I've been using this app for several months now, and although I was initially hesitant due to some reviews about the subscription or unreliable tutors, but I actually really like it now. It took a few tries, but I eventually found a great tutor. It’s really about finding the right person for you. The subscription works well, just make sure you read the terms carefully because I think some people don’t. For example, some unused lessons can carry over to the next month. If you can’t use them all, you can book a lesson for a future month and then reschedule it later. You can also add lessons to your monthly subscription, so I haven’t had any issues with that or switching between tutors.A significant downside, however, is the functionality of the chat and document sharing features—there are constant issues with them. I would love to see improvements, especially when the tutor shares their screen. The problem lies with the app, not the tutor. For instance, when they play a recording that you need to listen to, this feature is very poorly designed. The documents often glitch, and there’s a huge issue with the audio track—it's impossible to fast forward, making it very inconvenient to work with.Overall, I’d like to see more improvements and new features. But despite these issues, I will continue using the app and hope it gets better over time.

I’m quite annoyed with my tutor who decided she wanted to stop teaching classes suddenly despite me having booked 15 hours worth of classes with her (approx £184). She repeatedly cancelled classes last minute at times not informing me in advance that she can’t do a class or not communicating with me at all only leaving me hanging. This meant I accumulated a lot of hours since she would cancel the class on the platform. Upon raising this with the preply team requesting a refund one team member Serly first confirmed she can refund me money for 8 hours but then she later tells me she can’t because it’s been more than 28 days since I last paid for my subscription. She should have checked this before promising a refund as that’s poor customer service skills and disheartening once being promised something. The reason it had been so long since I last paid for my subscription was due to my tutor cancelling classes. I feel very disappointed with the tutor and this platform I was offered no compensation or good will gesture despite the inconvenience caused by both! Not really wanting to take further lessons I’m left with no choice but to use up those 15 hours with another tutor having to start from scratch with a new person seems like a waste of time and money.

I enjoy this app providing tutors with variety of languages. However, be aware, the reviews that you see on the tutors can be selective by the tutors, meaning if the tutor thinks that you will not leave them a good review, they can block you which consequently it will not allow you to leave a review for the tutor. I wanted to leave a review for a French tutor, Carol C. Simply because she is not a fit tutor for a complete beginner, but she is friendly. I wanted to make other learners be aware of it so they don’t waste their money and time. But I wasn’t able to post my review. So I contacted the support and was told that the tutor can block the learner which it will not allow the learner to post any negative reviews. I am very disappointed in this functionality of the app. Learners should have the right to post honest reviews to help other learners. I hope the app will make some changes on this issue.
