Wish I could put no stars

I don’t get why depop don’t encourage people to message the seller before buying to check if the item is still available, we are human and forget to delete unavailable items sometimes! I had deleted my depop app and I didn’t even receive an email that someone had bought something- I re downloaded today and someone had bought something last week! The item I put up has been up for months and I have chucked it out- if I had got a message or email as deleted my app saying “someone has requested to buy your item is this still available” I would have replied- now I have to go through the whole process of refunding this person and their out of pocket while I find out how to do it! - if I hadn’t of downloaded it I wouldn’t have known and she would have lost her money or reported my account. Very stupid fault!

May I just add it has nothing to do with notifications as I had DELETED THE APP I had no recollection of this person buying my item as I did not receive any email telling me that someone had requested to buy. Because depop lets you just buy an item instantly! But this was an old item which was on there for months. Depop should rethink and instead of an instant buy a request to buy which notifies the seller via email, app and text message that they are interested in the item if it is still available. This allows the seller to be in control and not have to keep giving our refunds!

Hey there! We have a certain time frame within which we deem a user to be 'inactive' and their items are taken off the app - in this case evidently the purchase was made before this period kicked in. As a matter of general etiquette we do encourage buyers to always try and speak with a seller before a transaction takes place to fully gauge the availability of the item and the seller more generally. We're sorry that you had to go through the experience of having to refund the buyer in this instance. Team Depop

Your bio

Why is it that at buyer has the ability to not write a review, which is akin to ‘no reference’ therefore appears unhappy, or even a bad one which isn’t true, and the seller has no ability to respond to that review for other potential buyers to see???The word count for your bio is so limited that sellers are forced to use up item spaces to put ones terms and conditions is as it won’t all fit in the bio letter count, and the more items you add to the page means it moves from near the top so doesn’t get read??? Not all buyers have integrity, and I’m sure neither do all sellers. But it’s frustrating when you receive a bad review despite already stating the postage price, and putting no refunds or returns, that sellers are put in a position to refund or risk a bad review, if the seller has found the same item cheaper, only not new, after their purchase of a new item from yourself. Pretending an item is faulty, when brand new. in order to buy the identical item after their purchase from you, enables the buyer to blackmail you into a refund, or write a bad review that you can’t directly respond to, for potential buyers to see. The buyer can also, when having received their purchase, either intentionally or accidentally, damage the item themselves, but pretend this is how it was sold, therefore not as described!!! All a little one sided me thinks ☹️

Still needs some improvement

I recently discovered Depop after using Ebay for years. Overall app is very basic with functions and options with what it allows you to do comparing to eBay - I made a purchase recently and item arrived not as described, I contacted seller but had no reply for good few days and to open a case you have to go trough PayPal which is great but then PayPal has to request it trough seller, I found it a bit to complicated comparing to eBay one being very straight forward ‘open case’ function. Also, why am I not able to add pictures when communicating with seller or buyer! It is crucial that I should be able to enclose pictures of item that arrived not as described or if I sold and posted item but for some reason it was running late I would need to be able to upload proof of postage. Also I find there are few glitches, like it takes couple of clicks for screen to update if I received a message or I recently sold an item, received the payment but it is till showing item available for sale on my page??? Maybe manual option “item sold” should be made available to seller or even option “make an offer” for item which people quit often do try bargain, which again is grate, but on Depop if I decide to reduce price o then have to go into settings and change the price where’s on eBay you can send offers and accept and decline or make counter-offer instantly.
