Description

Track your activities, know your work patterns, steer your job plan

Dr Diary is designed for BMA members who are consultants or SAS (staff, associate specialist and specialty) doctors in the UK, on the latest versions of their contracts.
It’s a work diary that enables you to track activities that are part of your job plan, on the go. It’s for doctors who want to understand their working patterns and take control of their professional development.
Use the app to accurately reflect the reality of your work.
View the reports to see what your workload looks like in terms of sessions or programmed activities (PAs) and how this compares to your job plan.
Identify patterns to help plan future work and demonstrate areas for negotiation at your next appraisal or job plan review meeting.

Key features include:
• Add activities to your diary while offline
• Personalise activities to fit the nature of your work, including DCC (Direct Clinical Care), SPA (Supporting Professional Activities), Academic Work and more
• Choose to use either 15 or 30-minute time slots
• Track your work for more than one employer
• Copy a whole day or week of activities to another date
• View summary reports on the app
• See more detailed reports and share these with your employer at https://doctordiary.bma.org.uk

What’s New

Version 7.2.0

In this release we have improved the user feedback journey by making the opt-in function, that allows users to be contacted by BMA support if they wish, more prominent within the “Help” section. We have also improved the experience of adding On-call periods to the diary, and have also created more frequent alert messages in the “Weekly comparison” section of reports, which tells a user when they have exceeded their job plan PA count in a given week.

Just a calendar

I am sorry but I do not find Dr Diary useful. I can do the same thing with my outlook calendar . What it would be a real game changer , would be if it could calculate the PAs for each activity so when swaps and extra activity occurs ( like during covid period ) with the click of a button to know how many PAs were worked in a month/ week. ( like the job planner Allocate does)

Developer Response ,

You will be able to view this in the Reports section of the app. More detailed reports, a comparison with your job plan and the option to share with your employer are available at https://doctordiary.bma.org.uk

Mr H Baker ,

Needs work

The way the application records data doesn’t allow for resident on call (one can manually enter it though). There is no option for whole day activities (you have to specify the hours) and no option for time off (rest) and no option for time in lieu. The feedback link is only for star rating but no actual venue to reach to the developers for feedback. Apart from the videos, there is no searchable Q&A or forum for members to share there experiences in relation to app usage. Also the way the sessions are calculated in Wales is not UpToDate. Thank you for your patience

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. The feedback form in the tool allows you to rate and send your comments to the product team - this is stored and reviewed by the team. If you haven’t already left your comments using the app, please contact drdiary@bma.org.uk and we can help you further.

Good but could be better

The upgrade is good and I have always liked the BMA diary, in this format and the old excel sheet. The new reports section on the app is a big improvement. It would be better though if the monthly report gave PAs per week rather than total PAs. Also, I thought I read that the diary would now allow 15minute activity blocks but I can’t seem to see this. Finally, shouldn’t annual leave count in you PAs?

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your review. Just to say you can change to 15-minute time slots in the 'Settings' section. There is also the 'Average week' report which gives you the PAs/week for the current month.
