Description

Intolerances: Food list & scan function

Do you want to know whether a food is compatible with fructose malabsorption, lactose, sorbitol or histamine intolerance? Or would you like to find out whether it is gluten-free or suitable for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)? Then: Ask Ingrid!

Ingrid is your companion in everyday life with food intolerances and special dietary requirements. She will assess your tolerance and indicate the amount of fructose, lactose, sorbitol, gluten, histamine or FODMAPs in your food. You can search for foods such as vegetables, meat or fruit, but also scan packaged foods. With her news feed in the app, Ingrid keeps you up to date with the latest nutrition news.

Download the app for free and set your personal intolerances. Ingrid shows you all the important information and her assessments at a glance. These are based on scientific findings and were developed in collaboration with the experts at the European nmi-portal. Ingrid also shows you how well individual foods are tolerated by other sufferers.

Try out "Ask Ingrid": You have 2 scans and 2 queries per day free of charge.

Scientific data
***
The data comes from the nmi-portal. This project has been conducting research in the field of intolerances for many years and has created the basis for Ingrid with the nmi-database. The data used all comes from scientific research, has been evaluated by those affected and checked by nutrition experts.

***
Community rating: people affected rate tolerance
***
However, Ingrid also has a very special feature: All users can document their personal tolerance of certain foods. This data is analyzed anonymously by Ingrid and made available to all other users. This means that you not only see the nutritional data on tolerance, but also the assessment of hundreds of thousands of other people affected. Thanks to these two independent evaluation criteria, you can design your diet ideally and individually and finally enjoy it again without discomfort.

***
Only compatible foods
***
Ingrid also automatically shows you an individualized list of foods that you can tolerate. Because Ingrid is not about prohibitions, but about a better attitude to life. And that includes a balanced diet.

A few good, unique features, but needs more work

As reviewers have said, the app doesn't unfortunately open in the same language as your device. I had the same problem of it starting in German and being unsure about how to change to English. In the end, I worked it out by going into the settings and kind of guessing - it's the second row from the bottom in settings! Having said, that, the odd word was still coming up in German after switching to English ...

I like the fact the app gathers data from other people's experiences - a unique feature that will become more useful over time. The data on additives (E-numbers) is also pretty handy, as I haven't found another histamine intolerance app/site that lets you actually search for additives, rather than having to scroll down a very long list. It's not complete, of course (as so may additives exist and they haven't all been tested), but still, useful.

I was less impressed by the food data. For example, I'd like to see bread (a very basic one!) and more dairy alternatives added to the list. Also, I didn't trust the IBS/FODMAP data, as there were a lot of ratings that contracted the Monash app, which is the official source of FODMAP info and based on recent scientific tests.

Overall, as it stands, I would only use this to check additives, but I'm interested to see how it develops.
