Room for improvement

I love the new features, but I'm really looking forward to improved integration with Apple Health for displaying distance and pace, as well as the ability to enter personal details for more accurate burned calories tracking. Also, I've noticed that the heart rate only displays in the app when using my iPhone. This is still unavailable in the iPad app. Considering a competitor app has already achieved this, I believe it's feasible. Once this is included, I'll definitely give the app a 5-star rating.

Expected much better integration with a 1st party App

Using this for Apple rings, HealthKit etc is useless, more so in conjunction with the companion App on Apple Watch is totally pointless as it only gives time, no distance for RowErg or SkiErg, only gives distance for BikeErg so no benefit whatsoever using this over Apple stock workout App for SkiErg and RowErg and doing that means C2 doesn’t mess up all the steps, distance walked or ran and other HealthKit fields, it’s made a total mess of my data. Also find Apple’s stock workout way more accurate when it comes to calorie burning as at least that uses your exact weight and not a 175lb average. Expected a much better 1st party integration over Apple’s stock workout App. Very disappointing after investing a high cost to buy all their machines. Almost passable for just logging with the C2 logbook only although I find using a Flash Drive for this way more reliable as a lot of times this App crashes before saving to logbook so have to manually move from internal Erg memory to Flash Drive anyway to upload to logbook.

Almost There..

Following my last review some time ago, which was submitted not long before the GUI upgrade and more contemporary look and feel, I am happy to say that the app is almost 100% useable for me.
Being picky, I would say that it just lacks a couple of small additions;
1. The ability to save data such as stroke speed/distance per stroke, stroke force etc. These ARE available real time when rowing but then disappear once the results are saved (unless I’ve missed something?).
2. To build upon the recent addition of the real time ‘loop’ course. What would be great is the ability to have real-time racing, along a simulated flat course, much on the same basis as ‘Rowpro’, which I have used in the past, but which is now too unreliable and which Rowpro don’t seem keen on fixing (as there is a whole new product release pending apparently).

Otherwise, the new look is 300% improvement on the old version and the integration with my PM5 is always reliable and seamless.
Results are always promptly saved with equally quick and reliable hook up with the online Concept2 logbook.

All we need now is an improved PM monitor (larger, in colour and with improved graphics to get away from the 1990’s DOS look) would be a good start.
Sorted!

Very happy with the ErgData app

Connects to the Ergs in my local Gym the first time every time. The Apple Watch connectivity is excellent, as is the compatibility with Garmin Connect - I don't need to wear any Garmin devices to have the workout logged. HR data is taken from the Apple Watch, rest of the data is from the PM5/ErgData.

There are all the data screens I need whilst rowing and the data presented after I’ve finished a session is comprehensive. I've only had to authenticate once; it's remembered me ever since.

I'm sure there are improvements I could suggest if I thought about it for long enough, but as of right now, it does exactly what I want it to do, faultlessly!

Great amount of details, but issues with logging

I use this app to connect with spin bikes at a local studio. The app connects fine, and provides a lot of different bits of info about the ride. Unfortunately, the app lets itself down by failing to save the details of each ride. I would say the app correctly logs/saves ride details about half the time. The other half of the time the ride details aren't saved and are just lost. I would also say that while I like the idea behind the app its overall design and functionality is not very user friendly. It’s not always clear which button to press to perform a certain action. There should be a clear way of just riding and recording the details of the ride. Make it explicit, not implicit.

Extra data plus heart rate

Why oh why… does concept 2 still insist of taking an average of the last recorded heart rate for each segment. Why?! Why is each segment not an average of its section? When it’s uploaded into ErgData the average HR is correct but on the unit the heart rate average is wrong. It’s non sense

Why on earth does ErgData not log some of the very useful stats it gives you during your erg… Drive length - could give average per split Drive speed Force curve - could give an average curve I just don’t understand why not log it. It’s super useful for analysis later

Heading from Good to Great

Used to use a competitor app but now the Workout Of The Day feature is live I find myself using this app mostly, this week finding the Real Time loop has taken it up another level, much more engaging and I look forward to this type of feature being expanded.

Would be nice to be able to update the PM5 via the app rather than via a cable to a Mac/PC, maybe one day.

Connection seems reliable though I follow the same process as for the competitor app, connect HR to the PM5, then open the C2 app and let it connect to the PM5, no issues in a few hundred row sessions.

Dated interface but does the job

Updated 26 Jan 24

Like the various upgrades. WOD a neat addition. Live rowing could be so much better with not too many additional features. It is just too boring atm. Don’t suffer the connection issues that others report.

Interface looks a bit C64 (there, that ages me) but the app captures the data and syncs to Concept website well. Would be good to: - be able design sessions on the app - what about a selection of standard workouts? - set stroke rate targets - integrate music - what about a metronome for stroke rate consistency?

Good app — but don’t leave a USB drive in the PM5

Great whilst using, pairs well when using my Apple Watch for heart rate. I had an issue where I finished a workout and it logs a completely different one. Seemed to keep duplicating the last one rather than the one you just did. Discovered it was because I had left the USB flash drive in after a firmware update and was causing a workout syncing issue.

Getting better with every update

Excellent App just need to spend a little time exploring all the sub menus.I would say it is more suitable for the experienced C2 user as such a user manual would be very useful for beginners etc.

So far I have experienced no connection issues including HR monitor and workouts saved ok.

Plenty of options and modifications available so you can optimise to your requirements.
