Description

GitJournal is an open source note taking / journaling app built with privacy and data portability in mind. It stores all its notes in a standardised Markdown + YAML header format or plaintext. The notes are stored in a hosted Git Repo of your choice - GitHub / GitLab / Gitea / Gogs / Any Custom-provider.

Never need to import / export your notes, as you always have control of the data. Apps may come and go, but your notes will always be with you.

Git has been chosen as a backend as self-hosting a Git server is much simpler than almost any other software, additionally there are already many commercial providers of Git. So you can choose who you want to trust with your notes. We currently don't support encrypting the notes, but it's something we're actively working on.

Really nice app

Lightweight, nimble app that grants me access to my notes while I’m on the move without access to my laptop.

I use branches and pull requests to manage changes to notes, so the ability to pull changes from one branch and push changes to a branch other than master where I can clean them up before merging would be awesome. I’d go Pro and give a fifth star for that 🙏

App I’ve always dreamt of making

Yeah thanks dude… thanks for stealing my dream! On the other hand, awesome app! I don’t think I could have implemented it any better myself! Thanks for fixing the RSA issue and sorry for the initial bad review. This dev cares about the users!!

Hey. Could you please try again, I released a new version last week with a fix.

Buggy

I can write a note, then can’t escape from the editor and it doesn’t save anything. The ‘raw editor’ is just a blank page that does nothing. I resent having paid for this.
