Excellent kitchen assistant

I’d second all of Zeph43’s comments. This app has completely accommodated our myriad favourtite recipes, previously scattered all over the bookshelves - as well as in a big, blue folder full of all sorts of bits of paper. The app works really well at capturing recipes (with the pics) from all sorts of web sites. It’s also pretty easy to pull in recipes from printed sheets, although you have to do the scanning and OCR (image-to-text) yourself. It would be a great idea to have that facility built in. Like Zeph43, we bought both the Mac and IOS versions and the syncing between them works perfectly. We, too, run it on an old iPad in the kitchen, mostly adding and updating via either our desktop machines or a more modern iPad. The ability to look up any recipe on an iPhone while out shopping is a real boon. The shopping list facility is simple and effective, too.Top bonuses for us are: The ability to share recipes with our grown-up children, who were always asking us for copies of their favourites - now we just iMessage or email them the appropriate item link from our Recipe Keeper on-line; The ability to modify recipes, as experience (or happenstance) offers us improvements; The ability to quickly and easily grab an interesting recipe as and when we stumble across one. We’ve tried a number of other recipe apps, but this one suits us down to the ground. We’ve been using it for almost a year, during which there have been a number of upgrades, bringing real improvements. All in all, we’re really impressed and if you’re looking for a serious but friendly kitchen assistant, too, then this one comes highly recommended.
Really useful App

For ages we have had recipes spread over books, sheets etc, but REcipe Keeper has enabled us to combine everything together. We use it primarily on an old iPad, but we have copies on the MAC and other ipads and phones which means we always have our recipes when we are away. I like the way you can scale recipes. Have not had anytrouble synching across multiple devices. The shopping list option makes sure we don’t forget to check on items needed that we might assume we have. Overall it works well althopugh there are some improvements that could be made; I’d like to be able to define the start of the week for menu planning, and also when menu planning to be able to call up all the dinners or breakfasts so I can select which one I want rather than having to go back to the lists and decide, for example vegtarian dinners, would list them all. It sort of does it at the moment but not well. The mac version screen needs tidying up as you need to have full width to be able to add a photo. Some niggles but overall it’s a really useful App and well worth spending the two fees for the MAC and protable device versions to get the synching working.
Best app ever!

I never write reviews but this app is so good I have too! Before finding this app I had hundreds of bookmarks saved to my homescreen with recipes I wanted to try and then never tried them as it was too much work to try and find what I wanted. I have bought the iphone and the Macbook versions of the app and they sync perfectly. I love that I can categorise all my recipes and find what I want in seconds. Then I just add them to my meal plan, create my shopping list and off I go. Love that it provides the link to the original recipe as well. I emailed the app developer as well (I was initially confused as to why I had to buy it again on my macbook when I had it on my phone ) and they were really helpful and got back to me quickly. Its the ipad and iphone you can use the same app on but have to buy a different one for the mac, but absolutely worth it in my opinion!
A very useful app - worth the cost

I’ve been using Recipe Keeper for 6 months or so now, having used another app for a decade or so. I switched mainly because I loved the ability to import a recipe by importing a photo of the text. That has worked really well and saved me so much time. I was also able to import all the recipes from my previous app. Overall, I’ve found Recipe Keeper as easy to use as my previous app and I’ve really enjoyed it. The search function is better as it looks for the word in the ingredients as well as the recipe name. There are some elements that are less flexible or don’t work quite as well. The main one is the approach to aggregating ingredients in the shopping list, and the order in which they appear. Depending on how your recipes are written, you might have 2 or 3 entries for the same ingredient expressed in slightly different ways. In which case, they will be listed separately in the order of the amount required. So you might have tomatoes at the start, in the middle and at the end of the list of fresh produce - a bit of a nuisance you’ll have to work with if you shop for a number of recipes at once and you have a long list to work through. The REALLY good thing is, when I’ve had any questions about how to use the app or suggestions about how to improve it, I cannot fault the prompt and considered responses received. I’m happy to recommend this app to anyone who wants to build up a collection of recipes from different sources and keep them organised electronically.
