Im in Japan right now, since the 2nd of October. Before that I didn’t had a clue which eSIM provider choose from. After several hours scrolling, reading pro and cons I decided to go for Ubigi. It’s so freaking fast, as it use the SoftBank network. Also in public transport and underground, the network is still working in optimal condition and the best part is. That the data goes very slow, even if I used it the whole day for Google maps etc it literally toke 1GB of data. The price is also decent as I paid £26 pound for 25gb of data for a duration of 30 days….

Annual Data Plan Update

I recently reviewed this poor app. I purchased the annual data package as the monthly package always seem to run out just before the renewal and the cost to top up is the exact same amount as the monthly subscription so therefore you would pay twice. Also this app fails to give you a low data warning message. So I bit the bullet and brought the annual package. So that should have been the end of my issue…or so one would have thought. We now have the issue of the app closing down mid drive or the WiFi failing to connect to my phone. This has happened three times this week. Two out of the three times I was on a long distance drives in on an unfamiliar route. One was on the motorway. It is very distracting trying to regain your Waze at 70mph on the motorway and not to also say dangerous. This app is not fit for purpose. The service is shocking. But like a water company I am unable to choose a different provider. Considering I have unlimited data on my mobile phone, I do question why I would even need WiFi for my car. I missed the days where Bluetooth was enough and we didn’t need to pay these vultures for their sub standard products and services. In short avoid if you can. But if you are stuck with them like me. Then expect poor quality service.

Will happily take your money and provide no usable service

Some genius at this company decided that rather than providing a new eSIM each time you buy a package, you must instead keep the Ubigi eSIM on your device permanently and reactivate it each time you purchase a data plan. This sounds good on paper but is terrible in practice - for example, if you buy a new phone, you must remove the eSIM from the old device or it will be impossible to install on your new device. Not great when you’re buying a data plan on the way to the airport as many people do - and then, $40 poorer with nothing to show for it, you find out that there are ZERO customer service options in the app, which directs you instead to a website that… doesn’t work in mobile Safari. Horrible to the point of being a borderline scam; zero thought or care put into the customer experience or planning for common use cases. Avoid.

Great service and only £58 a year for 3Gb of data a month

After our RR turned three years old we lost all the services included for free for the first three years.We renewed both RR services but did t notice we didn’t have WiFi until a month later.After a message to Ubigi We found out the package had expired. Turned out JLR main dealers register the sims to their sales manager - so sim not in our name.No worries we dealt with Ramzi at Ubigi who sorted it all out.He removed the dealers details after we provided him with the sim number.Then we setup our own account and went for the £58 per year for 3GB’s of data a month.Don’t know why people moan about costs because we couldn’t find a vehicle data sim for the same amount of money and data - and didn’t want to pay monthly.So really happy with the £58 annual package.With also doesn’t auto renew so no getting caught out.
