It’s been over a decade since the original Hipstamatic turned the iPhone into a vintage camera. The all-new Hipstamatic X adds even more old-school lenses, cameras, and film to the mix.
Easy to use - needs some tweaks but a promising start
Hipstamatic is the stand out camera app on my iPhone but the scale of films / filters etc was getting a bit out of hand. I spent far too long fiddling about looking for appropriate effects
The advantage with this app is that it has an easy to use auto mode, where the app selects an appropriate effect for a photo you take from the app. If you want a different effect, there is an edit mode where you can easily choose an alternative.
I’ve spent a few quid over the years on the original Hipstamatic app, so decided to splash out on the Lifetime membership special deal offer £24 that apparently guarantees future paks and stuff.
In the current version of the app, there doesn’t seem to be a facility of picking a photo from your library. Also you can’t use your Hipstamatic X Lifetime membership to unlock all the filters and effects on the original app. I contacted the support people who confirmed there would be updates on the feedback they’ve had since the HX app launched. And likely it would include the functionality to edit from the camera roll and they’d be looking at extending membership benefits to the original app.
Whilst not perfect, it’s a promising start and the support people do listen to feedback and work hard to give customers what they want. That’s what made the original app so popular.
So it’s a 4 star review for now (the output is fantastic) and likely to be 5 if they improve the functionality
It’s great to have a photo app back
I’m really enjoying using the new updated Hipstamatic camera club app. It’s motivating me to take at least a photo a day. My only gripe is it has a few bugs I can’t get passed, especially since the ios17.4 update it’s become very crashy, hopefully that’ll be resolved very soon.
