The best!
Only just realised when watching an iMovie video of friends band playing recorded onto my old iPhone 7 with iOS 15.7.9 (latest this old phone accepts) that when listening back on headphones that it was exceptionally high quality STEREO recording.
After years of using this phone didn’t realise it was this capable. Mainly because all iOS Audio recorders I had used / tried (quite a few) only recorded mono. So I went on a long hunt for how to record in stereo.
Many apps simply don’t, a few claim to … but don’t ( eg. only works on later model phones, and / or later versions of iOS than my phone can do. I was beginning to think the only way was to use phone’s camera ‘record video’ (when not needing video) then extract the HQ stereo audio from that.
Then finally, I found ‘Dolby go’. Fantastic! Great quality recording with very well thought out, and usable effects. These are all adjustable, within sensible ‘natural sounding’ parameters, can be applied and ‘previewed’ in real time, before saving, then easy exporting to all the ‘usual options’.
Very impressive, and it’s free. I feel we are being rewarded for all the little bits of money over many decades (in my case) that Dolby must have made from me in ‘licensed’ products incorporating Dolby technology that I’ve bought. Thanks Dolby!
Stunning results
This is a fantastic app. I've made several recordings including vocals, guitars, drums, and the clarity of each is very impressive. With the ability to tweak the sound afterwards with simple to use yet very professional sounding options, and the option to share recordings directly to Facebook etc, this app genuinely ticks every box. And the fact I'm blind and use the VoiceOver screen reader and its completely accessible is the cherry on the icing. Top marks and kudos to the team at Dolby for this little gem!
No option to adjust levels & Phone calls interrupt recordings
Love the simplicity and the UI of this app - it feels good to have a professional audio recorder that’s free in the palm of your hand. I pair this with 2 Rode Wireless Go mics and various adapters to record audio for podcasts. Though I received a phone call and it lost 30 minutes of my recording displaying an error. There’s no option to adjust the recording level either (something the Rode Reporter App has already). This would be my new go to app for HQ audio and would replace the Rode app. But without these two features I’m not sure it’ll become my staple app for recording.
