A really good service

When spending quite a bit of money not only on your holiday but then on a guide, you want it to be right. I used this company for a couple of tours (& also another company that also advises about trips!) to get comparisons. Our guide was at the meeting point well before the advertised time, was welcoming, and very authentic - both guides were locals so injected there knowledge with further background info. There guides were like history lesson and all the topic was covered. Came away thinking I had definitely learnt about the subject. If there was one thing I would change - do your homework before you go! We were slightly rushed, but this was not the guide, it was due to the amount of people actually visiting the same place at the same time. The skip the queue is fab, but, when the place is rammed by other tourists it’s not easy to get the best views, and spend as little much time as you would have liked. An example would be, for me I fortunately booked a night time tour of the Colosseum and I am glad I did as day time it was heaving (although apparently once upon a time it could seat 50,000!).

Pompeii and Herculaneum tours

We are staying an hour or so away from both sites and have a hire car. We therefore decided to go to both sites in one day.
Booking was easy on line either through web browser or the App which is required for downloading the vouchers once booked.
Both tours were well organised. Everyone one supplied with a Bluetooth earpiece which connected to the guides microphone. Both guides were well informed and clearly very passionate about their subject. They spoke clearly and gave enough time for questions. We felt very well informed. Clearly in two hours only snapshots of each site can be covered, but if you have the time its possible to wander about on your own once the tour has finished. We saw other groups whose guides did not use a microphone and so can imagine that it may have been difficult to hear.
In summary, very well organised and informative tours.

Beware!

Be very careful with this app. Get your Guide is only the ‘platform’ for tour operators offering tickets to venues, so if something goes wrong they are not (necessarily) responsible. In my case, they were, and the tickets I’d booked to Park Güell in Barcelona, which are difficult to get and which are on a timed basis, didn’t ultimately get confirmed due to a system error. So I was left with my party with no tickets, on a trip lasting only 2 days which had been very carefully organised to make
maximum use of the time available. The place to pick up the tickets from was very unclear in their email, indeed it wasn’t clear that we had to pick up the tickets at, the email just said ‘meeting point’. Why don’t they just email something to download? When we did get it explained by the entry staff that we had to go to a particular address, the address given was the name of a road BUT no number for the building, so we had to ask at 2 more locations. And the email after booking said, ‘we’ll email confirmation within 48 hours’, which was very unhelpful since I’d only booked the venue the day before. Personally, I’ll be deleting this app, though others have clearly had good experiences with it. I wouldn’t trust it.
