HexLab
Hex programmer calculator
Only for Mac
Free
Mac
A native macOS programmer's calculator. HexLab evaluates C‑style integer and bitwise expressions under a fixed bit width and two's‑complement sign mode, then shows the result in every representation a low‑level programmer cares about — hex, decimal, binary, octal, byte order, IEEE‑754 float, and more — updating live as you type and edit bits.
Features:
- Expression evaluator — enter a full C‑style integer expression (operators, parentheses, mixed number bases) and evaluate it with = or Enter.
— Fixed‑width, two's‑complement semantics — pick 8, 16, 32, or 64 bits and Signed or Unsigned. Every intermediate value is masked to the active width, so results match real hardware (e.g. 8‑bit ~0 >> 4 == 0x0F). Changing the width or sign mode re‑evaluates the current expression instantly.
— Multiple result representations, live — the current value is always shown as:
* Hex (zero‑padded to the width)
* Unsigned decimal
* Signed decimal (two's‑complement, sign‑extended)
* Binary (grouped into nibbles)
— Binary / Bit inspector — the value is broken into per‑byte cards; click a byte to drill into its 8 bits as a Bit / Value / Weight grid, and double‑click any bit to toggle it. Edits flow back into the whole value and every other representation.
— Float inspector (IEEE‑754) — decode the value as a half (16‑bit), single (32‑bit), or double (64‑bit) float: sign / exponent / mantissa bit fields (each bit double‑click‑toggleable), the decoded value, classification (normal / subnormal / zero / infinity / NaN), biased and unbiased exponent, and raw field hex. A round‑trip box lets you type a decimal float (e.g. 3.14159) and load its exact bit pattern into the calculator.
— Other representations — octal, little‑endian and big‑endian byte order, fully bit‑reversed value, printable ASCII, and population count ("N bits set of W").
— One‑click copy — every representation row and result card copies its full value to the clipboard (long values are truncated for display but copied in full).
— Operator keypad — buttons for every operator and parentheses insert into the expression, so you can build expressions by mouse or keyboard.
— History — successfully evaluated expressions are saved (deduped, newest‑first, up to 50) and persist across launches. Toggle the history inspector from the toolbar and click an entry to reuse it.
— Persistent settings — bit width, sign mode, history, and panel visibility are remembered between launches.
