Probably the best meditation app out there

Don’t let the fact that this is free put you off, this app is probably the best out there. I am a mostly daily meditator. (Like many people I sometimes let my daily habit fall by the way side!). I have tried numerous meditation apps and this is definitely one of the best.

I previously tried Headspace (it looks nice but for me it was far too dumbed down), Waking Up (Excellent but pricey - Sam Harris is a phenomenal teacher) and Insight Timer (good but mostly for one off standalone sessions). Healthy Minds is my favourite of all these. It gives you a dose of science and a dose of practice in a way that is easy to follow, but not dumbed down. Dr Richard Davidson has been one of the leading researchers in the neuroscience of meditation for the last three decades so it is a great to learn from the very best minds in the field. Another bonus is that the app works on a donation model so you get to use the full app for no cost.

I love this app, and I highly recommend it. I use it almost daily and have seen real progress in my ability to “decenter” (i.e. notice that a negative thought is just a thought, and not a true representation of reality).

Amazing free meditation app

I never write reviews but I am so impressed with this app. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s somehow second-rate compared to paid /subscription apps - because the content is excellent. It’s adaptable, flexible and designed to help you fit meditation into your life and improve wellbeing. It’s beautifully structured and it’s easy to understand the science behind the practices - enough information (not dumbed down at all) without it being overwhelming. I’m only at the foundation level but I know I’m going to stick with this mental wellbeing programme. I’m definitely considering making a donation to support it continuing to being made available to all. I’m so glad I found this at this time in my life. Brilliant!

The best app to develop mindfulness skills

I’ve been practicing meditation through guided videos or apps for quite a few years and only recently discovered Healthy Minds. I have to say, I love it! The combination of small teaching bites based in science and practical applications in practice with the flexibility of lengths, and even speakers, really works for me. Added to that I love the Journey path that gives you a visual representation of your progress and the test you can take periodically to verify you are learning. I highly recommend it especially to beginners but even experienced practitioners. It’s simple effective and free!! I’m just about to donate to help make sure they continue the excellent work. Thank you!!
