BeatMirror uses your device's built-in microphone to detect musical tempo in real-time. Just tap start and a graph of your tempo will appear right away, allowing you to scroll through your tempo history and see trends. Perfect for musicians looking to build their internal rhythm, or to see the tempo of their favorite songs in real-time!
TESTIMONIALS:
"BeatMirror truly is simplicity at its finest. That quality is missing from most apps who try to cram too many features into one app thus making it difficult to use and many times buggy. We feel like your app is VERY good. We're reviewing BeatMirror and it will be a part of the next show. It's got nothing but thumbs up!" - Phil Smith of "Drummer's Weekly Groovecast" (podcast)
"When I first heard about BeatMirror, I was kind of skeptical but after trying it out for weeks now and playing with it everyday, I'm mindblown. Alex really wanted to put a focus on helping drummers improve their internal clock and I really think he's done so." - Richard Ducat of "Drummers I Like" (podcast)
"Overall, this app is so quick and simple to use, there's not really an excuse as to why you wouldn't use it during practice sessions, just to see how you’re improving. If you're a drummer, having an app on your phone or tablet like BeatMirror just makes sense." - Laura Barnes of MI-PRO (mi-pro.co.uk)

TIPS FOR BEST PERFORMANCE:
- Avoid handling your device during tempo measurement.
- Be mindful of competing noise near the device's microphone (e.g., conversation, typing).
NOTES ON USAGE:
- Recorded music. To detect the tempo of recorded music using BeatMirror, follow these steps:
1) Play a song from your favorite music player app using the device speaker (i.e., unplug your headphones). Or, play the song from a different device altogether.
2) Open BeatMirror and start tempo detection, adjusting the tempo range if needed.
3) The song's precise tempo will then be displayed in real-time.

I have been looking for a BPM counter that doesn’t require you to tap along for ages. This is great and accurate as well. I have actually tested it using professional music software... and it has not been wrong once yet..
Fantastic drumming tool

This app is a game changer wish I’d had it years ago, I can’t recommend it enough to any drummers, my band mates love it too. Thx for creating it 👍
Not as useful as expected
JonnieFP
Considering this is a paid for app, rather than free to evaluate etc, this is disappointing. Basically it doesn’t work or at least it isn’t precise enough to measure rapid beats. Even a fairly simple case of physically tapping the microphone to detect a tempo and then doubling this rate results in total confusion in the app - even reporting a slower tempo. I appreciate the effort but it needs more work before charging people for it.

UPDATE (Apr. 16, '25): Hi Jonnie, my guess is that the original issue here had to do with setting the target tempo, so you might be interested that the newest update lets you detect tempo without setting any target at all! Or, if you have a specific tempo in mind, then the original Target mode is perfect. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out anytime, -Alex | ORIGINAL REPLY: Hey Jonnie, have you checked to make sure the target tempo is set? That could be the issue here. You can tap the (i) button in the top-right of the app to learn more, check out a guide and demo at tenkettles.com/how-to-use-beat-mirror/, or get in touch anytime through the app or tenkettles.com/contact. Happy to help you get started, -Alex
Does not work with headphones

The app doesn’t work without headphones, which makes it useless for those who wants to try it out while playing along to some songs

UPDATE (Apr. 16, '25): Hey, just wanted to follow-up about the headphone support. The newest update offers a new detection mode (no target tempo needed), but it also supports headphone audio from other apps during tempo detection. Hopefully you find this useful, and please get in touch anytime if you have any questions/feedback (just tap the envelope icon in BeatMirror or go to tenkettles.com/contact). Always happy to help, -Alex | ORIGINAL REPLY: Hey, thanks for the review. Yes, for best performance you'll want to unplug any headphones so that the device mic is used, as described in the App Store description. That said, we may be adding simultaneous headphone support in future. If you want to get in touch at alex[at]tenkettles[dot]com, I'd be happy to follow up about any updates on this. Have a great week, -Alex
We've got a big update for you today. It's been months in the making, and today we are very happy to announce BeatMirror's brand new Range mode!
It's the same BeatMirror you know and love, but now you have the option to set a nice big tempo range (instead of a target tempo) and start detecting tempo right away. The new Range mode also has a special triplet option for high accuracy in triplet-time. (You'll get a mini-walkthrough when you update the app.) Finally, we've added the ability to listen to whatever you like in your headphones during tempo detection (music from other apps, metronomes, etc.).
I hope you like the new update. And as always, I'd love to hear any feedback you have. Just tap the envelope icon in BeatMirror to get in touch and I'll get back to you ASAP. -Alex
