done or not done. Write "- [/]" in any note, or long-press a task and choose "Mark in progress". The editor, the Tasks list, the kanban board, and the calendars all show the same half-filled box, and it's the same plain-text marker ZenNotes desktop reads and writes. • Long-press a task for the full menu — mark done or in progress, set due today/tomorrow/next week, set a priority, forward the task to another note, or delete it. It's the same menu desktop opens with right-click, now a press away in the list, the board, and the calendar. • Parent tasks show their progress — indent tasks beneath a task and the parent counts how many subtasks are done, following your list's structure. And archiving a note now retires its tasks, so finished work stops crowding Today. • Kanban keeps your arrangement — cards stay in the order you dragged them when you leave the board and come back, and a card moved onto Today is due today, not tomorrow. • Diagrams draw while you write — a mermaid block renders right in the editor as soon as you move past it, matching your theme. Launch stays light: the diagram engine still loads only when a diagram actually appears. • Type "->" and get "→" — text replacements, on by default and yours to edit in Settings > Editor > Text replacements. Add your own pairs; they only fire while typing. • Safer self-hosted databases — a flaky connection to your own ZenNotes server can no longer be mistaken for "this database has no schema" (which could overwrite the real one). Errors now surface as errors, and databases work even against older servers. • Also: editor tab size is configurable, heading labels stay readable at every width, and vim motions follow wrapped lines.

New in ZenNotes 1.3 The app remembers where you were, launches get faster, and renames get smarter. • Pick up where you left off — reopening ZenNotes now brings back the note (or view) that was on screen when you left. If you left from the Home screen, you get Home. Switching between apps or coming back the next day no longer means finding your note again. • Renames keep your title in step — if a note starts with a "# Heading", renaming the note updates that heading to match. An existing heading is rewritten, never invented — delete the heading and no rename will put it back. Turn it off any time in Settings ("Sync title heading on rename"). • Faster launch — the diagram engine no longer loads at startup. It loads the first time a diagram actually appears, so opening the app and jotting a note got noticeably lighter. • Renamed system folders — vaults that relocate their built-in folders (a feature of ZenNotes desktop 2.20 — your inbox can live in a folder named "01 - Entry", for example) now work correctly on iPhone and iPad. A shared iCloud vault files notes the same way on your Mac and your phone. • Fixes — moving kanban cards quickly no longer loses a move, opening a daily note no longer switches the calendar panel on everywhere, and buttons no longer squish their labels in tight rows.
