Description

Over five million people in England and Wales live and work in properties that are at risk of flooding from rivers or the sea. Are you one of them? Flood Alert enables you to quickly check the current situation both nationwide and in your local area.

Everyone in an 'at risk' area should be aware of flooding and keep an eye on the water levels and weather situation, even when on the go. You can do this by checking the flood forecasts and the river and sea levels on the Environment Agency or Natural Resources Wales websites, by listening to local news and weather forecasts or now by simply opening the Flood Alert application on your smartphone or tablet.

Using the live flood warning feeds provided by the Environment Agency, CH2M has developed Flood Alert to enable you to quickly, efficiently and conveniently monitor flooding in areas that are important and/or close to you. These data are updated every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Flood Alert allows you to monitor:

· live status of flood alerts that are relevant to the users current location (within 5km radius)

· live status of flood alerts for up to two user defined locations such as a home, office, or elderly relative’s house (within 5km radius)

· live flood alert information displayed by regions, counties (unitary authorities) or local authority areas

The application also provides practical guidance on how to be prepared and what to do when it floods, together with associated links to the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales websites. It also allows you to directly contact FloodLine, the Environment Agency’s free flood warning service in order to obtain further information.

Note that by installing this app you are agreeing to the associated Terms and Conditions.

Flood Alert is part of Flood Modeller Suite by CH2M. CH2M develops innovative products, provides industry leading customer service and delivers global consultancy solutions to address today’s and tomorrow’s flood risk management challenges. We achieve this by focussing our products on our users' needs, underpinned by proven performance and flexible, efficient and streamlined ways of working.

Dangerously broken

This app has stopped working for several weeks, however there is no mention of it no longer working. It would be easy to assume there are no flood alerts as this is now all it states. Anyone in a flood risk area who checks this app to be told there are no warnings is a serious risk. Fix it or at least display a warning that the app no longer works.

A Map would have been helpful

It is not just residents of houses likely to flood that need an app. This week I had to drive through 3 floods going to a meeting coming back by a ‘better route’ I had another 6 flooded roads to contend with, even after being diverted because the main road was impassable. So an app that added floods (not just road works or queues) to Apple Maps would be very useful. So people can plan routes, escape routes and avoid being stranded.

Discontinued app that should not be here

This app has not worked for more than a year. Why is it still here? Jacobs have taken over responsibility for it from CH2M. I contacted Jacobs a year ago and they said they were going to release a new app. They lied. All reflects really badly on Jacobs and on the Environment Agency. How can there be no app for something as important as EA flood data?
