eduroam is a global service for the academic community, facilitating access to internet connectivity when roaming. Find out more at

This eduroam Companion app has been created by Jisc, the UK’s national research and education network provider, to assist eduroam’s international community of users in making best use of the service. It documents the location of eduroam venues worldwide, allowing users to locate their nearest access location.

Users can use the map screen to explore eduroam venues close to them or to plan network access for upcoming trips. The interface allows searching for a specific venue or listing all venues on the current map view. Further details for each venue can be displayed, and if desired the app will create a route to navigate you to a chosen venue.

Please note that this companion app displays the data gathered by the central eduroam service, so any queries or requests for inclusion should in the first instance go to them via the URL above. We’d be really grateful for any reviews or suggestions for the app itself, however.

Jisc is grateful for the assistance of Miro and colleagues in the Geant eduroam service management team in deploying core infrastructure to support this major update.

What’s New

Version 3.3.0

This update includes accessibility enhancements in line with WCAG 2.1.

Improvements include:

- Screen Reader Compatibility
Users can now use screen readers to navigate around all areas of the app interface, including the map showing participating venues.

- Site List
In addition to the visual map showing locations, where each pin can be clicked to show venue details, users can now also see the participating venues in a list that updates dynamically in line with what is showing on the map visual. The list can also be searched for full/partial text matches independently of the map function.

- Customisable Font & Button Size
Users can significantly increase font and button size without losing content or functionality. The exact rate of zoom that can be achieved without impacting usability will depend on the size of your mobile device.

Good but limited

Nice little app but the 'tag' function (which I guess was to allow users to identify locations not in the official list) doesn't work. I spent today connected to eduroam in one of the hospital buildings were our eduroam signal is present but failed to tag every time.
Other then nice it does what you'd expect and shows locations where you can connect.

A great start

Please make it a universal app so that it can be used on the iPad without pixel-doubling.
