HughesDrive is a telematics App that monitors your driving. It records metrics such as how often you drive, how far you go, your acceleration, braking, and swerving. It uses this information to calculate a personalised driving score, which you can view on your secure in-App dashboard.
Please download the App for free after purchasing a HughesDrive Telematics Policy.
If your car doesn’t have Bluetooth, simply request a Beacon in the App and it will be sent to you in the post.
If you have a green driving score over a consecutive seven-day period from Monday midday, you will be eligible for a treat! Every Monday at midday an eGift will be available in the HughesDrive App.
To complete the on-boarding process please complete the following steps.
1. Download and install the HughesDrive App
2. Once the App has been successfully installed, please login using your email address you provided to us when activating the policy and the password that has been emailed to you. You will be prompted to amend your password on initial login.
3. Provide photographs of the insured vehicle as instructed by the HughesDrive App.
4. Provide photographs of your photo card driving licence and paper counterpart as instructed by the HughesDrive App.
5. Complete pairing of your HughesDrive App to the insured vehicle via Bluetooth. Follow the insured vehicles Bluetooth instructions.
6. Ensure the location services are enabled on your Smartphone.
This app will not function if you do not have a HughesDrive policy from Hughes Insurance

frustrating and unreliable
My experience with this company has unfortunately left me completely unsatisfied with the telematics app and insurance in general. With my previous insurance, which also had a black box, I never received any complaints about my driving and achieved a full year of no claims discount, however with my new policy with yourselves, the app seems to pick and chose when to actually work and stops recording my journeys halfway through them. I always ensure that my Bluetooth is turned on and that my phone is fully charged but the app still functions temperamentally. On most days I receive perfect scores for my driving and other days I will receive minus scores that drastically decrease my weekly score, even when I have not changed my driving technique in the slightest, and have even been making a conscious effort to drive extra carefully. I also feel that the terms of the policy were not specifically laid out before I agreed into it for example receiving minus scores for “usage” when I have no idea what that means. I feel like I have been misled and quite frankly I find the app extremely frustrating and actually puts me off driving.
Not the worst
There are so many 1 star reviews on here that i was really worried, because i had already bought the insurance without having read the reviews. I think you do need a little patience with the app but the customer services are very helpful and they appreciate it if you contact them about the issue as soon as it arises.
You are supposed to keep location services on at all times but i’ve had to turn mine off because it would record when i’m not in the car driving - when the phone is in my pocket, when i’m in other people’s cars and even on the TRAIN!! Resulting in me getting minus points for speed and usage, when i’m not even driving. So it has brought my score down and out of the green. It is true that often it records the journey halfway through. They really need to sort these aspects out because frankly it is unfair!
The app isn’t as bad as i thought it would be but you definitely do have to be careful and not keep location services on all of the time because of it’s inaccurate tracking, so i guess if you can’t be bothered with having to open the app every time you get in and out of the car and not just be able to set off then it’s not for you, it definitely does require patience...
This app is an absolute disgrace. I signed up with Hughes insurance after being giving a better quote. The man on the phone told me that I would have to sign up to this app and it was quick and easy and had to be done within 24hrs, although he didn’t inform me that I had to also take pictures of my car for the app. After I paid my insurance I left the house as I had my day off planned, I wasn’t getting back into the house until 10:30pm and at that stage I started to set up this ‘easy’ app. I obviously couldn’t take pictures of my car in the dark so I decided to leave it to the morning before heading to work. When I tried to log into my app the next morning it wouldn’t let me in and kept telling me I had the ‘wrong credentials’ so I couldn’t finish setting my app up and as a result to this Hughes has decided to cancel my insurance without even letting me explain. Would not recommend this app or these brokers!!
