“David Bowie is” is an adaptation for iPhone of the blockbuster exhibition that originated in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum in 2013 and toured the world for five years to record-breaking attendance and international acclaim.
This augmented reality exhibition tells the story of Bowie’s life and career through costumes, videos, photography, drawings, storyboards, music scores, handwritten lyrics, letters, and diary entries. It displays over 400 items from the iconic exhibition in a sequence of 25 newly designed virtual exhibition rooms, with many never before seen items. No headsets required, all you need for the best experience is a pair of headphones.

The next best thing
… to being there. I was lucky enough to see the exhibition at the V&A in its last few days. This superb app allows you to “pick up” and inspect Bowie’s hand-written lyrics, watch video, interact with cards and much more. It has even been updated to include The Next Day and Blackstar on the studio album list. This is a wonderful app if you have a recent device and wireless headphones. If you enjoy Bowie’s work then don’t hesitate for a second and just click Buy :-)
Sound and Vision at its best
‘Bowie Is’ exhibition and the vast creativity and artistry that is Bowie to carry in your pocket? Hell yes! I was lucky to visit the show in 2013 and this app is the next very best thing. Slick interface and highly intuitive to use, an absolute joy to explore and immerse yourself in, I can’t rate it highly enough. Thank you to the creators for the vast amount of work which has gone in to producing this, the man is greatly missed and this is a fitting and incredible tribute for his fans to devour.
Excellent, but issues
Excellent content, unfortunately marred by some issues. 1st AR app bought, and very difficult, as a disabled person, to need to move the ipad around so much ... I'd thought there would also be some non-AR sections. If there could be options eg like the Leonardo app, that would be great ie book-form options included also, especially for the price.
I can't see how to open some documents, and Help doesn't work.
Huge internet disconnect message across the screen, which stays for ages, despite the app continuing to play; not able to see things properly.
