Ecotricity Top-Up App 17+

No ApplePay

I’m curious why this app exists - it seems much more limited than the existing one and the UI feels much more rudimentary. The main detractor for me though is it does not support ApplePay. I will continue to use the old app

Our partner has a road map for improvements and Apple Pay is one of the future enhancements due to be added. As part of our efforts to improve the experience of our customers, we have begun work on replacing the current Ecotricity App that has been in place for several years. To maintain all the services that we offer and to speed up development of the new Ecotricity App we have released a temporary Ecotricity Top-up App specifically for Smart Meter Top-ups. We will launch the new Ecotricity App soon without top-up functionality so that we can get it to the rest of our customers quicker. For a period, pay as you go customers with a smart meter will need to use both apps – one for topping up and the other new app for managing their account. in time, we will move the top-up functionality into the new app allowing you to do everything in one place.

Worse than the old app

I don’t know why the last guy thought this was worth even 2 stars and they don’t use it? It’s so bad it doesn’t deserve any stars! UI is so basic, and has less functionality than the previous app but it’s evident in the name and the fact it doesn’t even show up in search results for “Ecotricity”. The app made me create a new account and when I went to pay it would not accept my card, and insisted I must use a bank card. I have used the old app quickly and with ease and it accepted Apple Pay which now I can’t do, and to make matters worse, the letter I received said the old app was closing down which means I must submit to this awful piece of malware. I don’t even know why I’m being penalised for being on a top up meter when I already had it and now to add to my misery of having to constantly top up I can’t even pay using my regular card that I have used for the last few years. Sort this out, you could try and innovate with a new app and add smart meter visuals or something not remove functions and send a pathetic letter saying you must download this amazing new app that is worse than the one that worked fine for the last few years. I’m not even on the energy price caps as Ecotricity is exempt from these rules due to being a “green energy supplier”

I have been with ecotricity for over 14 years, always had great service and love what they do, so for me it’s the only option!
