Get real film look while shooting digital.
At RNI we always wanted to transfer the true character of analogue film to digital medium. So we did by digitising our library of analog slides and negatives, building their profiles and packaging those profiles into a lightweight and easy to use mobile app.
RNI Films is a great mobile companion for those who appreciate the beauty of analogue photography. And this little app enables creators to bring the artistic flair of film into their mobile workflow.
Many professional photographers find our film profiles to be more sophisticated and true to real film than rivals. That's because we work really hard to recreate every subtle aspect of real film, with great attention to general accuracy, colour separation, skin tones and grain texture.
RNI's film-simulating expertise is proven by time and appreciated by photographers from all over the globe. Our desktop and mobile solutions have been praised in a number of independent online reviews, so don't hesitate to search for RNI Films online to find out more about our products, philosophy and approach.
REAL FILM FILTERS
The RNI Films' filters are born from real film stocks and split into categories that include negative, slide, instant, black & white and vintage. The app comes with a generous introductory package of free film filters. Also additional filter packages can be added via in-app purchase.
REAL FILM GRAIN
Authentic film grain powered by our custom engine—accurately simulating grain structure, colour, and resolution behaviour.
REAL FILM BLOOM & HALATION
Recreate the optical effects of real film. Bloom adds a soft glow to highlights, while halation produces a warm, subtle halo around bright areas. Both are modelled to behave naturally, just like in real film photography.
ADJUSTMENT TOOLS
Use RNI image adjustment tools to make sure your images perfectly meet your creative vision. You can crop and rotate, alter the brightness, contrast, and colour, enhance shadows and highlights, add vignette and real film grain, and much more.
RAW EDITOR
RNI Films can open and edit RAW files from your mobile or third-party camera*. Some minor image artefacts may be seen while editing RAW in the app's viewport which uses draft mode. Those artefacts won't be there on export. Generally, the quality of the output of this little app is comparable with professional desktop software.
* Your third-party camera RAW format needs to be supported by iOS. Please refer to your iOS version documentation for more details.
VIDEO GRADING (beta)
RNI Films can colour-grade your videos. All its film filters and many editing tools now support video. More video-focused tools and features will be added later. At the moment video grading is in beta. So if you spot any bugs or issues—please let us know at support@reallyniceimages.com

Been using this app for a couple of years and feel compelled to write a positive review. Like many other users I was annoyed when the developers tried to introduce a subscription model via means of having to upgrade to disable the new time stamp feature enforced via a general app update. Rather than shooting off the hip writing a bad review there and then, I sat back to gauge other end users reception. Was pleasantly surprised the developers reacted to negative feedback and omitted the option of the time stamp in their pro model 2 days later. Top marks to RNI for listening and putting users of their app first. On another positive note the update lets a user fully preview film simulation packs they may not of purchased previously. Up until now I had only purchased the negative film pack, now with been able to fully review all packs I will be upgrading to pro.All round this app is near perfect. I say near perfect as the one feature I feel is missing is the ability to zoom in on a photo which would be useful tool to preview the amount of grain applied before exporting. Other than this, top marks to RNI
Developer Response
Thank you so much for this review and your detailed feedback! The pinch-to-zoom is a very much requested feature indeed. In the past few months we've been entirely focussed on the ability to save user edits and sync them across devices, but we will certainly look at how to implement pinch-to-zoom in the future, after dealing with a few remaining bugs and stabilising the current version of the app.
Making something out of nothing

I’ve went through various editing software titles, trying to find something quick and effective that yes; may have “Pro” versions or slightly limited parts. Not to get in the way of what you want but that happy medium that you know they “in the case of RNI” want you to enjoy using it and would hope you might buy but it’s not so limited, that you get peed off with it and uninstall. That’s where RNI comes in. I did have Adobe Photoshop Express, and like most people have an account through a product I bought that their software was bundled with; having used the app! it’s so Rubbish, full of generative Ai garbage, “o just generate an image from a promt” you have 10’ credits, how about no! I want to edit a Photo! “I’ve” taken. Which I did in RNI converting some old Jpg, from a set of 4 that were taken with a Panasonic-FZ10 that had too much noise present but converted with some edits and a couple of film looks and they didn’t look half bad, or half good either but that’s the photographer though.
Nearly Perfect

There are many recipes online for my Fuji X-E3 simulating old film stock but there is a limitation of 5 custom settings. This app offers nearly all of the film I used to use and love apart from the fast Kodak Ektachrome EES. Such a beautiful film when pushed (with gorgeous grain). There is a quote (below) from Ellen from Unwerth as a way of begging you to create a Kodak Ektachrome EES simulation. I’d pay good money just for that one simulation. Another gorgeous film unfortunately missing is the Agfa Dia Direct, a monochrome slide film that gave beautiful results. Anyway, the app is great and I will keep my fingers crossed for those two films. "In the beginning of my career, I was using a Kodak slide film called EES, which was very difficult to expose, you couldn't trust it that much, but it became more beautiful the more you pushed it. Then they just stopped making it. It's hard for me to find film which has the same beauty. I've tried so many films & still not found one that's as beautiful."Ellen von Unwerth.

I shoot film when my pocket feels deep enough to afford not only the stock but also the time to develop, scan and edit the photos. However I’m slowly moving away to more cheaper alternatives including using my phone. RNI Film to the rescue - especially being able to simulate stocks that no longer exist and still get the look. Only complaint is maybe me being either am idiot or it is a genuinely missing feature: view and edit your photos in “landscape” mode, as in phone held sideways - allows for better visibility and control.
