Description

Falling Fruit is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. All proceeds from sales of the app help pay to keep our servers online. This app cost is itself a tax deductible donation, and we greatly appreciate your support in keeping the project online!

Our global map of edibles is not the first of its kind, but it aspires to be the world's most comprehensive. While our users contribute locations of their own, we comb the internet for pre-existing knowledge, seeking to unite the efforts of foragers, foresters, and freegans everywhere. The imported datasets range from small neighborhood foraging maps to vast professionally-compiled tree inventories. This so far amounts to 1,258 different types of edibles (most, but not all, plant species) distributed over 787,435 locations. Beyond the cultivated and commonplace to the exotic flavors of foreign plants and long-forgotten native plants, foraging in your neighborhood is a journey through time and across cultures.

Falling Fruit is not associated with Fallen Fruit. Fallen Fruit can be found at fallenfruit.org.

Has great potential but…

Unfortunately very buggy and doesn’t look like it’s being updated any more.
- GPS only finds my location if I tap on the location search bar first
- once GPS tracking mode is turned on, it repeatedly zooms back to my location even if I want to scroll around
- always defaults to Boulder, Colorado (I live in the UK and my home location on the website is set to a UK location)
- random in-app notifications steal focus away from drop down boxes so they become impossible to change
- the “List” view offers no way to show the marker on the map, so is essentially useless

could be a great app but waste of money as it is now

shame it’s not being updated as it’s a great little app to add pics, info and coordinates and you can choose whether the plant is edible and such other info. however terribly unresponsive, takes ages to launch the action after pressing a button. take a photo option takes at least a min to launch and no option to add photos after saving a location. there are free apps that’s limited but more responsive, waste of £4 sadly

Doesn’t work

I can even register 😞
