Learn your favorite songs without tabs or sheet music.
Whether you play for the world or yourself, all musicians need a good ear for harmony, melody, and rhythm. Using the songs in your music collection, Capo guesses the beats, chords, and key of songs to help you break them down to their individual parts. Capo’s unique technology helps you to learn your favorites quickly as you improve your ear along the way.
Capo is simple and yet so, so good, even the professionals use it:
“Capo is AMAZING!!! Very clutch. Especially when parts are kinda tough in the mix that I can’t make out easily. With other apps you lose quality, this still sounds correct.”
- Omar Edwards: Keyboardist/Music Director for Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye West, Eminem, and more
“When I sat down and started using Capo for the first time, I was amazed at how big a punch this little app packs! It's intuitive, convenient, and high-quality.”
- Rebecca Lovell: Lead Vocals, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Piano for Larkin Poe

Excellent for working out guitar solo parts
Rtdradiol
This application is aimed primarily at guitarists and players of other fretted instruments, but check out the videos on the developers site for other things people are actually using it for (education, singing, inspiration for composing). It’s excellent for working out guitar solo parts - you can use your ears, the spectral analysis, or both. The isolation engine allows you to home in on the guitar part (or indeed any other part) on stereo recordings making it easier to hear. When you have it worked out, then you can mute the solo part and play along (at whatever speed you want) effectively creating your own -1 track. Export your work as a midi file, then import it into a DAW or music writing software - hours of fun! Regarding the negative comments, I think some allowance has to be made for the difficulty for ANY program to present you with an accurate set of chords from the cocophony of a band mix. Also, it’s a bit naive to expect it to load music you don’t own (duh!), so it won’t work with streamed music (unless you’ve bought it AND dowloaded onto your computer). Your CD collection is fair game though.

Thank you so much for your thorough review of Capo 3. It's so nice when users *get* our app...and the limitations with loading music you don't own! I can't tell you how many 1-star reviews we get from people who except to load DRM-protected files and are disappointed when they don't work. Anyway, thanks again — VERY much appreciated!
Not just for guitarists
Darren Brierton
This app is very well done indeed. I use it for isolating and transcribing drum parts. The idsolation tools are much better and easier to use than a traditional EQ. The sound quality when slowed down seems to me to be superior to other apps that do the same thing. And the UI is simply beautiful, what macOS apps should look like. The automatic beat detection is surprisingly accurate, I was really quite impressed. Once you manually set the time signature (meter) it works out where the bars (measures) are. You can nudge the downbeat backwards or forwards a beat if it’s been confused by a pickup bar. The only negative is that in the rare cases where the beat detection goes awry (for example due to an odd or mixed meter) there is as yet no way to correct this (whereas you can correct the automatic chord recognition), although when I asked the dvelopers about this they told me that it is something they plan to add. All in all I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Fantastic for transcribing and learning from recorded music
Prague Tourist
I've used Capo for about 4 years, and it has been an invaluable tool in my path of discovery for learning jazz guitar. There are other apps that allow you to select regions, loop, change the playback speed, or change the pitch, but Capo has a killer feature that I've found to be very helpful: the spectrogram. With it, I can transcribe a 3 minute guitar solo in about a half hour, working out all the notes played. With the spectrogram, it is easy to work out not only all single notes played, but also any double stops, triads, or chords that may be mixed in... you can literally see all the notes, and aurally confirm they are correct. I think it's great!

Decent tabbing aid but lacks basic features for guitarists
A Buckley
Capo takes a track and renders a spectrograph of the frequencies on to which you can "draw" notes, which are then rendered as tablature. It performs its basic function reasonably well, but it's been a good few years since any features have been added which directly improve the tabbing experience.1) Audio playback and the interface seem to have got worse. It stutters constantly on an M1 Mac Studio2) Capo by default assumes that multiple notes being played at once must be being played on the same string, leaving the user to sort through a stack of notes and assign each to a string. It's sensible to let the transcriber work out the position for themselves but the software could at least try to make an educated guess as to how simultaneous notes could be played.3) No support for any guitar techniques introduced since roughly 1920. No way to denote hammer ons/pull offs. No string bends. No slides. No way to notate harmonics whatsoever. If there's a way to set up an alternative tuning, I haven't found it, which is somewhat ironic for a program called "Capo".Capo is woth a look, not least since it has very little competition, but it's very basic. I bought it as a standalone app and it was fine for the price, but very little of the core functionality has been updated in a decade, certainly not enough to justify a subscription. Fix the audio engine and improve the tab notation beyond the absolute bare minimum and I might change my mind.
# New Features
## Lead Sheet Printing (macOS)
Capo can now generate professional, publication-quality lead sheets from your edited chords and sections—print them, export them as PDF, or share them with bandmates. Choose File > Print… from the main menu, then add your title and subheadings in print settings panel.
## Call & Response Mode
Loop regions can now alternate between playback (the call) and silence (the response), giving you a built-in gap to play what you just heard. Select a region, then press and hold the loop button to open the settings.
# Enhancements
- In the metronome settings, you can now mute the click track after the count-in is done.
- Count-in will now work when there is no active looping region. When the playhead isn't on the downbeat, count-in gives you fewer clicks to get you in on time. See the user guide for more details.
- The region is no longer deactivated when you click on note or chord entries. Now you can modify notes in the tabbing view while the loop continues to play—particularly useful with Call & Response.
- Custom tunings now appear in the chords song view as well—email support if you'd like help setting these up.
- The metronome icon in the toolbar now changes to include a little clock badge when count-in is enabled.
- You can now search the User Guide, and we unified its content for both platforms.
# Bug Fixes
- Exported MIDI files are now transposed to match your key slider settings.
- Fixed a timing gap between the last count-in click and the downbeat.
- The changes you make to note entries in the tabbing view are now reflected during playback.
- The blue "focus ring" no longer appears around the "What's New" button in the project window's title bar.
- The last string in the guitar chord boxes no longer draws a shade darker than the rest.
- The tap beats window will no longer get locked up if you presented it during playback.
- The last-set instrument (e.g., Ukulele, Banjo) is now restored correctly from user defaults in new projects.
