Description

Welcome to Glassboxx: hassle-free eBook and audiobook access, all in one place.

Glassboxx cuts through all digital content ‘authentication’ issues, consolidating your eBook AND audiobook purchases made through affiliated stores, within an eminently user-friendly, secure environment.

No password required – simply log in with the email address used to buy the book and enter the verification code sent to your email – and your content awaits in the ‘My Books’ area of the app, with formats clearly labelled. With the content in the cloud, downloading requires an initial internet connection, but once downloaded, your books can be enjoyed to your heart’s content in the remotest, furthest-flung corners of the earth, where internet penetration is a mere pipe-dream…

THE AUDIO-PLAYER WILL:

• Auto-save your current position in the book – so that you can pick up right where you left off, even if listening on different devices
• Allow for skip forward/backward to recap where relevant
• Offer sleep timer option
• Play on lock-screen, enabling easy access to playback controls
• Play in background whilst browsing other apps
• Play immediately, and download in the background (provided internet access is available)

THE EREADER ALLOWS FOR:

• Page book-marking, opening the title at the right place when you pick up, even across multiple devices
• Font-size and font face changes, as well as dyslexic-friendly font
• Background colour changes
• Full text search

Welcome to the Glassboxx community!

Improving…

My first, one-star, review of this app, a year or so ago, described it as dreadful and unusable, and I stopped using it altogether. Now I have to say that it has improved significantly. It seems stable; it has not lost my books again; it can display in landscape. It feels like version 1.0 should have felt. One functionality gap is the ability to highlight a word or phrase and look it up. I suspect this is linked to the desire to prevent the copying of text, but all it means is that one has to screenshot/OCR text to paste it elsewhere; thereby making work for the user without achieving the app builder’s aim. The lightweight authentication process appears to work, and I like how that works (but wonder what happens if the company were to disappear - presumably my library would disappear too?) I haven’t yet tried the audiobook reader, so will not comment on that.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the feedback, Ben - it is much appreciated. We haven't yet got the ebook reader in landscape for you but hopefully the new version of the app has resolved the opening and whirling timer issue you described. Our Support Team are always available at glassboxxhelp@firstygroup.com to help with app issues.

Terrible UI

All around terrible UI. Highlighting, or any annotations in general is a pain to use. I tried using their browser interface and it was even worse: It would unsave all of my highlights, making all my effort an absolute waste. Sad to see that for an app that is quite needed (since this is how some ebook sellers want buyers to read their books), it is highly lacking in all the major areas that make it a good reading app. Adobe PDF reader and even Apple's Preview have a better reading UI than this.
